Using the absolute stability requirement of the Standard Model vacuum, we compute the Higgs mass bound for the 1-loop Standard Model effective potential with gauge dependence in the $R_\xi$ gauges together with 3-loop beta functions, 3-loop anomalous dimension and 2-loop threshold corrections. We find that the bound changes by +0.1GeV when we change the gauge parameter $\xi$ from 0 to 50. We also report that the Higgs bound plateaus as we increase $\xi$ beyond 100.

In this thesis we investigate the role played by fundamental properties of QED in determining the non-perturbative fermion-boson vertex. These key features are gauge invariance and multiplicative renormalisability. We use the Schwinger-Dyson equations as the non- perturbative tool to study the general structure of the fermion-boson vertex in QED. This thesis investigates applications of the gauge/gravity duality to strongly coupled quantum field theories. After a review of the duality and of correlators and transport in quantum systems, we present our results on second-order non-conformal hydrodynamics. We derive new Kubo formulae for five second-order transport coefficients in non-conformal relativistic fluids. We then apply these Kubo formulae to a class of non-conformal holographic fluids at infinite coupling. The dynamics in these variables resembles the Skyrme-Faddeev model. When calculating scattering processes in theories involving massless gauge bosons, such as gluons in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), one encounters infrared (IR), or soft, divergences. To obtain precise predictions, it is important to have exact expressions for these IR divergences, which are present in any on-shell scattering amplitude. Due to their long wavelength, soft gluons factorise with respect to short-distance, or hard, interactions and can be captured by correlators of semi-infinite Wilson lines. Several different approaches to renormalization are studied. The Callan-Symanzik equation is derived and we study its beta functions. An effective potential for the Coleman-Weinberg model is studied to find that the beta function is positive and that spontaneous symmetry breaking will occur if we expand around the classical field. Recent efforts to classify off-shell representations of supersymmetry without a central charge have focused upon directed, supermultiplet graphs of hypercubic topology known as Adinkras. These encodings of Super Poincare algebras, depict every generator of a chosen supersymmetry as a node-pair transformtion between fermionic / bosonic component fields. Nesta tese estudamos possíveis extensões do modelo CPN-1 em (2+1) dimensões. Provamos que quando tomado na representação fundamental à esquerda ele é renormalizável e não possui divergências infravermelhas perigosas. O mesmo não ocorre se o campo principal . Mostramos que a inclusão de férmions, minimamente acoplados ao campo de calibre, traz alguma melhoria no comportamento das divergências infravermelhas no setor de calibre em ordem dominante em 1/N. Através do formalismo de supercampos, estudamos as propriedades ultravioletas da eletrodinâmica quântica supersimétrica no espaço-tempo tridimensional. Mostramos que esta teoria é finita em todas as ordens de perturbação num calibre particular. Também apresentamos uma análise perturbativa do modelo de Chern-Simons supersimétrico acoplado a um supercampo escalar complexo. Com isso, estudamos a quebra da simetria de calibre U(1) e calculamos as primeiras correções quânticas à ação efetiva na fase quebrada.
