This thesis is devoted to the analysis of nonlinear shell problems. First, using the tangential differential calculus and the oriented boundary distance function, we derive two intrinsic nonlinear models for thin/shallow shells made up of a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff material or a homogeneous, isotropic, elastic material. The models extend the natural theory of plates to thin/shallow shells. Next, we prove the regularity property for the solutions of the linear model, and differentiability of the nonlinear operators associated with the nonlinear models in the given spaces. This thesis deals with estimation of states and parameters in nonlinear and non-Gaussian dynamic systems. Sequential Monte Carlo methods are mainly used to this end. These methods rely on models of the underlying system, motivating some developments of the model concept. One of the main reasons for the interest in nonlinear estimation is that problems of this kind arise naturally in many important applications. Several applications of nonlinear estimation are studied. The models most commonly used for estimation are based on stochastic difference equations, referred to as state-space models. T

It is a perturbative analysis that begins from Maxwell’s equations and its constituent relations to derive a vectorial nonlinear wave equation. In fact, it is a new theoretical method that has been developed that builds on previous aspects of nonlinear optics in a more general way. The perturbation in the wave equation derived is coupled with its complex conjugate which has been taken for granted so far. Once decoupled it gives rise to a second-order equation and thus a true instability regime because the wavevector can become
