ABSTRACTA long-term radio frequency interference monitoring program is now in progress at the Ohio State University Radio Observatory. Current observations encompass the 1-2 GHz band, measuring the signal strength in each 150 KHz subband. Preliminary results show many strong and persistent signals, and wide bands in which no signals are detected. Daily and weekly variations appear to be correlated with periods of maximum human activity such as “rush hours”. It may be that aircraft reflections are causing many of the signals to be received, and that airline schedules correlate with “rush hours”

AbstractLoops are inductive constructs, which make them difficult to analyze and verify in general. One approach is to represent the inductive behaviors of the program variables in a loop by recurrences and try to solve them for closed-form solutions. These solutions can then be used to generate invariants or directly fed into an SMT-based verifier. One problem with this approach is that if a loop contains nondeterministic choices or complex operations such as non-linear assignments, then recurrences for program variables may not exist or may have no closed-form solutions. The fundamental concept involves replenishing drained spaces to maintain system pressure, although the complexity arises in reservoirs filled with heterogeneities. Beyond pressure preservation, waterflooding also enhances production through efficient sweeping. The success of waterflooding hinges on the dual metrics of pressure maintenance and production rate. Abstract:
Abstract Introduction The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity’s (IARPA) Space Debris Identification and Tracking (SINTRA) program seeks to understand the interaction of orbital space debris with the surrounding space environment to determine if this interaction can be used for detecting, characterizing, and tracking potentially lethal, currently non-trackable orbital space debris [1]. Here, we show that non-thermal electromagnetic (NTEM) radiation generated by space debris colliding with each other at hypervelocity, defined as a relative speed larger than the speed of sound in the

Abstract:
This report presents findings from data collected through the Reality Now program, providing a long-term study exploring tobacco and vaping behaviours among Australian secondary school students. Conducted from 2018 to 2024, the program collected nearly 30,000 responses from students in Years 7 to 11. Using a social norms approach (SNA), the program aimed to identify and correct misperceptions about peer substance use and promote healthier behaviours. This report focuses on tobacco and vaping behaviours, whereas the broader program also examined the use of alcohol, cannabis, and MDMA. The findi

This study's third phase evaluates the regulatory impact analysis (RIA) of policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the Philippine Retirement Authority's (PRA) retirement program, focusing on competitiveness and sustainability. Utilizing methodologies such as benefit-cost analysis, breakeven analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and regression analysis, the study compares targeting foreign retirees aged 40 and above with those aged 50 and above, assesses the cost-effectiveness of current PRA policies, and determines breakeven volumes. Findings reveal that lowering the minimum retirement age

In May 2012, the RAM Program completed a comprehensive flight test to evaluate the performance of airborne sensor technologies for detecting machinery threats on pipeline ROWs. The field trials were conducted on an operating pipeline Right Of Way (ROW) to provide realistic conditions for assessing the capabilities and limitations of automated systems that are currently available or are under development for identifying and reporting machinery encroachment. Now in its 7th year, the TODO Group's 2024 Open Source Program Office (OSPO) study explores the evolving role of OSPOs, comparing enterprises of different sizes. This report highlights OSPO benefits, challenges, and projected growth, in comparison with data from previous years to understand how these findings are trending. Key findings show that although 77% of large organizations have an OSPO, only 19% of small organizations have one. Implementing an OSPO is key for awareness of open source software use and dependencies, and they can improve license compliance and increased transparency. The

This report describes several advances in the cyclic failure assessment of silt soils with immediate and practical benefit to the geotechnical earthquake engineering profession. First, a database of cyclic loading test data is assembled, evaluated, and used to assess trends in the curvature of the CRR-N (cyclic resistance ratio - the number of equivalent cycles) relationship. This effort culminated in a plasticity index-dependent function which can be used to estimate the exponent b in the power law describing cyclic resistance, and may be used to estimate the cyclic resistance of silt soils a

Abstract:
There is growing consensus that an emerging skill gap could impose human costs and constraints on Cambodia’s economic growth and development. The country is facing a shortage of skilled human resources even for low-to-medium skill intensive industries. There is a widening gap between the skills that industries and businesses need and what the education institutions, whether academic or vocational training, are producing. Cambodia’s skill gap is emerging at a time when the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is preparing to launch the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. The AEC w

Abstract:
Understanding housing affordability is key to addressing the housing problem. This study evaluates housing affordability in the Philippines using conventional approaches. It compares Residual Income Method estimates with those from the 30 percent of income standard that is commonly used as a measure of housing affordability in the country. The authors note that the 30 percent of income standard overestimates housing affordability among the poor and underestimates among those in the upper income levels relative to the Residual Income Method. In other words, the poor and low-income households ar

Abstract:
High-level action programming languages such as Golog have successfully been used to model the behavior of autonomous agents. In addition to a logic-based action formalism for describing the environment and the effects of basic actions, they enable the construction of complex actions using typical programming language constructs. To ensure that the execution of such complex actions leads to the desired behavior of the agent, one needs to specify the required properties in a formal way, and then verify that these requirements are met by any execution of the program. The objectives of this project were to develop nondestructive methods for detection of internal properties and firmness of fruits and vegetables. One method was based on a soft piezoelectric film transducer developed in the Technion, for analysis of fruit response to low-energy excitation. The second method was a dot-matrix piezoelectric transducer of North Carolina State University, developed for contact-pressure analysis of fruit during impact. Two research teams, one in Israel and the other in North Carolina, coordinated their research effort according to the specific objectives of the proj
