The English reviewer for Nature (Renfrew 1990) declared that Bruce Trigger's new history of archaeology will become the standard account of our subject's history, and the French reviewer for ANTIQUITY also has a warm view (this issue, page 960). Having looked to the past, what does Trigger see for the future of archaeology in North America, as the reaction comes to the view of archaeology as, primarily, science that has dominated these last decades?

Abstract:
We examined whether Koreans intended to make an apology and North Americans intended to express thanks in a message asking for a favor. Because one reason for apologizing or thanking is to lessen the face threat occurred by favor asking, four face threats were empirically measured to predict participants' intentions. Participants were 104 North American and 90 Korean college students who took the role of an email sender making a favor request and selected from options for apologizing or thanking the receiver to lessen the four types of face threat. Results showed that North Americans intended to express thanks, and both North Americans and Koreans intended to make an apology when asking a favor; further, for Koreans, a speaker's positive face threat triggered intention to make an apology and, for North Americans, a receiver's negative face threat triggered an intention to express thanks. Implications and future research directions are discussed.

Abstract:
The appropriate use of natural resources in the design of broiler houses provides a reduction in farming operating costs and optimization of production conditions. Therefore, the natural shading around the broiler house can be an alternative for improving internal conditions of comfort. This study verified the efficiency of natural shading in the broiler productivity index (PI) in East-West oriented commercial housings. The PI of 32 commercial broiler houses in five flocks divided throughout a year was compared. The sheds had the same management, density and the same structural features, except from tree shading: on the North face; on the South face; on both faces and without shading. It was observed that broiler house in East-West direction with shading on the South face had higher productivity index compared to houses with shading only on the North face or on both sides, between autumn and spring. For the summer period, sheds without shading showed productivity indexes superior to others.

Abstract:
The objective of this research is to evaluate the impact of the orientation of a building, built in clay brick, on the temperatures of its faces, to determine the best orientation that maximizes building ventilation and minimizes overheating. We first performed a climate analysis of the site using the consultant climate software, then we have evaluate the temperatures of each face using a dynamic thermal simulation. The analysis indicates that in order to benefit from good ventilation, the building should be oriented along the Southwest face; and that an orientation along the South face would reduce the exposure of the building to sunshine. Also, numerical evaluation shows an overheating of about 4° C between the South and North faces; and about 2° C between the East and West faces. In addition, the South, North, East and West faces reach maximum temperatures of 34.75° C, 38.5° C, 40.25° C and 42° C respectively. The choice of an orientation can induce overheating from the wall, up to 7.25° C. A joint analysis of these two results leads to the conclusion that the best orientation for a building in Côte d'Ivoire is the South direction.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Do you know what choices you would make if faced with an ethical dilemma? This fact-based case includes situations and issues that a real citizen considered when faced with the knowledge that his employer may have been overbilling the state of North Carolina for health care. Professionals, especially those in accounting and finance positions, are likely to face serious dilemmas in the course of their careers. These situations may require them to choose between honoring a confidentiality clause in an employment contract and acting according to ethical and professional values. This case provides facts gathered from an actual case in which an individual faced this particular challenge. By working through the case, students should develop an appreciation of the pressures and personal ethical challenges they are likely to face in the workplace. By engaging in discussion and role-play, students will be more likely to recognize these issues when they occur, and will have already developed critical thinking skills to help them develop a plan of action.

Abstract:
Over the last decade, public discourse in Europe and North America has beenoverwhelmingly in favor of banning the face veil (niqab). Politicians like JackStraw in the UK or John Charest in Québec have commented on its putativehindrance to community integration due to its covering of the face. So a bookentitled Face Politics would seem to offer some insights into this anti-niqabdynamic. A quick perusal of the index for “niqab,” “Islam,” and “Muslimwomen,” however, comes up unexpectedly empty. What, then, is “face politics” and how can an academic discussion about the “face” not mention niqab, arguablyone of the most burning issues of “face politics” this century? The book is a profound, intellectually challenging, sometimes dense, andyet empathetic and beautifully written exploration of how contemporary westernpolitics is predicated around individuality and the separatedness of being, signified by the idea of the face as a “window onto the [individual’s] soul” (p.165). Because she believes that “a politics that makes the face is a politics thatproduces the person as an object” (p.7), the author wishes to propose a differentconcept of the face, that of a mask hiding our inseparable connectedness, andconcludes that such an alternative would lead to a profoundly different, andbetter, political society, one symbolized by the concept of the tango. Indeed, the tagline on the dedication page is “If the face is a politics, dismantling theface is also a politics,” from French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalystFélix Guattari’s 1980 book A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism andSchizophrenia ...

Recognizing that school nurse leaders are essential to the development of school nurses, the North Carolina School Nurse Leadership Institute was developed to enable school nurse leaders to update and advance their leadership skills. The Institute was a collaborative endeavor between the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Eastern Area Health Education Center, and East Carolina University School of Nursing. School nurse leaders were empowered to assume a role in public policy, and they were provided opportunities to network with leaders in other counties throughout the state. A combination of face-to-face and asynchronous discussion via the Internet was used to foster continuous rather than episodic learning. Participant evaluations were positive and indicated a significant increase in learning in key areas.

Despite valiant efforts to protect them, the forest guards are poorly equipped and no match for poachers armed with automatic weapons or those who make use of high-voltage power lines to electrocute the animals. The authors have discussed the many problems besetting rhino conservation in Assam with wildlife officials and they make several recommendations that would improve the situation.

Abstract:
AbstractThe efficient use of water is increasingly important and proper soil management, within the specificities of each region of the country, allows achieving greater efficiency. The South and Caparaó regions of Espírito Santo, Brazil are characterized by relief of ‘hill seas’ with differences in the degree of pasture degradation due to sun exposure. The objective of this study was to evaluate the least limiting water range in Udox soil under degraded pastures with two faces of exposure to the sun and three pedoenvironments. In each pedoenvironment, namely Alegre, Celina, and Café, two areas were selected, one with exposure on the North/West face and the other on the South/East face. In each of these areas, undisturbed soil samples were collected at 0-10 cm depth to determine the least limiting water range. The exposed face of the pasture that received the highest solar incidence (North/West) presented the lowest values in least limiting water range. The least limiting water range proved to be a physical quality indicator for Udox soil under degraded pastures.

Abstract:
AbstractNorth Korea references gender equality in its socialist constitution, but the de facto social and legal circumstances that women face in the country are far below the de jure status they are purported to enjoy. North Korean women endure extremely low public health standards and pervasive harassment. Yet their growing market power and social influence are underestimated. Women account for the majority of North Korean border crossers, and their informal economic activities are supporting families while modernizing the economy. This essay examines the dangers of exploitation that North Korean women face and highlights the ethical and legal imperatives of supporting their roles in marketizing the economy and liberalizing the society in one of the worst human rights–violating states. Women are North Korea's most deserving recipients of international assistance and the country's most promising partners to the world.

This article examines the cultural politics and labor of the 818 Session, a krump and street dancing collective that appropriates and repurposes a North Hollywood parking lot for dance sessions on Wednesday nights. In the face of the general culture of spatial domination and regulation in Los Angeles, most especially regarding the experiences of youth of color, the 818 Session promotes a culture of dance and play that collectively reshapes their environment and challenges much of what constitutes public space in Los Angeles. Here, in an empty Ralphs grocery store parking lot late-at-night, krump dancers interact with space, identifying interstices to produce racial and spatial formations anew.

Abstract:
The Government has put in place policies and programmes to alleviate urban poverty. Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are the facilitators to reduce poverty in their respective areas. Urban Self-Help Groups (SHGs) aim at sustainable employment for their members. But they face many challenges during their day-to-day activities. The present study aims at identifying the issues, challenges or problems faced by SHGs in the urban areas of the State of Tripura. It relates to urban areas of Tripura, a small hilly state in the North-East India, for which 14 ULBs out of 20 have been selected from all the eight districts. Based on a sample size of 353 SHGs, the study shows that women SHG members have to face internal or organizational challenges and external ones in running SHGs having a cascading effect to their income level, which is not sufficient enough to cross the poverty line sustainably. The paper has also recommended certain solutions to the problems.

Abstract:
Creative work of the Nenets poet Yuri Vella occupies a special place in the literary community of the peoples of Russia. On the one hand, it fits into the main paradigms of the development of national literatures at the turn of the 20th–21st centuries (rapid increase of the dominance of the Russian language in the ethnohumanitarian environment; urbanistic motivic and figurative cluster; the relevance of the environmental topics; representative value of social narratives; a high level of ethnographic writing, etc.). On the other hand, Vella’s poems highlight one of the possible trajectories of the poetic traditions of the peoples of Russia in the near future (increased significance of the free verse; increased attention to ethnolinguistic “ornamentation” of texts; expansion of the visual component in the structure of the book; coexistence of different languages under one cover). The life and poetry of Yuri Vella confirm that the most important catalyst for the development of national literature is the author’s own active and creative personality. At the same time, the study of Yuri Vella’s work has interest in the context of broader studies of the national literature of the peoples of the Far North and its current state.

Abstract:
Over the past decade, the Latino population in North Carolina has increased 111%. More than half of North Carolina Latinos are foreign-born and most face issues related to immigration, acculturation, and often, discrimination. This article provides a brief overview of the historical context in which social workers engaged with immigrant communities, and argues that the profession brings strengths and unique skills to address North Carolina’s Latino immigrant population, historically, and within the current context. Key social demographics of Latino populations, sociopolitical realities, as well as theoretical and methodological issues related to the complex needs of this diverse population group are addressed. Two examples of Latino vulnerability in North Carolina, HIV/AIDS and discriminatory local immigration enforcement practices, are discussed to further highlight the unique strengths and challenges social workers in North Carolina and the New South face when working with Latino immigrants.

From the in situ test, the construction technology and related construction parameters of geogrid of simplified face to reinforce the swelling rock slope was obtained, in which the construction of geogrid with wrapped face was optimized, the construction progress was improved and its cost was reduced, which contributed to the generalization and application of geogrid with simplified wrapped face to reinforce swelling rock slope in the middle-route of South-to-North Water Division Project, meanwhile, it was provided as a references for similar engineering.

Libraries of all types face funding challenges. From the small public library competing with police and fire departments for scarce tax dollars to the large academic library hit by double-digit inflation rates for journal subscriptions, libraries often must look to outside funding sources to supplement their budgets.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Many challenges that confront social workers today are similar to problems they have faced over the past century – inequality, poverty, unemployment, militarisation and armed conflict, and the challenges of refugee resettlement, to name a few. It is instructive for contemporary social workers to revisit this history and to determine if there are lessons to inform our current struggles.METHOD: This paper explores the issues faced and strategies employed by radical, politically active social workers, most of them women. These social workers had visions of social justice and were not afraid to challenge the status quo, often at very high personal costs. The radical social workers were expressly interested in social change that centred on social justice, women’s rights, anti-racism, international peace, and they worked in close alliance and solidarity with other progressive groups.CONCLUSIONS: This article highlights the work of five radical female social workers. Radical social workers were in the minority but they were extraordinarily active and made important contributions in the face of formidable challenges.

Abstract:
Trade unions often face complex and uncertain relations with multinational employers, particularly in old industrial regions. Such corporations have long histories in such regions, often attracted by a range of incentives such as financial support, cheap energy and a skilled workforce. However, the plants themselves often experience changes in ownership and face economic uncertainty. This constitutes the terrain within which recognised unions seek to organise, exercise their capacities and realise their purposes. Workers and their unions organise and operate in these plants, usually developing established routines and practices in relation to the terms and conditions of employment and advocacy of worker concerns. However, they also face difficult choices in relation to corporate decisions to restructure and/or close regional plants. In order for unions to respond to the shifting terrain of the employment landscape they must be able to mobilise around political and economic factors that impact on employment. These themes are addressed with specific reference to union struggles in North West Tasmania, a region that is undergoing a process of de-industrialisation.

Abstract:
Examines the purpose of marriage in North America, once understood in the context of institution, now understood as companionship. Asserts that married partners now value “extra” relationships when they exclude sexual involvement. Cites research findings which document significant rates of extramarital sexual involvement. Explores the conflict between attitudes disapproving extramarital sexual relationships and actions involving extramarital sexual relationships. Discusses current research and theory about extramarital relationships and the necessity for reviewing commitments in the context of this change and conflict. Suggests a framework for pastoral counselors with particular attention to issues of commitment.

Abstract:
This study aims to explore online and face-to-face learning (class) so that it can be effective, and the curriculum objectives are met. The nature of this research is qualitative phenomenology to be able to find out the extent of the application of learning that has been carried out online and face-to-face at SMA Erlangga Pematangsiantar, North Sumatera. The research mechanism includes the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research results found several obstacles in terms of implementation but in general, the teacher can overcome them well. During a pandemic, a teacher's creativity is highly tested by the learning he does both in online and face-to-face systems so that learning success can be achieved. Finally, this research gives the result that by comparing the learning system, the teacher actually wants direct (face-to-face) pursuit so that it is easier in the process of interactive communication with students, and student motivation also increases in classroom learning because of direct interaction.

Abstract:
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the delivery of primary care in the NHS. Consultations have largely moved from face-to-face to remote, forcing practitioners to modify the ways in which they deliver care to patients. Aim: In this study, we aim to investigate the appropriateness of antibiotic prescribing in tonsillitis during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design and Setting: An observational quantitative analysis in the North Wales primary care setting. Method: Retrospective review of computer records across 5 GP centers from March 2020 until the end of October 2020. Data was extracted and analyzed using chi-square or fisher exact rank and Mann–Whitney test. Results: Our results have shown no significant difference in antibiotic prescribing behavior comparing face-to-face and remote consultations. Conclusion: Remote consultation is as effective as face-to-face consultation with regards to the assessment of tonsillitis and the appropriateness of antibiotic prescription in primary care.

Abstract:
summary Until recently many remote communities in Scotland, especially on the northern islands, were unable to access specialist eating disorder services. The Grampian Eating Disorder Service, based in the north-east of Scotland, has developed a video-therapy service that offers specialist psychological and nutritional therapy for sufferers of eating disorders. Twelve patients have been treated via videoconferencing. Patients consistently rated high levels of satisfaction with all aspects of video-therapy, and after their last session 67% preferred video-therapy to face-to-face therapy. A number of patients commented that, compared with face-to-face therapy, they felt more in control and less intimidated in video-therapy. There was also a trend for patients to become more comfortable with video-therapy over the course of treatment. Nutritional knowledge increased for all patients, and the nutritional content of dietary intake also markedly improved over the course of therapy.
