Abstract:

Shifu, harías cualquier cosa por divertirte es una novela breve de sesenta páginas escrita por Mo Yan, el primer Premio Nobel de literatura chino reconocido por el gobierno de China. Aunque la mayoría de sus obras son novelas largas, en esta novela corta consigue reflejar de manera resumida el devenir de la China del siglo pasado haciendo gala de tramas conflictivas rebosantes de sátira y humor negro. Nuestro objetivo principal es el estudio de los chengyu más utilizados en dicha novela. Los chengyu constituyen expresiones idiomáticas chinas con un formato reducido, aproximadamente de cuatro caracteres. Asimismo, entre los principales objetivos de este trabajo se encuentra el estudio de las principales técnicas de traducción aplicadas, la situación de los textos literarios chinos traducidos dentro del sistema literario y, por último, el análisis de la traducción al inglés y al español de la obra de Mo Yan.

Abstract:

Amy Tan, autora representativa de la literatura chinoamericana, logró abrir al público chino la puerta que conduce al mundo maravilloso en que viven los seres in-between. En este trabajo, estudiaremos la retrotraducción a la cultura china de The Joy Luck Club, novela más exitosa de la misma autora, comparando sus tres versiones chinas con el fin de analizar las distintas estrategias traslativas que adoptan las traductoras: mantener lo distintivo de la cultura chinoamericana con el fin de hacer a los lectores chinos tener en cuenta la diferencia que existe entre la cultura chinoamericana y la china o preservar la pureza de la cultura china, omitiendo o corrigiendo lo que no le parece “auténtico” a la traductora desde un punto de vista tradicional china.

Abstract:

En el presente artículo presentamos previamente la caracterización y clasificación de la fraseología china para abordar a continuación los problemas que plantea su traducción al español, ejemplificados en el caso de la versión realizada por Fisac (1992) de la novela china de Qian Zhongshu (1947), citada en el título del presente trabajo. Por tanto, el objetivo último de nuestra investigación es reflexionar sobre las ventajas e inconvenientes de las estrategias o procedimientos empleados para trasladar las unidades fraseológicas del chino al español, con el fin de hallar las técnicas más apropiadas para la traducción fraseológica entre ambos idiomas. En definitiva, este estudio puede servir de guía para indagar más profundamente en futuros análisis de binomios textuales de gran envergadura.

En este artículo reflexionaremos, a través de la lectura Bansheng yuan, la primera novela larga de Zhang Ailing (Eileen Chang), sobre la situación de la mujer china en las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Con el análisis de los tres principales personajes femeninos nos centraremos en destacar dos aspectos que, a pesar de haber avanzado en la teoría, seguían lastrando la posición de la mujer en la práctica: la falta de independencia laboral y el matrimonio.

Con tal fin, se analizan la novela <em>El pájaro: pincel y tinta china</em> (1998) de Ena Lucía Portela y la antología de cuentos <em>Ofelias</em> (2009) de Aida Bahr. Partiendo de la suposición que los discursos oficiales socialistas silencian la violencia de género en Cuba, se argumenta que las mencionadas obras literarias crean un contra-discurso y exponen no solo la realidad de la violencia de género, sino también el silencio social que la rodea. Se demuestra, además, que las descripciones explícitas de tal silencio cumplen una función subversiva en esta novela y antología.</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This article intents to explore representations of gender violence in contemporary Cuban women’s fiction. A partir de la década de 1980, el autor de Cien años de soledad se convirtió en el gran ídolo y fuente de “angustia de las influencias” (en términos de Harold Bloom) para toda una generación de escritores chinos: Jia Pingwa, Yu Hua, Su Tong, Yan Lianke, Ma Yuan y Mo Yan, entre otros. En este artículo se propone una lectura paralela de Gabriel García Márquez y Mo Yan, el premio nobel chino, con el propósito de demostrar que el realismo mágico latinoamericano y su aventura en China ha formado parte de la historia de la literatura contemporánea del país asiático: a los escritores chinos no solo les avivó su memoria y les hizo adoptar otra actitud hacia su pasado; también les mostró el camino para escribir un nuevo tipo de novela (noveau roman).

Con base en que en el hecho de que existen narraciones sobre las que se sustentan las configuraciones de las naciones (Benedict Anderson), este trabajo analiza la propuesta de la novela Las aventuras de la China Iron de revisar sobre qué narración se han edificado ciertas nociones de “lo argentino”, particularmente en cuanto a las construcciones de los géneros hombre y mujer. Para llevar a cabo tal análisis, este trabajo se divide en dos grandes partes: la primera es una revisión sobre masculinidades y género en el Martín Fierro —el texto fundacional de Argentina—, y la segunda se trata de un estudio de las propuestas que la novela de Cabezón Cámara lleva a cabo para dislocar los conceptos de nación, masculinidades y autoría, que se gatillan en la obra de José Hernández y que, a través de distintas operaciones convenientes al status quo, se fueron osificando en aquel país.

A China esteve no centro das atenções do Ocidente durante o Oitocentos. Talvez,por isso, na literatura ocidental oitocentista, a imagem do ‘mandarim’, representação,por vezes estereotipada, do chinês que detinha prestígio político, econômicoou cultural em seu país de origem é constante. Em Portugal, por exemplo, foi publicadano Diário de Portugal, em 1880, a novela O Mandarim de Eça de Queirós. Jáno Brasil, foi encenada no Rio de Janeiro, quatro anos mais tarde, a peça igualmenteintitulada O Mandarim, escrita por Artur Azevedo e Moreira Sampaio. Abstract:

Este artículo parte de la perspectiva del materialismo posthumano, una línea de investigación que asume el presente como un contexto postantropocéntrico y postnatural en el que se ha vuelto indispensable volver a considerar las diversas lógicas de existencia que pueblan la Tierra. Es decir, se trata de pensar el espacio post/inhumano que se abre con la interacción, la hibridación y la co-emergencia de todo lo existente en la que los actores humanos están presentes pero no ya en el centro de la acción, sino en una mezcla de agencialidades diversas. En esta oportunidad se presentará una lectura de Las aventuras de la China Iron, de Gabriela Cabezón Cámara (2017), desde una estética materialista posthumana. Por un lado, en la medida en que la narradora es un animal humano, la novela será entendida como una descripción horizontal y no jerárquica del lugar de la “humanidad” en el planeta; y, por el otro, como la exploración de las mutuamente contaminadas potencias de actuar, pensar y sentir de lo existente en general: lo animal, lo vegetal y lo mineral no ya taxonomizados en reinos sino mezclados en el “compost” sin alambrado, ingobernable y fértil que podría ser el “desierto” argentino. De esta forma, en tanto que reescritura del Martín Fierro, texto considerado fundacional de la identidad nacional argentina, la novela de Cabezón Cámara podría ser la fabulación de una “matria” queer y holoéntica que alberga criaturas de múltiples especies y reinos.

La presente investigación indaga sobre el vínculo histórico entre China y Perú que dataría del año 1590, donde los primeros ciudadanos chinos llegarían al Puerto del Callao y a partir de aquel momento ellos establecerían su domicilio en las costas del Pacífico, dando a conocer su cultura el cual se ha venido construyendo y cultivando dentro de las costumbres peruanas. El año 1590 Perú, se encontraba bajo el dominio de los españoles, quienes establecieron el Virreynato Central de España en Lima, conocida como la ciudad de los Reyes. Del mismo modo, se desea brindar datos históricos de la travesía de la primera mujer mestiza llamada Isabel Barreto, quién partió del puerto del Callao de Perú rumbo al Continente de Asia, atravesando el Océano Pacífico con una embarcación de 380 personas a bordo, novela histórica narrada por el diplomático peruano Ernesto Pinto Bazurco Rittler. Por otro lado, también está la historia sobre la travesía de Tupac Inca Yupanqui, quién llegó a Polinesia un siglo antes, que Isabel Barreto.

Abstract:

El objetivo que perseguimos aquí es analizar, cuantitativa y cualitativamente, dos traducciones mediante la herramienta WordSmith Tools con el objetivo de lograr datos estadísticos sobre la riqueza léxica, el número de letras por palabras y el promedio de la longitud de las oraciones. Para ello, vamos a trabajar con las traducciones al inglés y al español de la novela contemporánea傾城之戀 (Qing cheng zhi lian), de la autora china Eileen Chang. Compararemos el estilo de las tres especialistas que han llevado a cabo dichas traducciones: Karen S. Kingsbury de la versión inglesa y Anne-Hélène Suárez y Xianghong Qu de la versión española. El eje central del presente trabajo es defender la idea de que dar explicaciones acerca del sentido original facilitaría la lectura del texto, ya que se comprenderían fácilmente las palabras y se conocería su significado completo.

Abstract:

El objetivo principal de este trabajo consiste en estudiar el fenómeno de explicitación en las traducciones al español de las novelas Shanghai baby y Casada con Buda, de Wei Hui (1973) —integrante de la “última generación” de escritores chinos, considerada pionera en su tratamiento audaz de temas tabú—, así como la relación entre los diferentes métodos de explicitación generados por los contextos particulares de los traductores. Para estudiar el corpus de los elementos explicitados en las traducciones, acudimos a la metodología descriptiva, aplicando las propuestas traductológicas tanto de la cultura (Witte, 1987; Pym, 1993; Nord, 2001) como de la explicitación (Klaudy, 1998; Hurtado, 2001: 268–271; Englund, 2005: 34; Heltai, 2005: 65–66). Constatamos que, pese a tratarse de dos obras de la misma escritora, los traductores / intérpretes académicos y los traductores de novelas populares utilizan estilos divergentes de traducción en cada una.

Fans of Jiang Rong’s Wolf Totem could arguably shapeshift into a wolf’s fangs, the sharp tips of China’s Social Darwinism today. Jiang mourns the killing of Mongolian wolves, erecting a literary totem there after wolves are gone. An elegy for the wild comes to justify the growing of fangs amid the jungle of the socialist-capitalist market. Wolf totem becomes a phallic symbol for power. A Sino-Anglo-Euro morphing materializes in global cinema as Annaud transforms the novel into The Last Wolf. Annaud’s romantic film downplays Jiang’s nationalistic tenor, avoiding to bare “red [in] tooth and claw” to the world.Resumen Los fans de Wolf Totem de Jiang Rong podrían discutiblemente transformarse en los colmillos de un lobo, las afiladas puntas del darwinismo social en China hoy en día. Jiang lamenta la muerte de los lobos mongoles, erigiendo un tótem literario allí tras la marcha de los lobos. Una elegía a los salvaje llega a justificar el crecimiento de colmillos en medio de la jungla del mercado socialista-capitalista. El tótem del lobo se convierte en un símbolo fálico de poder. Un Changling sino-anglo-europeo de algún tipo se materializa en el cine global cuando Annaud transforma la novela en El último lobo. La romántica película de Annaud resta importancia al tono nacionalista de Jiang, evitando mostrar "rojo [en] diente y garra" al mundo.

Abstract:

Blastocystis sp., a unicellular intestinal parasite in humans and animals worldwide, is frequently found in immunocompromized patients and people in close contact with animals. Here, we reviewed recent studies on the prevalence, subtypes, and distribution of Blastocystis infection in humans and animals in China. To date, more than 12 provinces have reported Blastocystis infection in humans, with identification of six different subtypes (ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5, and ST6). The overall infection rate reported was 3.37% (3625/107,695), with the lowest prevalence (0.80%) in Fujian province and the highest prevalence (100%) in Guangdong province. ST3 (62%, 186/300) was the most dominant subtype, identified in all tested provinces in China. A total of eight provinces have reported Blastocystis infection in various animals, with the overall prevalence being 24.66% (1202/4874). Molecular analysis revealed 14 subtypes that infected animals, including 10 known (ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5, ST6, ST7, ST10, ST13, ST14), and 4 novel (Novel1, Novel2, Novel3, Novel4) subtypes. ST5 was the dominant subtype infecting artiodactyls (44.1%, 460/1044), while ST1 commonly infected carnivores (45.5%, 5/11). These findings provide insights into the epidemiological behavior of Blastocystis sp. in China, and could help in developing effective control strategies against the parasite.

Abstract:

Background Deformed wing virus (DWV) is one of many viruses that infect honeybees and has been extensively studied because of its close association with honeybee colony collapse that is induced by Varroa destructor. However, virus genotypes, sequence characteristics, and genetic variations of DWV remain unknown in China. Methods Two DWV strains were isolated from Jinzhou and Qinhuangdao cities in China, and were named China1-2017 (accession number: MF770715) and China2-2018 (accession number: MH165180), respectively, and their complete genome sequences were analyzed. To investigate the phylogenetic relationships of the DWV isolates, a phylogenetic tree of the complete open reading frame (ORF), structural protein VP1, and non-structural protein 3C+RdRp of the DWV sequences was constructed using the MEGA 5.0 software program. Then, the similarity and recombinant events of the DWV isolated strains were analyzed using recombination detection program (RDP4) software and genetic algorithm for recombination detection (GARD). Results The complete genomic analysis showed that the genomes of the China1-2017 and China2-2018 DWV strains consisted of 10,141 base pairs (bp) and 10,105 bp, respectively, and contained a single, large ORF (China1-2017: 1,146–9,827 bp; China2-2018: 1,351–9,816 bp) that encoded 2,894 amino acids. The sequences were compared with 20 previously reported DWV sequences from different countries and with sequences of two closely related viruses, Kakugo virus (KV) and V. destructor virus-1. Multiple sequence comparisons revealed a nucleotide identity of 84.3–96.7%, and identity of 94.7–98.6% in amino acids between the two isolate strains and 20 reference strains. The two novel isolates showed 96.7% nucleotide identity and 98.1% amino acid identity. The phylogenetic analyses showed that the two isolates belonged to DWV Type A and were closely related to the KV-2001 strain from Japan. Based on the RDP4 and GARD analyses, the recombination of the China2-2018 strain was located at the 4,266–7,507 nt region, with Korea I-2012 as an infer unknown parent and China-2017 as a minor parent, which spanned the entire helicase ORF. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to the complete sequence of DWV isolated from Apis cerana and the possible DWV recombination events in China. Our findings are important for further research of the phylogenetic relationship of DWVs in China with DWV strains from other countries and also contribute to the understanding of virological properties of these complex DWV recombinants.

Abstract:

The ‘novel of the future’ speculates on the ‘temporal’ utopia/dystopia. Its strange fate in modern China reveals much about the relationship between imagination, ideology and modernity in the Chinese mindset. Prior to the concept of modernity being imported into China there had been no fiction about the future. For, in traditional China, history did not have directionality. Two powerful Western ideologies, both ‘progressive’, took turns to dominate modern China. Social Darwinism led to the great explosion of the novel of the future in the early twentieth century. From the 1920s onwards, with Marxism becoming the dominant ideology, the novel of the future disappeared completely: when the future was predetermined, no speculation was to be tolerated. In the 1990s, there erupted another spectacular flourishing of novels of future in China, although these works are pessimistic in tone, as belief in the future has been thrown into serious doubt.

The article explores the motif of love in a totalitarian society in Anchee Min’s novel “Wild Ginger”. Though an American citizen, Anchee Min belongs to a group of modern Chinese-American writers whose interests focus around the past of her home country China. Childhood and teenage years which Min spent in Communist China provided her with a lot of material for her later novels. In Wild Ginger through a classic plot of love triangle the writer approaches the motif of love in the times of Cultural Revolution. The author examines love as a relationship between a man and a woman, and as a religious feeling and communist ideology. Grotesque becomes the main literary device. Over-exaggeration bordering on incredibility expresses the author’s rejection of the surrounding reality. Intertwining comical and tragical situations, the novels brings the reader to a conclusion that love is the only means of attainting personal freedom and maturity in a totalitarian society.

This paper observes the struggle for life of East Asia people that was portrayed in the novel The Good Earth. The Good Earth is also portrayal of a true account experienced by its author, Pearl S Buck. She got inspiration from the life of farmer in China. She wrote this novel using the original name as the main character. Those names are Wang Lung and O Lan. They are couple and their life is on farm. The objectives of this study are to find the pragmatic and sociological aspects of the Novel. This research applies content analysis approach to understand the pragmatic and sociological life in Chinese society, especially in the novel. The finding of the study shows that the utterances in the novel reflect various speech acts i.e. expressive, assertive, commisive, persuasive, directive, and phatic. In the sociological aspect, the life of rural people in Chine is somewhat similar with that of in Indonesia. Otherwise, rural people have life style in common i.e. working hard, struggle for life, defending their belonging, and loving the nature. Keywords: pragmatic analysis; sociological perspective; Good Earth.

Immediately drawn to the stories and novels it carried, Sun soon concluded that Western fiction had the unique strength of imparting knowledge and expanding rational capacity: 「觀西人政治小說，可以悟政治原理；觀科學小說，可以通種種格物原理；觀包探小說，可以覘西國人情土俗及其居心之險詐詭變，有非我國所能及者」 (“Political novels teach us principles of politics; scientific novels teach us theories of things; detective novels show us Western customs and treachery, which often surpass ours”; 690). Immersed in a culture where vernacular novels had been suppressed by official censorship and prejudice among the elites, Sun ardently embraced translated fiction. By contrast, vernacular Chinese novels, with few exceptions, seemed to him routinely 「陳腐」 (“decadent”), providing no more than 「排遣」 (“diversion and entertainment”; 677, 690) The perceived rationality of Western fiction gave him a sudden license to seriously engage with a genre that the literary culture in China continued to exclude well into the twentieth century. Abstract:

Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is an economically significant swine infectious agent. A PRV outbreak took place in China in 2011 with novel virulent variants. Although the association of viral genomic variability with pathogenicity is not fully confirmed, the knowledge concerning PRV genomic diversity and evolution is still limited. Here, we sequenced 54 genomes of novel PRV variants isolated in China from 2012 to 2017. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that China strains and US/Europe strains were classified into two separate genotypes. PRV strains isolated from 2012 to 2017 in China are highly related to each other and genetically close to classic China strains such as Ea, Fa, and SC. RDP analysis revealed 23 recombination events within novel PRV variants, indicating that recombination contributes significantly to the viral evolution. The selection pressure analysis indicated that most ORFs were under evolutionary constraint, and 19 amino acid residue sites in 15 ORFs were identified under positive selection. Additionally, 37 unique mutations were identified in 19 ORFs, which distinguish the novel variants from classic strains. Overall, our study suggested that novel PRV variants might evolve from classical PRV strains through point mutation and recombination mechanisms.
