Abstract:
In the new criticism, the reading process is involving both reader and the work. This study aimed to find what makes a work become popular based on readers' responses. By using the Bridgerton first series, this study was analyzed using transactive criticism by Norman N. Holland. According to Holland, in the reading process, there are 4 modalities used by the audience as the step to understand the process of making meaning in Holland’s perspective, there are defense, expectation, fantasy, and transformation. The data was gathered from the comments of the audience in IMDb. The results found that

Abstract:
The term “direct” has been used quite liberally in recent discussions of human performance and human-machine systems. Shneiderman (1983) discusses “direct manipulation”; Hutchins, Hollan and Norman (1986) discuss “direct engagement”; and Gibson (1979) discusses “direct perception”. This paper will compare these different uses of the term direct and will examine the implications for interface design.

The piranha Serrasalmus hollandi was described in 1915 by Eigenmann based on a single specimen from the upper Madeira River basin in the southwestern Amazon and the holotype was later lost. Because morphological variation is absent from the description, species identification is somewhat difficult. Misidentification with S. eigenmanni, another poorly known but morphologically similar species, may have been common in ichthyological inventories. This last species was described in 1929 by Norman, based on a single specimen collected from the Essequibo River, which drains the Guyana Shield, northe

The May 1998 incident has become a historic event for the Indonesian nation, especially the Chinese race, who at that time were victims of the atrocities of the rioting of the indigenous masses. The pain of being a victim then became a collective memory for the Chinese ethnic group which continues to live on to this day. “Clara atawa Wanita yang Diperkosa” by Seno Gumira Ajidarma is a short story that contains this collective memory. Thus, this study tries to examine the psychology of a Chinese descent reader when they read the short story of “Clara atawa Wanita yang Diperkosa”. There is one r

Abstract:
Selected South African high school students’ perceptions of stereotypes in William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” are the center of attention in an attempt to establish or refute the existence of a uniform interpretation in the interpretive community. The textual reader responses were collected by using a questionnaire. The results show that the respondents use stereotypes to understand encounters with literary texts and as tools to connect the content of the text with their own experiences. The stereotypes also provide a framework for the readers to position themselves with or against the text

Abstract:
Prior to the year 2000, the RRP crude oil pipeline network in Holland and Germany was monitored using a dynamic leak detection system based on a dynamic model. The system produced some false alarms during normal operation; prompting RRP to investigate what advances had been made in the leak detection field before committing to upgrade the existing system for Y2K compliance. RRP studied the available leak detection systems and decided to install a statistics-based system. This paper examines the field application of the statistics based leak detection system on the three crude oil pipelines ope

The Graph Model of Combinatory Logic (Engeler, 1981) is also a mathematical model for "how does the brain think". It attempts to explain how complex scripts of behavior and conceptual content can reside in, combine, and interact on large neural networks (Engeler 2019). This has an impact on building intelligent systems that interact with humans. Intelligent systems should employ the same kind of concepts humans do; otherwise, their actions remain incomprehensible and erratic to human users, concepts can be represented in the Graph Model by using the "Lambda-Theorem" found be Barendregt in 1977

In this study, effect of counterface roughness on dry sliding wear of polyoximethylene (POM) and polypropylene (PP) against stainless steel discs (HRC 52) is investigated. A pad on disc tribotester was used. Cylindrical surfaces of discs were used as wearing surfaces. Polymer specimens were produced as cylindrical pins. One of end faces of each pin was formed in the same radius of the discs. Normal force and sliding speed were constant. Roughness of the discs was produced by cylindrical grinding. Very low roughness values (mean of profile deviations Ra < 0.15 μm) were produced by using
