Abstract This study aims to answer three questions: (1) whether there are differences in the frequency of use of connectives between translated and non-translated Catalan literary texts; (2) whether these differences (if they exist) are sensitive to the type of semantic relation conveyed; and (3) to what extent they are due to explicitation or other factors. Quantitative analysis reveals that there is no significant difference in the overall frequency of occurrence of connectives in translations and non-translations, but the behaviour of connectives in translations is sensitive to the type of

Abstract:
AbstractAn important part of scientific communication nowadays is to communicate backgrounds and results of research to the interested public and to other researchers, following the general principle of ‘open science’. The part of such scientific communication oriented towards the general public is often interchangeably called, for instance, popularisation, democratisation or dissemination, to mention some of the frequent denominations. In this conceptual chapter, a continuum of categories is proposed for this type of scientific communication intended to insert some relevant differentiations. Following a knowledge communication approach with a focus on knowledge asymmetries between senders and receivers, the proposed principle is that of level of participatory ambition, that is, to what extent the researcher wants to construct the knowledge asymmetry as one allowing the non-expert to participate in the knowledge generation or not. The four-stage continuum reaches from infotainment over dissemination and popularisation to citizen science as the knowledge communication type with the highest degree of participatory ambition. The continuum is intended to be used as a basis for linguistic studies of the ways the different level of participatory ambition is affecting text formulation.

AbstractHealth Communication refers to “any type of human communication whose content is concerned with health” while strategic communication can be defined as “the purposeful, normative use of communication functions and discourse processes by organizations to accomplish their missions, visions, and core values”. The main characteristic of strategic communication is the communicator: an organization (in the broadest understanding) operating in the fields of management, marketing, public relations, technical communication, political communication, and information/social marketing campaigns. Strategic health communication can entail for example health campaigns and public service announcements (PSAs), public relations by health organizations and pharmaceutical companies, health policies and lobbying for health issues as well as advertisements of prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Abstract:
AbstractMultiparty Session Types (MPST) are a typing discipline for communication-centric systems, guaranteeing communication safety, deadlock freedom and protocol compliance. Several works have emerged which model failures and introduce fault-tolerance techniques. However, such works often make assumptions on the underlying network, e.g., assuming TCP-based communication where messages are guaranteed to be delivered; or adopting centralised reliable nodes and ad-hoc notions of reliability; or only addressing a single kind of failure, such as node crashes. In this work, we develop MAG$$\pi $$ π —a Multiparty, Asynchronous and Generalised $$\pi $$ π -calculus, which is the first language and type system to accommodate in unison: (i) the widest range of non-Byzantine faults, including message loss, delays and reordering; crash and link failures; and network partitioning; (ii) a novel and most general notion of reliability, taking into account the viewpoint of each participant in the protocol; (iii) a spectrum of network assumptions from the lowest UDP-based network programming to the TCP-based application level. We prove subject reduction and session fidelity; process properties (deadlock freedom, termination, etc.); failure-handling safety and reliability adherence.

Abstract:
AbstractHealth information systems can be described at three layers: The domain layer describing entity types and functions, the logical tool layer describing application components, and the physical tool layer. Data can be classified into personal and non-personal data and into standardized and non-standardized data. The architectures of an information system can be characterized by the number of databases, the number of application systems, the number of application software products and vendors, and the communication pattern.Technical interoperability describes the ability of application systems to send or receive data. Syntactic interoperability comprises the ability to use predefined message structures. Semantic interoperability means the ability to exchange and process meaningful messages. Process interoperability addresses whether application systems can cooperate. Interoperability standards support one or more aspects of interoperability.Integrating application systems leads to integrated health information systems. Data integration is achieved when data that have been recorded once in one application system are made available in other application systems. Semantic integration is achieved when application systems actually use the same system of concepts. User interface integration is guaranteed when different application systems organize their user interfaces in a unified way. Context integration is achieved when context is preserved when switching application systems. Feature integration is achieved when software features are implemented only once. Process integration is guaranteed when business processes are supported by cooperating application systems.Several integration technologies such as transaction management, communication servers, and open platforms support integrity and integration in heterogeneous health information systems.

Abstract:
AbstractMany type systems include infinite types. In session type systems, infinite types are important because they specify communication protocols that are unbounded in time. Usually infinite session types are introduced as simple finite-state expressions "Equation missing" or by non-parametric equational definitions "Equation missing". Alternatively, some systems of label- or value-dependent session types go beyond simple recursive types. However, leaving dependent types aside, there is a much richer world of infinite session types, ranging through various forms of parametric equational definitions, to arbitrary infinite types in a coinductively defined space. We study infinite session types across a spectrum of shades of grey on the way to the bright light of general infinite types. We identify four points on the spectrum, characterised by different styles of equational definitions, and show that they form a strict hierarchy by establishing bidirectional correspondences with classes of automata: finite-state, 1-counter, pushdown and 2-counter. This allows us to establish decidability and undecidability results for type formation, type equivalence and duality in each class of types. We also consider previous work on context-free session types (and extend it to higher-order) and nested session types, and locate them on our spectrum of infinite types.

The results show that throughout this period, the Swedish DOC occurs with verbs of transfer (e.g. ge ‘give’), future transfer (erbjuda ‘offer’), dispossession (beröva ‘deprive’), hindrance (neka ‘deny’), communication (säga ‘say’), causation (förorsaka ‘cause’), creation and obtaining (laga ‘cook’, skaffa ‘obtain’) as well as verbs of attitude (avundas ‘envy’). Verbs of benefaction and malefaction (öppna ‘open’, spärra ‘block’) are found in the 19th‑century data, but do not occur in the DOC in present-day Swedish anymore. Over time, verbs of transfer have come to constitute the majority of the instances of the DOC, while most other semantic categories have undergone a decrease in token frequency, relative to the construction as a whole. These findings suggest that since the beginning of the 19th century, the Swedish DOC has undergone a process of semantic specialization, similar to the development of the corresponding constructions in English (Colleman and De Clerck 2011; Zehentner 2018) and Dutch (Colleman 2011). The study also reveals a decline in text frequency and overall type frequency of the DOC as a whole, indicating that the construction has become less productive over the last two centuries.

AbstractThe relevance of emoji in social media marketing has attracted tremendous interest from academics and marketing professionals alike ever since emoji became a fixed component in user-to-user and business-to-user communication on online platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Using a quantitative research approach in the form of a self-administered online survey in an experimental setting, the purpose of this study is to investigate what type of emoji positively impacts consumer behaviour, purchase intention, and user interaction in tourism-related Instagram posts. This research is novel in that it bridges the usage of emoji in the context of social media and tourism. The findings support tourism managers in the practical use of emoji for social media marketing campaigns on Instagram and show that (positive) face emoji evoke more positive emotions than non-face emoji.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, I extend Shannon’s linear model of communication into a model in which communication is differentiated both vertically and horizontally (Simon, 1973). Following Weaver (1949), three layers are distinguished operating in relation to one another: (i) at level A, the events are sequenced historically along the arrow of time, generating Shannon-type information (that is, uncertainty); (ii) the incursion of meanings at level B is referential to (iii) horizons of meaning spanned by codes in the communication at level C. In other words, relations at level A are first distinguished from correlations among patterns of relations and non-relations at level B. The correlations span a vector space on top of the network of relations. Relations are positioned in this vector space and can then be provided with meaning. Different positions provide other perspectives and horizons of meaning. Perspectives can overlap, for example, in Triple-Helix relations. Overlapping perspectives can generate redundancies—that is, new options—as a result of synergies.

Abstract:
Radiation is a type of ionizing and non-ionizing energy that we encounter in daily life. It is used in diagnosis and treatment with biomedical devices, electrical energy production, communication, food industry and many other areas that we cannot list here. Food irradiation, similar to other food preservation methods, has advantages and disadvantages depending on the type of food to be processed. It is increasingly used as an alternative method to food fumigation to control microbial contamination and pest infestation and to facilitate the trade of fresh and dried foods.Food is exposed to intense ionizing radiation in a carefully measured amount for a certain period of time in a special treatment chamber. During food irradiation, radiant energy (electrons, gamma rays, or x-rays) breaks chemical bonds and ensures that the food still remains fresh, but provides specific benefits depending on the level of processing.it should not be forgotten that complying with the necessary safety procedures in the use of this energy and ensuring environmental safety are extremely important in terms of protecting human health.

To cause disease, plant viruses must replicate and spread locally and systemically within the host. Cell-to-cell virus spread is mediated by virus-encoded movement proteins (MPs), which modify the structure and function of plasmodesmata (Pd), trans-wall co-axial membranous tunnels that interconnect the cytoplasm of neighboring cells. Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) employ a single MP for cell- cell spread and for which CP is not required. The PIs, Beachy (USA) and Epel (Israel) and co-workers, developed new tools and approaches for study of the mechanism of spread of TMV that lead to a partial iden
