Abstract:
So we aimed at showing up that this register constitutes a privileged means for taking account of their emotions. We have collected observers's impressions who were submitted to video interviews between ageing people (2/3 of them were Alzheimer patients) and therapists. Half of the observers watched and gave their opinion from videos with sound, while the others watched and gave their opinion from videos without sound. We found convergences of opinions and lexical consensus between observers regarding labelling of emotions and supposed states in ageing people with dementia, supported by nonverbal informations and behavioral cues they expressed and perceived as coherent by observers. Moreover, according to the question asked to ageing people with dementia, the observers converged on separate consensus

Abstract:
Our study focuses specifically on communication between patients and their spouses. In order to investigate the nature of communication difficulties, cognitive impairment, impaired facial expression and the attachment styles of subjects were examined. Our investigation procedure involved detailed observation of couples’ communication processes (verbal and non-verbal communication) while completing a problem-solving task. Furthermore, we construct a test of facial emotion recognition composed of images from the DM1 and control groups, which was administered to 57 naive subjects. Results enables us to confirm that impaired facial expression, social cognition difficulties (theory of mind) and attachment style play a major role, in the communication and comprehension difficulties reported by patients and their families. A phenomenon of relational misinterpretation seems to occur between patients and their partners. It is therefore important to raise couples’ awareness of the role of non-verbal communication in everyday life. Non-verbal communication not only provides information about an individual’s internal state (such as emotions), but also about his or her needs for attention and emotional support

Abstract:

Abstract:
An over-rich diet combined with a sedentary lifestyle leads to hyperglycemia over time. The increase in body mass of these subjects induces chronic inflammation. This phenomenon ultimately disrupts the physiology of the pancreatic β cell by causing the loss of its insulin secretoryfunction and reducing the pancreatic islet mass, leading to insulin-dependent, last stage of ype 2 diabetes. The "cross-talk" wich is a complex phenomenon exploring the interaction ofdifferent organs through chemical messengers, is disrupted in the pathophysiology of type 2diabetes. In this context, the muscle is able to provide responses through myokine secretions. This study focuses on one myokine in particular, Decorine, secreted mainly bytriceps and having promising characteristics in the protection of the β cell against the deleterious inflammatory phenomena present in type 2 diabetes. We have demonstrated the potentiating role of Decorin on the functionality of the β cell in rats and humans. We have also demonstrated that Décorin has a protective role in an inflammatory context modeled by TNF-α. This work, constituting the first study on the beneficial role of Decorinon cell β, highlights its therapeutic interest in a pharmacological management strategy fortype 2 diabetes

"Does the Use of Personally Relevant Stimuli in Semantic Complexity Training Facilitate Improved Functional Communication Performance Compared to Non-Personally Relevant Stimulus Items among Adults with Chronic Aphasia?" Scholar Commons, 2013. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/4704.

Abstract:
This study investigated the influence of semantic complexity treatment in individuals with fluent aphasia on discourse performance. Semantic treatment is an effective way to improve semantically based word retrieval problems in aphasia. Treatment focused on the semantic application of the Complexity Account of Treatment Efficacy (CATE) (Thompson, Shapiro, Kiran, & Sobecks, 2003) promotes training of complex items resulting in generalization to less complex, untrained items. In addition, research has shown that the personal relevance of treatment material can increase treatment efficacy. This study investigated the effect of semantic treatment of atypical personally relevant items among individuals with aphasia on discourse performance. Two treatment phases were applied to examine the influence of personally relevant and non-relevant treatment material on discourse performance. In addition, generalization from trained atypical items to untrained typical items was investigated. Methods and procedures were partially replicated from Kiran, Sandberg, & Sebastian (2011) examining semantic complexity within goal-derived (ad hoc) categories. Three participants with fluent aphasia were trained on three semantic tasks including category sorting, semantic feature generation/selection, and Yes/No feature questions. A generative naming task was used for probe data collection every second session. Stimuli consisted of atypical items only. The hypothesis that semantic complexity training of personally relevant items from ad hoc categories will produce greater generalization to associated, untrained items than training of non-relevant items and consequently increase discourse performance was not supported. The findings revealed a failure to replicate the magnitude and type of improvements previously reported for the typicality effect in generative naming. Clinical significance was found for personally relevant and non-relevant discourse performance. However, no consistent pattern was found within and across participants. In addition, effect size for generalization from trained atypical to untrained typical items was not significant. Limitations of this study lead to future directions to further specify participation selection, such as cognitive abilities, procedural changes, and the inclusion of discourse performance as an outcome measure. Overall, the results of this study provide weak support for replicating semantic treatment of atypical exemplars in ad-hoc categories and hence demonstrate the critical role of replication across labs to identify key issues in the candidacy, procedures, and outcome measurement of any developing treatment.

Abstract:

Gustavsson, Lennart. "Language taught and language used : dialogue processes in dyadic lessons of Swedish as a second language compared with non-didactic conversations." Doctoral thesis, Linköpings universitet, Tema Kommunikation, 1988. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-35339.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research reported in this monograph has been twofold. First, it aims at contributing to an inquiry of the ways in which language and context are intertwined. Second, it aims at giving a characterization of a specific communicative event, second language teaching. The study starts out from a broad social-theoretical perspective, inspired by language game theory and ethnomethodology, as well as Goffman's (1974) 'frame analysis' and the work of Ragnar Rommetveit (1974, 1987). Levinson's (1979) notion 'activity type' is used in exploring how relevance criteria and frames of interpretation vary with the context of the activity in which language is used. The empirical material for the study consists of eight dyadic lessons of Swedish as a second language in grades 4-6 of the Swedish comprehensive, compulsory school. As material for comparison, the pupils, 10-12 year old boys from the Middle East, also participate in two non-didactic conversations around tasks defined by the research team, one together with his teacher of Swedish, one together with a class-mate of his. The first of the three empirical studies is a qualitative, discursive analysis of salient dialogue processes in language teaching activities. Abrupt shifts and breaks in the dialogue, misunderstandings, and lack of tuning between the conversational parties are interpreted as results of a tension between language at two levels in the language lesson. The dialogue in the language lessons of the corpus is characterized by an ambivalence between two perspectives on language, the ordinary, everyday perspective on language as a means for constructing and conveying messages versus the 'level 2 perspective', where language is seen as anabstract system of decontextualized linguistic items. The two other empirical studies are quantitatively oriented. In the first of these, important differences in dialogue processes, concerning dynamics, coherence and fluency are found between the lessons and the non-didactic conversations, as well as between different activities within the confines of a lesson. One of the most important results is that the teacher's interactional dominance seems to be systematically related to the content of lesson activities. The results of the last study suggest that in lessons, and especially language lessons proper, the pupil is givenfewer opportunities for talking and, also, that he refrains from taking the opportunities actually given to him. The main significance of the research is the demonstration of the dynamic character of linguistic communication and of the way in which linguistic meaning is the product of utterances being embedded in activities on which activity-specific premisses for communication are brought to bear. Also, the second language teaching situation is characterized as connected with particular communicative practices that are imbued with a certain degree of ambivalence and ambiguity.

The intention of this paper is to reflect and discuss the considerations of the use of interjections and phrases interjetivas acts as expressive, natural conversation, expressing your feelings through words and body language, featuring different senses of semantic and discursive. For data analysis, this research sought supports the theories of speech acts, based on theoretical and Austin (1962) and Searle (1981), in conversation analysis with theoretical support in Marcuschi (1991) and Dionysus (2011), and in the language of visual imagery, verbal and non-verbal of comic strips with methodological studies of Gumperz (1998) and Ramos (2010). The corpus chosen for this research consists in comic strips, selected the Folha de São Paulo in 1970 and 1990, in textbooks and electronic sites. This is a survey of the basic nature of the qualitative type that you want to analyze the form and function of interjections and phrases within interjetivas comic strips, observing the discursive and semantic factors. The analysis results show that, as of interjections and phrases can be interjetivas list the basic emotions of expressive acts and explain its flexibility from factors of pragmatic, and expressive acts that are not in the service of transmitting a information, but the service of a manifestation of an emotional state, observed in speech acts and conversation between characters when it materializes the image visual communication, verbal and nonverbal.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>電腦與通信工程研究所<br>104<br>Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices which have been applied extensively generate a small amount of data exchanged periodically. However, legacy transmission method used in 3GPP is not suitable for MTC device to perform small data transmission. The reason is these devices will have to perform random access procedures to establish the Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection. This scenario will increase network overhead and power consumption of MTC device. Non-Access Stratum (NAS) method proposed from 3GPP TR23.887 document can improve network overhead. Small data can be added into NAS packet and NAS packet supports the encrypted function for protecting data. Hence, the transmission procedures which included the establishment of the radio bearers and security mode are redundant. Nevertheless, this document does not show sufficient simulation statistics which prove this method is efficient. The objective of this thesis is to devise an analytical model used to explore if NAS method can be applied to small data transmission. Numerical result shows that NAS method can extend the lifetime of device without causing the increment of access delay when infrequently small data being produced.

Caleb, JoNise. "Health Communication, Health Literacy, and the Prevalence of Obesity, Depression, Anxiety and Good Disease Self-Management Among Diverse Adults Living With Type 2 Diabetes: Identifying Predictors of High Quality Patient-Provider Communication and Quality of Life." Thesis, 2021. https://doi.org/10.7916/d8-knn9-qs40.

Abstract:
Type 2 diabetes is a highly prevalent disease, projected to increase in prevalence, while expensive to treat. This study sought to identify significant predictors of each of the two study outcome variables—a higher quality of patient-provider communication, and a higher quality of life. The online sample (N=72) was 78% (n=56) female with a mean age of 55.3 years, while 71% Black/African American with a good overall health status. They rated the overall quality of care received from their provider between good and very good. Using the new Patient-Provider Communication Scale (PP-CS-07, patient-provider communication was closest to very good. Health literacy skills were closest to very good, and health literacy self-efficacy was closest to very good. Level of knowledge for caring for type 2 diabetes was closest to very good knowledge. Participants were in an action stage with 80% confidence (very good self-efficacy) to perform seven diabetes self-management behaviors. Some 43.1% experienced depression, 44.4% experienced anxiety, and 20.8% sought counseling in the past year. The mean quality of life rating was closest to good quality of life. While controlling for social desirability, backward stepwise regression showed better quality patient-provider communication was significantly predicted by: received diabetes education, higher rating of health care quality, higher level of health literacy skills, and, being in a lower stage of change for self-care behaviors—with 79.2% of variance explained by this model. Better quality of life was significantly predicted by: female gender, having received diabetes education, no past year anxiety, higher annual household income, lower weight status, higher health literacy self-efficacy, higher rating of knowledge of diabetes self-management—with 69.4% of the variance explained by this model. Findings make a compelling case for screening patients for depression and anxiety, using the brief tool used in this study; and future research evaluating the impact of health educators and providers being trained in motivational interviewing, while using the Patient-Provider Communication Scale (PP-CS-7) as a new tool to compare ratings by patients of providers trained in motivational interviewing. Healthcare policy should mandate such training in brief motivational interviewing, and evaluate the impact of training in containing costs.
