Abstract:
Background: Malaria is a protozoal disease caused by infection with parasites of Plasmodium species, such as P. vivax, P. falciparum, P. malariae, P. ovale and P. knowlesi through female Anopheles mosquito. Plasmodium vivax alone causes 60 to 65% of infections in India. The main objective of the study was to observe various complications in the patients affected with P. vivax malaria and to analyse the clinical, hematological and biochemical profile of these patients. Methods: A non-randomized prospective study was carried out on 170 patients with acute febrile illness admitted in the department of Medicine, SMS Hospital, Jaipur during period from October 2011 to September 2012 presented The infection was confirmed by detection of parasite (for P. vivax) in peripheral blood film by thick and thin slide methods and rapid diagnostic test (Optimal test). Results: Male preponderance was seen in the study. Death was noted in 5 (3%) patients. Thrombocytopenia (85%) was the most common finding observed. Level of serum creatinine was more than 1.5 mg/dl in 34.7% patients. Thirty-one patients (18.23%) had severe anaemia (Hb <6 gm/dl). Severe hypoglycemia was observed in 19 patients (<40-60 mg/dl). Acute renal failure was common comorbidity observed in majority of the patients. Mean LDH value was significantly higher in patients with hepatitis and anemia. Conclusions: The clinical pattern of P. vivax monoinfection has changed recently. Every patient of P. vivax malaria should be evaluated thoroughly for clinical or biochemical evidence of any complications and patients presenting with complications should managed as per guidelines of severe malaria.

Abstract:
Background. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease known to cause significant numbers of morbidities and mortalities across the globe. In Ethiopia, its transmission is generally seasonal and highly unstable due to variations in topography and rainfall patterns. Studying the trends in malaria in different setups is crucial for area-specific evidence-based interventions, informed decisions, and to track the effectiveness of malaria control programs. The trend in malaria infections in the area has not been documented. Hence, this study aimed to assess the five-year trend in microscopically confirmed malaria cases in Dembecha Health Center, West Gojjam Zone, Amhara national regional state, Ethiopia. Methods. A health facility-based retrospective study was conducted in Dembecha Health Center from February to April 2018. All microscopically confirmed malaria cases registered between 2011/12 and 2015/16 were carefully reviewed from laboratory record books and analyzed accordingly. Results. A total of 12,766 blood films were requested over the last five years at Dembecha Health Center. The number of microscopically confirmed malaria cases was 2086 (16.34%). The result showed a fluctuating yet declining trend in malaria infections. The highest number of cases was registered in 2012/13, while the lowest was in 2015/16. Males and age groups >20 constituted 58.9% and 44.2% of the patients, respectively, being the hardest hit by malaria in the area. Malaria existed in almost every month and seasons. Plasmodium falciparum was the predominant species. The highest peak of malaria infections was observed in the late transition (October-December) 799 (38.3%) and early transition (May-June) 589 (28.2%) seasons. Conclusion. Although the results indicate a fluctuating yet declining trend, the prevalence of confirmed malaria cases in the area remains alarming and indicates a major public health burden. Therefore, close monitoring and intervention measures to control malaria infections in the area and also to tackle the dominant species, Plasmodium falciparum, are necessitated accordingly.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTEleven ancient Chinese ceramics from the early Bronze Age Qijia culture (c. 2200 – 1600 BCE) in the collection of the Harvard Art Museums were the subject of an interdisciplinary research project to explore questions about manufacturing techniques, specifically details of formation and decoration. While the Qijia culture, centered in the Gansu and Qinghai provinces of northwest China, is historically important as one of the earliest metalworking cultures of China and as a center of intercultural communication between China and central Asia, detailed scholarship about the culture is still emerging. Qijia ceramics have been categorized by typology, but little has been done regarding methods of manufacture. This study used visual examination and digital X-radiography to investigate ceramic production, especially the use of a wheel. In addition, the ceramic paste, including natural inclusions and temper, was examined. While film radiography has often been used to study ceramics, digital radiography presented new capabilities as well as challenges. Experimentation through the making of test vessels and tiles at the Harvard Ceramics Program provided additional insights into Qijia ceramics’ manufacture and surface decoration techniques, often described as cord-impressed.

Abstract:
With the increase in urbanization, intraurban residential mobility, which underlies urban growth and spatial restructuring, is gradually becoming an integral part of migration in China. However, little is known about the differences in residential mobility between locals and migrants, especially in urban areas in Northwest China. In this study, we aimed to fill this void by investigating the residential mobility patterns among Urumqi’s locals and migrants based on data from a survey and face-to-face interviews that were conducted in 2018. The results first show that the migrants with low homeownership rates relocated more frequently, but had less intentions to move within Urumqi, compared with the locals. A larger proportion of migrants than locals was forced to migrate. Evidence also suggests that the migration directions of locals and migrants differ: both locals and migrants tended to relocate from the southern areas, like Tianshan and Saybark Districts, to northern areas, like Xinshi and Midong Districts, which show the northward migration process of the urban population center in Urumqi. In contrast to the locals, whose net migration direction was from marginal areas to the central area, the net migration direction of migrants was from the central area to the marginal areas, contributing to the formation of migrant communities in the suburbs and spatial segregation between locals and migrants. Lastly, the locals’ intentions to move were widely influenced by age, ethnic group, type of employment, family population, housing area, and residential satisfaction; the migrants’ mobility intentions were mainly influenced by housing type and residential satisfaction. To attract more migrants to the urban areas in Northwest China, a more relaxed migrants’ household registration policy should be implemented, and the inequalities of the social security system and housing system between migrants and locals should be reduced to bridge the gap between migrants and locals.

Abstract:
Background In Ethiopia, anti-malaria treatment is initiated after parasitological confirmation using blood film microscopy at health centers and hospitals, or serological rapid diagnostic tests at health posts. At health posts, the diagnosis is performed by health extension workers using rapid diagnostic tests after little training. However, there is paucity of data about the health extension workers’ performance on rapid diagnostic tests. Hence, periodic monitoring of the performances of health extension workers on malaria rapid diagnostic tests and predicted factors plays a pivotal role for the control of malaria. Methods A cross sectional study was conducted in May 2020, among 75 health extension workers working at health posts in Bahir Dar Zuria district, Northwest Ethiopia. Their performance on malaria rapid diagnostic tests was assessed by distributing known positive and negative samples as confirmed by investigators using both rapid diagnostic test and blood film microscopy. Test results from health extension workers were then compared with that of investigators. Procedural errors committed while performing the tests were assessed using observational checklist. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 20. Results The overall sensitivity and specificity of health extension workers in detecting Plasmodium species were 96.8% and 98.7%, respectively with 97.3% result agreement between the health extension workers and investigators (kappa value = 0.949). The most common procedural errors committed by health extension workers was ‘not checking expiry date of the test kits’ followed by ‘not adhering to the appropriate time of reading results’ that 70.7% and 64% of the participants committed these errors, respectively. Total number of procedural errors committed by those who have got in-service training was decreased by 47.3% as compared to those without in-service training. Conclusions Health extension workers had high performance on malaria rapid diagnostic tests. However, in-service training and periodic supervision should be given in order to maximize performance on these tests.

Abstract:
This research aims to investigate the social experiences of Nigerian film audiences in viewing centers to examine the possibility that social experiences are a potent influencer of the meaning construction process in the film viewing space. This study was conducted among other existing studies of the Nigerian film audience and it took on a performative approach. It involved the use of ethnography and unstructured interviews. The study examined Nollywood viewing center audiences during their shared practice of film viewing. Observing these audiences revealed several ways in which audiences negotiate meanings within the viewing center space from film texts based on their social identity and actual social experiences. It majorly revealed that viewers develop interpersonal understanding of each other’s similar relevant social situations through self-identification and then use this understanding in the interpretive process of meaning production.

Abstract:
Background. Assessing the outcomes of tuberculosis (TB) treatment is an important indicator for evaluation of the effectiveness of tuberculosis control programs. In Ethiopia, directly observed treatment short course (DOTS) was included in the national tuberculosis control program as a strategy but little is known about its effectiveness in the study area. Therefore, this study was aimed at assessing the treatment outcomes of TB patients and associated factors in Debre Tabor, northwest Ethiopia.Methods.A retrospective study was conducted among TB patients for the period from May 2008 to April 2013 at Debre Tabor Health Center, northwest Ethiopia. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Descriptive statistics were used to generate frequency tables and figures. Logistic regressions were used to identify factors associated with treatment outcomes atPvalue ≤ 0.05.Results.Out of 339 patients (197 males and 142 females) registered for antituberculosis treatment in Debre Tabor Health Center, only 303 patients were included in the treatment outcome analysis and 87.1% had successful treatment outcome while 12.9% had unsuccessful treatment outcome. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the odds of successful treatment outcome were higher among patients ≥45 years of age (AOR=3.807, 95% CI: 1.155–12.544) and lower among females (AOR=0.347, 95% CI: 0.132–0.917), rural residents (AOR=0.342, 95% CI: 0.118–0.986), and negative smear result at the second month of treatment (AOR=0.056, 95% CI: 0.005–0.577) as compared to their counterparts.Conclusion.The treatment outcome of all forms of tuberculosis patients in Debre Tabor health center was satisfactory as expected from effective implementation of DOTS. Although the observed successful treatment outcome was in agreement with the national target, follow-up of patients during the course of treatment to trace the treatment outcomes of transferred-out patients and assessment of other potential sociodemographic factors that could affect the treatment outcomes of TB patients were also recommended.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the issue of semantic transformations that occur when translating the titles of feature films using partial and complete replacement strategies. The research material includes 104 film titles, 31% of the total number of English-language films released in Russia in 2018. The paper attempts to highlight the semantic center in the film titles and classify them according to the type of the center. The analysis of the semantic structure of film titles in the original and translated versions made it possible to identify six groups with the semantic center of “character (s)”, “numbers”, “objects”, “chronotope”, “storyline”, “idea”. In 39% of the names, a shift in the semantic center with partial or complete replacement is observed. The name as a verbal component of a complex unit - filmtext is involved in the formation of the first impression of a potential audience. Film titles transformations can entail a shift in the focus of the addressee and affect his perception of film text as a whole. The study reveals a general tendency of transferring from abstract to concrete and from personal to event when translating the film titles from English to Russian.

Abstract:
Plastic film (i.e., transparent and black films) is widely applied in mulching to improve thermal environments and plant growth in China. However, choosing suitable film for potato cultivation in different areas is still a problem. A four-year field experiment was conducted to explore the influences of plastic mulch on heat transfer (soil heat flux, G; soil temperature; and canopy net radiation, Rn) and potato growth in two typical areas of China: Experiment 1 in Northwest China (2014 and 2015) and Experiment 2 in Eastern China (2016 and 2017). Three mulch treatments were designed as follows: (1) transparent film (TF), (2) black film (BF), and (3) no film (NF). Results showed that the Rn and G differences between TF, BF, and NF varied at different areas. However, the Rn in TF was always smaller (average 12.4 W/m2 in 2014–2017) than in BF in the two study areas. The differences of soil temperature between TF, BF, and NF in Experiment 1 were greater than in Experiment 2. The average soil temperature difference between TF and NF was 1.4 °C higher in Experiment 1 than in Experiment 2. TF had 23% and 19% more jumbo tubers than BF in weight and number on average with no significant difference in 2015–2017. TF and BF significantly had greater potato yield and irrigation water use efficiency than NF on average in Experiment 1, while no significant differences were found in Experiment 2. The transparent film was more beneficial to increase soil temperature and jumbo tubers than the black film. Film mulch functioned better for improving heat conditions and drip-irrigated potato growth in Northwest China than in Eastern China.

Abstract:
Hilltop features reported around the site of Paquimé, the political center of a prehistoric complex polity in northwest Chihuahua, Mexico, have been interpreted as a fire-signaling network by archaeologists. If these hilltop platform features functioned as such a communication system, it provides important information for our interpretation of regional integration and interaction for the Paquimé polity. This paper reports the results of a survey of hilltops in the area and a subsequent GIS-based intervisibility analysis, which determined that a series of hilltop platforms in the region were ideally situated for fire-signaling purposes. I discuss the need for implementing tests for intervisibility and tests for determining the significance of that intervisibility, and then consider some implications of the Paquimé fire-signaling system on sociopolitical organization and integration.

Abstract:
The article discusses the “additional” course of Buddhist education lam-rim, which was taught in the monasteries of Northwest China, Mongolia and Transbaikalia (19th – early 20th centuries). The databases of the Buddhist scholastic collection “Choira” of the Center of Oriental manuscripts and xylographs in the Institute of Mongolian Studies, Buddhology and Tibetology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMSBT SO RAN), as well as traditional bibliographic handbooks – “garchaks”, make it possible to understand that the texts of lam-rims are an integral part of the Buddhist book culture of this region. Our analysis has demonstrated that the study of this scholastic subject in the monasteries of Northwest China, Mongolia and Transbaikalia (19th – beginning 20th centuries) was based on a variedTibetan Buddhist literature from fundamental works of Indian classics to popular works of local scholastics. It is also necessary to emphasize that if to compare this section (lam-rim) of Tibetan scholastic literature “Choira” (in IMBT SB RAS) with the other sections (Pramana, Prajna-Paramita, Madhyamika Vinaya, Abhidharma) we find that the largest number of works of local authors are found in lam-rim. An important result of the research is the historical fact that the books of the Buryat monastic printing houses (Aga, Tsugol, Egita, Ana datsans of Trans-Baikal region) make it possible to understand the level of development of lam-rims literature in this region (19th – beginning 20th centuries) in the field of writing and publishing scholastic works in Northwest China, Mongolia and Transbaikalia. The study of authorship of lamrim texts stored in the IMBT SB RAS can confirm that, thanks to the works of representatives of these cross-border regions, a kind of Renaissance of Tibetan scholasticism took place in the Buddhist culture of the entire Inner Asia. A special role in this process was played by the Amdo, Mongolian and Buryat monasteries. It may be assumed that representatives of the historical Amdo region (the territory where Tibetans and Mongols lived together), Mongolia and Transbaikalia in these centuries created a culture of mass writing of Buddhist educational and philosophical literature.

In this study, nitrogen-vacancy center emissions from nanocone structures fabricated on diamond surfaces by gold film annealing and inductively coupled plasma etching techniques were characterized. First, the diamond substate deposited with gold film was annealed to form a nano-sized dot mask. Second, through inductively coupled plasma etching, nanocone-shaped structures were fabricated using optimized gold dots as masks. Finally, the as-fabricated nanocone and planar structures were investigated with photoluminescence experiments at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 80 K, with the results showing approximately two-fold higher emission values for nitrogen-vacancy centers from nanocones.

Abstract:
This paper systematically studies the distribution of macro-particles on the surface of film influenced by the substrate position under conditions of the same magnetic field, different pulsed bias voltage and reaction gas partial pressure, and analyzes the mechanism of macro-particles influenced by different parameters. This study indicates that the substrate position has a better effect on decreasing macro-particles than that of the pulsed bias voltage and particles in different substrate position are very different in their forms and appearances, which easily leads to uneven deposition; under the same bias, the number of particles firstly increases and then decreases with the increasing the distance from substrate position to the center, and the number of particles with over 2μm diameter largely decreases with the increasing the distance from substrate position to the center, so surface morphologies of films are improving; under the lower intensity of magnetic field, the distribution of macro-particles has a great change with the increasing the distance from substrate position to the center, and under the higher intensity of magnetic field, the substrate position has little influence on the distribution of macro-particles on the surface of film. Under the higher intensity (30G) of magnetic field, the distribution of macro-particles on the surface of film has minor change whatever reaction gas partial pressure and substrate position increase, and most particles are small in sizes and are solid spherical in shape. The higher intensity (30G) of magnetic field enhances the uniformity of film deposition and decreases the dependency of macro-particles distribution on other parameters.

Abstract:
Abstract A climatological and composite study of banded precipitation in the northeast United States during the cold season (October–April) is presented. Precipitation systems in the northeast United States in April 1995 and from October 1996 to April 2001 that exhibited greater than 25.4 mm (1 in.) of rainfall, or 12.7 mm (0.5 in.) liquid equivalent, were identified as cases for study. A total of 111 cases were identified during this period, of which 88 had available radar data. Of these cases, 75 exhibited banded structure whereas 13 did not. A band classification scheme was developed from a subset of study cases. Application of the classification scheme to the 88 cases revealed that banded cases can exhibit a variety of banded events during their evolution. Single-banded events were the most common (48), followed by transitory (40), narrow cold frontal (36), multi (29), and undefined (9). Further investigation of the single-banded events highlighted banded structure in the comma-head portion of storms, with 81% of these events exhibiting a majority of their length in the northwest quadrant of the surface cyclone. Composites were calculated for cases exhibiting single-banded events in the northwest quadrant of the surface cyclone and for nonbanded cases to distinguish synoptic and mesoscale flow regimes associated with banded events and nonbanded cases. The banded composite was marked by cyclogenesis and the development of a closed midlevel circulation. This flow configuration was associated with deformation and strong midlevel frontogenesis northwest of the surface cyclone center, which coincided with the mean band position. The nonbanded composite exhibited a much weaker cyclone located in the confluent entrance region of an upper-level jet. The absence of a closed midlevel circulation in the nonbanded composite limited deformation and associated frontogenesis northwest of the surface cyclone. Cross-section analysis through the respective composite frontogenesis maxima showed that the banded composite frontal zone exhibited stronger and deeper frontogenesis and weaker conditional stability than the nonbanded composite frontal zone. Case studies from the northeast United States confirm the composite results, highlighting the importance of deep-layer frontogenesis coincident with weak conditional stability. These results are in qualitative agreement with the Sawyer–Eliassen equation, which predicts that the frontogenetical response will be enhanced (reduced) in the presence of small (large) moist symmetric stability.

Abstract:
Silica waveguide planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology is driving the broad applications of various functional components to meet the increasing demands of the industry due to its advanced performance in large-scale wafer mass production. Despite the intense research interests in understanding and relaxing the stress causing the optical birefringence, not much research has been devoted to investigating the stress distribution. In this article, the thermal stress, growth-caused stress, and structural stress are comparably studied. The birefringence distribution of a 6 μm-thick SiO2 film from the center to the edge on a 6-inch silicon wafer was measured to be 0.0006 to 0.0038, leading to an equivalent stress distribution cross the wafer from −170 to −1000 MPa. This implies that the compressive stress of the thick SiO2 film on the wafer was nonuniformly distributed; however, it gradually increased from the center to the edge. Meanwhile, the measured stress of a SiO2 film decreased with the flow rate of the doped GeH4 gas. The algebraic sum of the above three stresses reached excellent agreement with the measurement results in both distribution form and amplitude. In both research and production, the agreeable optical property distributions between the theoretical calculations and experimental measurements are more sustainable to further improving the yields of SiO2 thick film PLC products.

Abstract:
Titanium substrate specimen was sputter-coated with SiC or CoCrNi-oxide thin film and the wear test was carried out by using a “ball-on-disk” testing machine. The semi-circular parallel cracks appeared on the film surface with the angles of 45 degree to the sliding direction of SiC ball and the delamination of film quickly occurred after cracking. In the same study we have discussed the reason of cracking and delamination in film by FEM [1], and made a special effort to the effect of friction coefficient on failure process of film in this paper. With the increase in friction coefficient the high-stress area of the maximum principal stress σ1 has the trend to move towards the central trail of back-contact-edge, while the positive minimum principal stress σ3 also appears at more extensive range, the higher friction coefficient causes the higher stresses and makes the cracking and delamination more easily, where the cracks can be initiated much more near the center trail.

Abstract:
Background. Malaria is a serious public health problem of most developing countries, including Ethiopia. The burden of malaria is severely affecting the economy and lives of people, particularly among the productive ages of rural society. Thus, this study was targeted to analyze the past five-year retrospective malaria data among the rural setting of Maygaba town, Welkait district, northwest Ethiopia. Methods. The study was done on 36,219 outpatients attending for malaria diagnosis during January 2015 to 2019. Data was extracted from the outpatient medical database. Chi-square ( χ 2 ) test and binary logistic regression model were used to analyze the retrospective data. Statistical significance was defined at p < 0.05 . Results. Of 36,219 outpatients examined, 7,309 (20.2%) malaria-positive cases were reported during 2015-2019. There was a fluctuating trend in the number of malaria-suspected and -confirmed cases in each year. Male slide-confirmed (61.4%, N = 4,485 ) were significantly higher than females (38.6%, N = 2,824 ) ( p < 005 ). Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax were the dominant parasites detected, which accounted for 66.1%; N = 4832 , 33.9%; N = 2477 , respectively. Despite the seasonal abundance of malaria cases, the highest prevalence was recorded in autumn (September to November) in the study area. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that statistically significant associations were observed between sexes, interseasons, mean seasonal rainfall, and mean seasonal temperature with the prevalence of P. vivax. However, P. falciparum has shown a significant association with interseasons and mean seasonal temperature. Conclusions. Although the overall prevalence of malaria was continually declined from 2015-2019, malaria remains the major public health problem in the study area. The severe species of P. falciparum was found to be the dominant parasite reported in the study area. A collaborative action between the national malaria control program and its partners towards the transmission, prevention, and control of the two deadly species is highly recommended.

Abstract:
In order to increase the working performance of a heavy constant flow hydrostatic center rest, a theoretical study concerning the lubricating oil film dynamic pressure effect of the heavy constant flow hydrostatic center rest is described. The Computational Fluid Dynamics and the Finite Volume Method have been used to compute numerically the static pressure field and the total pressure field of the lubricating oil film. The influences of spindle rotating rate, lubricating oil dynamic viscosity and inlet flow rate on the lubricating oil film dynamic pressure effect of the heavy constant flow hydrostatic center rest were analyzed based on the computational fluid dynamics and lubrication theory, and the influencing laws were revealed. By means of this method, the reasonable data can be provided for reasonably controlling dynamic pressure and structure optimal design of the heavy constant flow hydrostatic center rest.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the departures and arrivals of a group of Zoppolani, Italians from the northeast of Italy who travelled through Ellis Island to British Columbia in search of work between 1906 and 1923. Zoppola is a municipality located in the center west of the autonomous Friuli Venezia-Giulia Region in northeast Italy, and it is approximately 90 km northwest of Friuli Venezia-Giulia’s capital city of Trieste. It was one of many northern Italian towns from which migrants to North America originated. However, little is known of the considerable number of Zoppolani who left the area in the early 1900s and made their way to western Canada. This sample study examines the historical scholarship in the field, considers challenges posed by a variety of archival records and argues that an understanding of the local geography and history of both the comune of Zoppola and the province of British Columbia is essential to the overall interpretation of the emigrant history discussed.

Abstract:
The discussion of Shariah compliance in film provides the opportunity for the delivery of the message of da’wah (Islamic evangelism) through filmart. Nevertheless, the term sharia compliance in the film field is a newly discussed matter compared to sharia compliance in the banking system. Therefore, this study aims to analyze film audience’s perception towards the concept of sharia compliance. This study also examined the role of sharia compliance film as the medium of da’wah. It employed the phenomenology design that involved sampling with the aims to obtain study respondents. The 10 samples were UKM undergraduate and postgraduate Muslim students who like watching Malay films. The data were collected via focussed group discussion. This study employed constant comparative analysis in comparing data that convey meaning in answering the questions and objectives of the study. The findings showed that from the audience’s perception regarding sharia compliance, there were two categories of audience, which are negotiated reading and oppositional reading in interpreting meaning. The findings stated the respondents’ perception regarding the concept of sharia compliance that was discussed - ‘’Actions in film, socializing limit...the acting should preserve them but not too stiff...for example the scene where husband and wife sleeping together on a bed should be avoided. Frankly, the absent of such scene does not flaw the film.’’ The findings also found that the respondents agreed with the role of sharia compliance film as the medium of da’wah. It is hoped that this study contributes clarity to filmmakers regarding the concept of sharia compliance that could take center stage in da’wah film in Malaysia

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Adjusting to incarceration is traumatic. An under-utilized strategy understood to buffer and counteract the negative impacts of incarceration are nature interventions. OBJECTIVE: Outcomes of an interdisciplinary design studio course focused on developing masterplans for a women’s prison in the Pacific Northwest (US) are presented. Course objectives included comprehension and application of therapeutic and culturally expressive design principles to increase the benefits of environmental design within a carceral setting; collaboration, developing a deeper, more representative understanding of how design processes can improve the lives of marginalized populations; and enhancing design skills, including at masterplan and schematic scale using an iterative process and reflection. METHODS: A landscape architect, occupational therapist, and architect teaching team, with support from architects and justice specialists facilitated an elective design studio course to redesign the Washington Corrections Center for Women campus. RESULTS: In a ten-week academic quarter, six student design teams created conceptual masterplans for therapeutic outdoor spaces at the Washington Corrections Center for Women. Students presented their plans to prison staff, current and ex-offenders, and architects and landscape architects in practice, and then received positive feedback. CONCLUSION: Despite well-documented need for and value of nature interventions to improve health and wellbeing for everyone regardless of circumstance or situation, the project awaits administrative approval to move forward to installation.

Background: To report the prevalence of acquired symptomatic external punctal stenosis (EPS) in a tertiary referral center in Kuwait, and to study the associated risk factors, etiologies, and management outcomes. Methods: This prospective interventional hospital-based study was performed at the Farwaniya governmental hospital in Kuwait between November 2018 and November 2019. All patients were referred to the oculoplastic clinic with symptomatic epiphora, age > 18 years, epiphora Munk score ≥ 0, tear film meniscus ≥ 2 mm, and punctum with grade ≤ 2 (smaller than normal size, but recognizable EPS) were included. Exclusion criteria were congenital causes of epiphora, previous eyelid surgeries, and traumatic or neoplastic causes of punctal or canalicular obstruction. Results: A total of 418 patients with symptomatic epiphora, who were referred to our oculoplastic clinic, were enrolled in our study. The prevalence of EPS was 70.3%. Examination of the puncta revealed different shapes, including tangential, pinpoint, elevated, slit-shaped, horse shoe-shaped, and membranous puncta, with the tangential type accounting for the greatest proportion (65.3%). Bilateral punctal stenosis was observed in 206 patients (70.1%) and unilateral involvement in 88 patients (29.9%). Dilatation and syringing were performed for all puncta upon diagnosis, and repeated dilatation was performed for 225 puncta (32.7%). Placement of a Mini-Monoka tube was performed in 11 puncta (1.6%). Conclusions: EPS was a common cause of symptomatic epiphora in our study. Aging and female sex were identified as common risk factors. Most etiological factors of EPS were associated with a pathophysiological inflammatory mechanism. For exact estimates of its prevalence, a population-based study is necessary in future. Abstract:
The study of urban spatial structure is currently one of the most popular research fields in urban geography. This study uses Lanzhou, one of the major cities in Northwest China, as a case area. Using the industry classification of POI data, the nearest-neighbor index, kernel density estimation, and location entropy are adopted to analyze the spatial clustering-discrete distribution characteristics of the overall economic geographical elements of the city center, the spatial distribution characteristics of the various industry elements, and the overall spatial structure characteristics of the city. All of these can provide a scientific reference for the sustainable optimization of urban space. The urban economic geographical elements generally present the distribution trend of center agglomeration. In respect of spatial distribution, the economic geographical elements in the central urban area of Lanzhou have obvious characteristics of central agglomeration. Many industrial elements have large-scale agglomeration centers, which have formed specialized functional areas. There is a clear “central–peripheral” difference distribution in space, with an obvious circular structure. Generally, tertiary industry is distributed in the central area, and secondary industry is distributed in the peripheral areas. In general, a strip-shaped urban spatial structure with a strong main center, weak subcenter and multiple groups is present. Improving the complexity of urban functional space is an important goal of spatial structure optimization.

This work studies a numerical research undertaken to investigate the dynamic behaviors of porous squeeze film damper mounted a rotor considering longitudinal and transverse roughness effect under nonlinear suspension. The dynamic response of the rotor center and bearing center are studied. The analysis methods employed in this study are inclusive of the dynamic trajectories of the rotor center and bearing center, Poincaré maps and bifurcation diagrams. The maximum Lyapunov exponent analysis is also used to identify the onset of chaotic motion. The modeling results provide some useful insights into the design and development of rotor-bearing system for rotating machinery that operate in highly rotational speed and highly nonlinear regimes.

Abstract:
Possibilities and limitations in the biomechanical analysis of countermovement jump performance were examined using force plate data. Four male and 4 female sport students participated in the study. Software designed to test jumping performance was used to evaluate recordings from a force plate and to compute net velocity and net displacement measures for the center of gravity. In parallel, a film analysis incorporating Dempster's center of gravity model was used for a comparison. Validity of the computed kinetic measures was evaluated with a general analysis of the major error sources including the data acquisition and numerical computations. Numerical integration procedures were found to be a reasonable tool for calculating net velocity and net displacement parameters for a more detailed analysis of athletic jumping performance. On the other hand, it appeared that Dempster-like center of gravity models can cause errors that disqualify their use as validation criteria for kinetic parameters.

Abstract:
Background Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a neglected tropical disease endemic to several countries including Ethiopia. Outside of Africa, kidney involvement in VL is frequent and associated with increased mortality. There is however limited data on acute kidney injury (AKI) in VL patients in East-Africa, particularly in areas with high rates of HIV co-infection. This study aims to determine the prevalence, characteristics and associated factors of AKI in VL patients in Northwest Ethiopia. Methods A hospital based retrospective patient record analysis was conducted including patients treated for VL from January 2019 to December 2019 at the Leishmaniasis Research and Treatment Center (LRTC), Gondar, Ethiopia. Patients that were enrolled in ongoing clinical trials at the study site and those with significant incomplete data were excluded. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. P values were considered significant if < 0.05. Results Among 352 VL patients treated at LRTC during the study period, 298 were included in the study. All were male patients except two; the median age was 23 years (IQR: 20–27). The overall prevalence of AKI among VL patients was 17.4% (confidence interval (CI): 13.6%-22.2%). Pre-renal azotemia (57%) and drug-induced AKI (50%) were the main etiologies of AKI at admission and post-admission respectively. Proteinuria and hematuria occurred in 85% and 42% of AKI patients respectively. Multivariate logistic regression revealed HIV co-infection (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 6.01 95% CI: 1.99–18.27, p = 0.001) and other concomitant infections (AOR: 3.44 95% CI: 1.37–8.65, p = 0.009) to be independently associated with AKI. Conclusion AKI is a frequent complication in Ethiopian VL patients. Other renal manifestations included proteinuria, hematuria, and pyuria. HIV co-infection and other concomitant infections were significantly associated with AKI. Further studies are needed to quantify proteinuria and evaluate the influence of AKI on the treatment course, morbidity and mortality in VL patients.

Abstract:
Epitaxial CoO/NiO multilayers and alloys have been produced which show interesting structural and magnetic properties. Typically, epitaxial films are grown either by chemical vapor deposition or evaporation. However, sputtering can also yield high quality epitaxial films. The structure of the substrate and the interface of the film/substrate are critical factors to determine the quality of the epitaxial film. The CoO/NiO epitaxial films on the α-Al2O3 had been studied extensively in our previous work. In this paper, the heteroepitaxial interface in the Ni.50Co.50O/Al2MgO4 is studied by using high resolution electron microscopy. Transmission electron microscopy was performed using the JEOL-200CX and JEOL-ARM1000 microscopes at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, Berkeley.

Abstract:
Parasitic diseases are among the most important infectious diseases and pose health problems in many countries, most especially in developing countries. Workers at food centers could transmit parasitic infections in the absence of sanitation. This is a descriptive study conducted to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections in food clerks in the city of Tabriz in 2014. Data was recorded in the offices of the health center for all food handlers who were referred to the laboratory for demographic and stool tests to receive the health card. Parasitic infection was observed in 172 cases (3.73%) of 4612 samples. A total of 156 positive samples (90.69%) were related to protozoa and 16 (9.3%) were related to helminthes. Most of the parasitic infections were related toGiardiaandEntamoeba coliand the lowest infection was related toH. nana. Also, there was a significant relationship between level of education and parasitic infection rate (P=0.0044). But there was no significant difference between the type of infection and amount of intestinal parasites. The results show that the prevalence of intestinal parasites, especially pathogenic protozoa, is common in some food handlers. Therefore, more sanitary controls are required and increasing of education will play a crucial role in improving the health of these people.
