December 1989, Romania – a culture steeped in secrecy-fuelled paranoia is reflected in the family of six-year-old Adam Stan, whose father is missing and no one concedes to even talk about it. In the first of two sections of 2, a novel, through the eyes of Adam the child, the narrative explores the fall of Ceaușescu's regime and the incandescent bouts of hope brought on by the first Romanian democratic summer, but overshadowed by the presence of an absent father. Sound-symbolism is the inherent link between the sound of a word and its meaning. The aim of this thesis is to gain an insight into the nature of sound-symbolism. There are five empirical chapters, each of which aims to uncover children and adults’ understanding of sound-symbolic words. Chapter 1 is a literature review of sound-symbolism. Chapter 2 is a cross-linguistic developmental study looking at the acquisition of sound-symbolism. Chapter 3 looks at childrens use of sound-symbolism in a verb-learning task. The purpose of this study was to test this prediction behaviorally, using a within subject repeated measures design to control for other variables affecting semantic word learning. Abstract:
N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) are family of lipid-derived signaling molecules in many organisms, which include an endocannabinoid N-arachidonoylethanolamide (anandamide, AEA, NAE 20:4). NAEs, specifically AEA plays pivotal role in mammalian neurological and physiological functions; however their metabolism and functional implications in plants are yet to be fully discovered. Unlike seed plants, bryophytes possess unique fatty acid composition that includes 20:4 and 20:5, which prompted our search for endocannabinods in moss Physcomitrella patens. To this extent, we used targeted lipidomic analyse
