Global detente seems to be a trend in the near future. The exorbitant German reunification, expecially, has instigated South Korea's expectation for Korean integration. However, North Korea reportedly decided to return to their backward policy and took measures to forbid softening of their socio-political system: that is, they remain one of the world's most closed society. Although there is a hint of forward change, the behavior of the North Korean elites cast a gloom over the future of the lives of all Koreans. The increasing Soviet military presence at a close distance poses a more practical and serious threat to the security of Korea than any other country in the region. The Soviet transfer to North Korea of such sophisticated weapons as surface-to-surface missiles, the flight of Soviet aircraft over the airspace of North Korea, and Port calls by Soviet vessels are some manifestations of its intention to deploy forces in case of emergency. North Korea is often characterized as some form of highly centralized rule: totalitarian, posttotalitarian, corporatist, or personalistic. Much of the current thinking on North Korea's politics does not account for the limited institutional plurality in the system. The article documents how the state's political institutions have changed since the country's founding and highlights the formal and informal roles of each major bureaucracy today. Since its establishment as a nation-state after World War II, North Korea has undermined regional stability and has increased the threat to global security. The North Korean regime has shown time and time again that it will stop at nothing to maintain its power and portray itself as a strong and prosperous nation. Today the worry over North Korea extends well beyond its substantial conventional firepower—its asymmetric gains in chemical, biological, nuclear, and cyber warfare capabilities have given rise to a new set of complexities that frustrate international accord. Abstract:
The Southeast Coast Network (SECN) Wadeable Stream Habitat Monitoring Protocol collects data to give park resource managers insight into the status of and trends in stream and near-channel habitat conditions (McDonald et al. 2018a). Wadeable stream monitoring is currently implemented at the five SECN inland parks with wadeable streams. These parks include Horseshoe Bend National Military Park (HOBE), Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (KEMO), Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park (OCMU), Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CHAT), and Congaree National Park (CONG).
