Side population (SP) cells are an enriched population of stem, and the existence of SP cells has been reported in human cancer cell lines. In this study, we performed an SP analysis using 11 human cancer cell lines and confirmed the presence of SP cells in an embryonic carcinoma cell line, NEC8. NEC8 SP cells showed characteristics of cancer stem cells, such as high growth rate, chemoresistance and high invasiveness. To further characterize the NEC8 SP cells, we used DNA microarrays. Among 38,500 genes, we identified 12 genes that were over-expressed in SP cells and 1 gene that was over-expres

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an aggressive tumor that originates from the epithelial cells of the bile duct and has the ability to metastasize to the liver or lymph nodes at an early stage. CCA metastasis represents a complex, multi-stage cascade process. Among these stages, the acquisition of invasiveness by CCA cells is a critical prerequisite for metastatic progression. Elucidating the molecular mechanisms driving CCA cell invasiveness is critical for advancing our knowledge in this field. Cellulite treatments vary in their mechanisms, invasiveness, and durability of outcomes. Non-invasive options, such as topical agents and oral supplements, provide moderate benefits but require prolonged use. Massage and energy-based therapies offer better cosmetic improvements but often require multiple sessions with results that may not be long-lasting. Invasive treatments, like subcision and injectable options, directly address structural issues underlying cellulite. Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive form of glioma in adults that owes its worse characteristics, like recurrence and resistance to therapy, mainly to GBM stem-like cells (GSCs). In vitro studies employ GSCs to generate self-renewing cell lines that can mimic the original tumor. We performed analyses on our collection of patient-derived GSC lines to study long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and micro RNAs (miRNAs), important oncogenic drivers and tumor suppressors in many tumors. Our work revealed that the microRNA miR-370-3p is significantly down-regulated in GSCs compared to a normal control and,

Abstract Non-native plants rarely escape damage by herbivores. Instead, upon arrival in a new region, they begin to acquire new enemies, replacing those they have lost during their migration. These herbivores can include both natives to the new region and species that have themselves been accidentally or deliberately introduced from elsewhere, potentially including examples originating from the invader's original range. Shifts of new enemies from other hosts can occur over a range of timescales, depending in part on whether evolutionary change is required, but are likely to be faster for plant
