In the latter case, political discourse is an important factor in successful region-building. In recent decades, geographers and economists in particular have investigated the dynamics of how local institutional conditions and their local mobilisation can affect development outcomes and how development is determined by “structural” forces such as state- and EU-based regulations and globalisation of the economy. Yet, it has already been criticised for its theoretical underpinnings which would, ultimately, impede it to achieve its objectives. The article summarizes the main geodetic activities performed in the region of Southwestern Bulgaria to study the modern crustal movements and clarify the geodynamic situation of the region. The study area is bounded to the north of the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains, to the south to the southern slopes of the Rila Mountains, to the west the western border of Bulgaria and to the east the beginning of the Upper Thracian plain. The area has a complex geological structure with many active faults that must be studied. The region is of particular interest due to its high population den

ABSTRACT There are few surveys related to amateur tennis. The existing surveys on this topic inform regarding the available facilities, prices for services and different programs. Our survey was focused on comparison of gender and age of amateur tennis players, as well as conditions and opportunities for amateur tennis in a hundred kilometers radius area covering two countries – Bulgaria and Greece. The collected information may be useful for tennis enthusiasts from both countries, and it may contribute to improvement of the relationship and partnership between them, especially since the dista

Abstract:
The unmetamorphosed and nearly undeformed late Mesoproterozoic Borden Basin on northern Baffin Island exhibits sag, rift, and foreland-basin-like phases. A thin, partly subaqueous basal basalt is overlain by mature shallow-marine quartz arenite, upward-deepening siltstone and shale (marking the beginning of rifting), a complex suite of rift-delineated carbonate units containing two dramatic internal unconformities, and a flysch-molasse-like succession containing evidence of sediment derivation from the Grenville Orogen. Geochronological data indicate that deposition of most of the succession t

Waste management in the northern latitudes is often more challenging than in the more central regions. Under the Arctic climate conditions with large distances between settlements and to the recycling facilities, and relatively smaller markets and volume of produced waste, there are special needs for developing new innovative solutions for waste management. WANO focuses on cross-border business and innovation cooperation in the field of waste management, including municipal and industrial waste, in the regions of Troms, Finnmark and Nordland (Norway), Lapland and North Ostrobothnia (Finland) a

Abstract:
Across East Africa’s vast rangelands, pastoralist livestock systems have been commercialising since the early 1900s. Commercialisation has varied widely within and between areas, but now includes substantial livestock exports, regional and cross-border trade, and supply to domestic markets. This policy brief examines some of the key features of pastoralism that affect how commercialisation evolves in pastoralist societies, and why poorer producers often benefit least from new market access. The policy brief draws on a substantial body of research and programme evaluations, and two new APRA res

Northern Ireland occupies a unique position following Brexit and the Windsor Framework. It is part of the UK fiscal, welfare and monetary unions – where the main policy levers are mostly exercised at a UK national level – along with its national economic policies for devolved administrations and regions. Simultaneously, it remains within the EU Single Market for goods with Dual EU/UK regulatory regimes, participates in the Common Travel Area (CTA) between the United Kingdom and Ireland and is supported by a commitment to continue specified areas of North-South cooperation.
