In 20th-century folkloristics, it was commonly held that prayer was a religious phenomenon, while verbal charms were associated with magic. However, this dichotomy formed by scholars is often not accurate or useful in practical terms when attempting to differentiate between these genres. In Lithuania, verbal charms and prayers form a common text corpus, and the emic terms užkalbėjimas “verbal charm” and malda “prayer” do not align with the etic system of folklore classification, which categorizes them as separate genres. The goal of this work is to look at the opposition of empirical terms – theoretical terms from a linguistic point of view, identifying attributes of the theoretical and empirical in terminology. It is proposed to be guided by the following principles. Theoricity is a graded (scaled) property. The term can be more or less theoretical, and even the minimum degree of its theoricity (provided, for example, by its definition, the understanding of which does not require special knowledge) means it is not entirely empirical. Empiricism of the term implies its perception and assimilation through any n

The category of participle (P) usually includes at least two distinct paradigms. The terms for these vary, as it is not easy to determine the often language-specific nature of the opposition encoded in them. Temporal- ‘aspectual’ terminology is widely applied, giving present or ‘imperfect’ or progressive Ps as opposed to past, preterite, or ‘perfect’ Ps. An alternative popular opposition in many a linguistic tradition is of active vs. passive Ps. To avoid commitment to any of these nomenclatures, I use neutral formal terms: PI and P2.In order to establish the place of P in the verbal system of

Clinical assessment of patients and therapeutic interaction relies on the clinician’s interpersonal skills. The psychiatric interview serves the purposes to understand signs and symptoms in terms of their (maladaptive) meaning, to ascertain a (preliminary) diagnosis, and to initiate therapy. The clinician’s task, therefore, is to simultaneously listen to the patient’s subjective report, observe the patient’s non-verbal and paraverbal behaviour, and be attentive to his or her own emotional reactions (self-reflection). Specifically, sometimes the non-verbal expressions of behaviour tell more abo
