Disordered media with refractive index variations can be found in the atmosphere, the ocean, and in many materials or biological tissues. Several technologies that make use of such random media, as image formation, satellite communication, astronomy or microscopy, must deal with an unavoidable light scattering or diffusion. This is why for many years light propagation through random media has been a subject of intensive study. Interesting phenomena such as speckle, coherent backscattering or random lasing have been discovered and studied. More recently, researchers are beginning to investigate

Performance and reliability of solid state laser diodes in the IR region exceeds those in the visible and UV part of the light spectrum. Single frequency visible and UV laser diodes with higher than 500 mW power are not available commercially. However we successfully stabilized a multi-longitudinal mode IR laser to 860 mW single frequency. This means high efficiency harmonic generation using this laser can produce visible and UV laser light not available otherwise. Abstract:
The creation of optical states of light that are quantum mechanical in nature in optical fibers is discussed and demonstrated experimentally. Specifically, two- photon states created by spontaneous four-wave-mixing in commercially available single-mode, birefringent fibers are studied. When creating photon states of light, it is important to verify the created states are of the proper photon number distribution and free of noise. We detail a method for combining thresholding, non-number resolving detectors to characterize the photon number distribution created via SFWM and a procedure to quant

Abstract:
The use of supercontinuum light sources in different optical measurement methods, like microscopy or optical coherence tomography, has increased significantly compared to classical wideband light sources. The development of various optical measurement techniques benefits from the high brightness and bandwidth, as well as the spatial coherence of these sources. For some applications, only a portion of the broad spectral range can be used. Therefore, an increase of the spectral power density in limited spectral regions would provide a clear advantage over spectral filtering. This study describes
