Abstract:
This assessment refers to the ecological footprint which is a way to measure the impacts of human activities on Earth. It basically calculates the demand and consumption that measures the needs of a society, as well as the waste and greenhouse gases that generates daily in productive sea and fertile land areas. Moreover, it measures all the natural resources needed to support the material needs of a population or person through the technology, lifestyle and habits of each country. Subsequently we are going to examine the advantages and disadvantages of the phenomenon that human activities provoke and the ways to eliminate the caused problem. The world-average ecological footprint in 2013 was 2.8 global hectares per person and the average per country ranges from over 10 to under 1 global hectares per person. There is also a high variation within countries, based on individual lifestyle and economic possibilities that we also examine. Summarizing all those effects we are going to analyze open international data as far as the metabolism of the ecological footprint concerns in our word but especially in our country to form prospects for our planet the principles of life cycle assessments with the aid of statistics and charts.

Abstract:
Human needs have their own hierarchy and are significantly dependent on the lifestyle of the individual. They are also culturally conditioned. The satisfaction of one’s needs determines the level of human existence and location of a person in social structures as well as individual preferences. Taking care of the body, in our world, can be understood in two ways. On the one hand it is a socially postulated custom encouraging to participate in a physical culture and on the other hand it is an act of individual choice. The latter marks the attitude towards physical affection as a need. Body kindness must be taught by showing its value. This is to be done, among others, by physical education as an organised pedagogical process.

For most of us languages aren't all that easy to use, or learn – whether we have been born into one or several languages, or have to learn one or more ‘alien’ languages, with alien writing systems. This may just be part of the general hurly-burly of life, and is certainly the usual way of things in, say, India, Nigeria and the Philippines, or it may happen in the comparative calm of classroom and library (nowadays widely regarded as the ‘proper’ way to learn languages, even if it is not always the most effective). The first of these is, as it were, the ‘marketplace’ tradition (learning as you go), the second the ‘monastery’ tradition (classrooms, timetables, exams, and accreditation).

The article considers the phenomenon ofChinese ornamental art, called “jianzhi”. Well-being in symbols of this art, Chinese paper-cutting, comes from ornamental figures, and they, in turn, reflect national mythological and religious ideas, life style and reality. It is a universal language of national mentality. Ancient Chinese with special attitude created paper compositions, because they believedthat it is an amulet. That’s why their semantics is so different and deep to take the paper-cutting works, also famous as “paper-lace” as national pride, which continue its development nowadays. All this allows claiming that this unique type of folk art, continuing the active development in various forms in the modern world, became recognizable "logo" of China.

Abstract:
Nowadays, death, illness, and suffering are experienced as danger: a threat to one’s own physical, psychological and social identity. And what accompanies all these, particularly paralizing from a spiritual perspective, is fear; the dread that all is lost, that things cannot be controlled by means of medicine, only to reach the greatest angst: the fear of death. And, in this respect, we can say that pain, suffering and the fear of death make up the anthropological foundation of the most profound religious concept of life, in the sense that these realities show man his limitations, his finite build, that of a creature, and, consequently, determine him look beyond his limitations. The fear of death brought about angst, anxiety, passion, hatred, and despair in man’s life. His need to escape death made him look for even more material elements to render him oblivious to it. The solution against despair is God: faith vanquishes despair because, by faith, man acknowledges his dependence on God, but turning within himself, at the same time.

Abstract:
The aim of the present research is to demonstrate the solitude, the lack of comunication and the uncertainty of the relationships in our contemporary world. In order to show this, we did a detailed study of the characters and of the symbolic speech presented in A gata e a fábula written by Fernanda Botelho and Exílio, written by Lya Luft. The historical context of the novels is, coincidently, the dictatorship which happened in Portugal and in Brazil, but this fact does not appear clearly in these novels, because their main focus is to show the woman\'s situation facing a strict and patriarchal society. Both novels show the woman in search of ber identity in a society in which she always had a lower position.

Berkel, Klaas, and Guus Termeer. The University of Groningen in the World. NL Amsterdam: Amsterdam University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5117/9789085551249.

Abstract:
The University of Groningen has been an international university since its foundation in 1614. The first professors formed a rich international community, and many students came from outside the Netherlands, especially from areas now belonging to Germany. Internationalization, a popular slogan nowadays, is therefore nothing new, but its meaning has changed over time. How did the University of Groningen grow from a provincial institution established for religious reasons into a top-100 university with 36,000 students, of whom 25% come from abroad and almost half of the academic staff is of foreign descent? What is the identity of this four-century-old university that is still strongly anchored in the northern part of the Netherlands but that also has a mind that is open to the world? The history of the university, as told by Klaas van Berkel and Guus Termeer, ends with a short paragraph on the impact of the corona crisis.

Abstract:
The present book faces a wide range of problems concerning the history of Eastern slavic culture in its interation with cultural models, typical of Western Europe. This collective work is the final result of the french-italian congress “Fractures and Integrations between Russia, East Slavic world and the West. History and literary civilisation from the Middle Age to the Contemporary Era” (University of Florence, 16-17 april 2015): the complexity of cultural relations between Russia, Slavic East and European West is analysed enhancing the variety of points of view and benefiting of different methodological approaches as well as from perspectives, provided from different fields of study. Here we introduce new materials and new analytical methods, which are useful for studying the complex interactions between the western cultural tradition and the east oriental one, from Middle Age up to nowadays. The “fractures” and “integrations” are therefore highlighted throughout the reading or critical re-reading of textes, works and authors, who took part to the construction and the development of cultural interchange among the various european areas.

Abstract:
The word media hype is often used as rhetorical argument to dismiss waves of media attention as overblown, disproportional and exaggerated. But these explosive news waves, as well as - nowadays - the twitter storms, are object of scientific research, because they are an important phenomenon in the public area. Sometimes it is indeed 'much ado about nothing' but in many cases these media storms have play an important role in political issues, scandals and crises. Twitter storms sometimes ruin reputations within hours. Although different concepts are used, such as media hypes, news waves, media storms, information cascades or risk amplification, all the studies in this book refer to the same process in which key events trigger a chain of reactions and interactions, building up huge news waves in the media or rapidly spreading social epidemics in the social media. This book offers the first comprehensive overview of this important topic. It is not only interesting for scholars and students in media and journalism, but also for professionals in PR and communication, crisis communication and reputation management.

Abstract:
This chapter systematically surveys conceptual frameworks (models) that have been suggested to identify similarities between World Englishes and to classify them accordingly. The earliest suggestions along these lines were static models, which either worked out historically based relationships between national varieties, having branched off in a family-tree-like manner, or classified countries based on whether English is used as a native, second or foreign language in them. Other early categorizations emphasized the global, national or regional outreach of varieties (in “hub-and-spoke” models) or variety types based on sociolinguistic settings in communities and their resulting linguistic properties. In contrast, recent models emphasize the evolutionary or even cyclic character of varieties; these include Trudgill’s deterministic theory and, very widely accepted nowadays, Schneider’s Dynamic Model, which is broadly outlined, including a brief discussion of some applications of and reactions to it.

This volume brings together thirteen of my essays on ancient epistemology, published between 2000 and 2020, along with a new, synoptic introduction. The essays focus on Plato, Aristotle, and the Pyrrhonian sceptics, though some attention is also given to the Cyrenaics and Descartes. Some essays compare these philosophers to one another, and/or to more recent discussions of these topics. One central theme is cognitive conditions and their contents. For example, is epistêmê knowledge as it is conceived of nowadays? Are doxa and dogma belief as it is conceived of nowadays? I also ask whether Plato and/or Aristotle is committed to the Two Worlds Theory; and whether Pyrrhonian skeptics take anything to be subjective and whether they are external world skeptics.

The new jus gentium of our times is centred on the human person, and has much advanced on humanist grounds. The general principles of law form the substratum of the legal order itself. Of great significance is the direct access of individuals to international justice nowadays. The recent cycle of UN World Conferences has, as a common denominator, the particular attention to the conditions of life and needs of protection of human beings. There has been a reassuring gradual expansion of the material content of jus cogens. International jurisprudence has evolved in pursuance of humanist thinking, in the line of jusnaturalism.

This chapter describes how Amish families from the Enon Valley in Pennsylvania and from Holmes and Wayne counties in Ohio arrived to start a new settlement in the Conewango Valley in Cattaraugus County, east of Chautauqua Lake. Since the founding of the Conewango Valley community, other Amish groups have moved east into Cattaraugus and neighboring Chautauqua County, and nowadays this region offers the Amish world in microcosm, with some of the most conservative Amish living near some of the most progressive. Like their counterparts who arrived in Lewis County in the nineteenth century, these Amish settlers to New York State have remained committed to the Anabaptist values of their forebears. Nevertheless, the settlements they have founded show the myriad ways in which these values can be realized in everyday life.

This chapter presents an overview of the development of historical narratives combining visual and textual elements in comic strips and graphic novels. History comics developed strongly during the 1940s and 1950s and became popular, in particular among young readers in Western Europe and North America. Having gained increased cultural respectability, comics more recently also obtained an adult audience. Two internationally renowned educational comics from the Anne Frank House, published in the first decade of the twenty-first century, illustrate how comics are nowadays capable of representing sensitive topics from recent history, in particular World War II and the Holocaust. Yet, combining fact and fiction requires a balanced way of (re)presenting, involving discussions among historians and others on what may be possible and desirable in this specific war of making history public.

This chapter discusses Megasthenes' accounts of India's natural world. For example, his account of the elephant implies their importance to kings: in fact, their prominence in India coincides with the rise of kingship. The terrain in which elephants can thrive is almost the inverse of that suitable for horses: their habitat is jungle, which can be anything from dense forest to open scrub with trees. Nowadays this kind of habitat is found in the more easterly parts of India, but in Alexander's time even the Punjab was thickly forested. The Mahābhārata describes the forests around Delhi (Indraprastha), and even Abu'l Fazl, in the reign of the Mughal emperor Akbar, speaks of rhinos, tigers and elephants roaming in this region.

The boundary between the physical and a virtual world is not clearly visible nowadays, the 4.0 industry utilizes artificial intelligence, distributed ledger technology, quantum computing, advanced visualization and other advanced technologies. The surge of capital flows in financial technology is visible wherever we look. Classical businesses face a challenge to connect and create partners with the companies that are technology savvy because this may impact their future success. The strategy for digital business must be thought over very thoroughly since it represents the success threshold in contemporary digital environment. The classic banking system faces the threat or opportunity of an open banking system and banks are forced to be prepared to offer next generation services benefiting from third party channels. The short history on the banking industry including digital banking along, with fintech as a financial institution showing its power to compete sophistically, will shift the studied digital transformation phenomenon into a dilemma whether we indeed face a cashless society challenge, whether the governments should start to accelerate their decisions on Central Bank Digitalized Currency – CBDC or how far several countries already are to become a cashless society. At last, potential security, trust and fraud issues will close this chapter.

Abstract:
Contemporary music festivals in late modern European culture have different histories, focuses, missions and geographical conditions. This chapter calls for deeper analysis of the development of festivals that is rooted in cultural anthropology, sociology and the sciences – a multidisciplinary approach. Without this, festivals will simply be known as recurring celebrations, thematic ritual events reflecting the basic values and the worldview shared by the participants that are the basis of their social identity. However, nowadays, the economic importance of festivals has become even more rigorously evaluated, whilst complicated ways to measure cultural impact are often left out, even from detailed reports. Most studies emphasise the difference between Eastern and Western European festivals (Newbold et al. 2015), however, the life cycle of a festival is influenced by factors that are similar wherever they take place: marketing, promotions, sales, audience development and quality, improvement challenges etc. As the size of the festival market has grown, new questions are being asked about economic efficiency. In this study I will search for similarities in the development of five major Eastern and Western European festivals, namely Glastonbury Festival (United Kingdom), Roskilde Festival (Denmark), Sziget Festival (Hungary), Exit Festival (Serbia), and Woodstock Festival Poland (Poland). I will also analyse the Sziget Festival’s life cycle in detail in order to go deeper into the issues and discuss ways to further research music festivals.

Abstract:
Global warming is one of the biggest problems in the world: international organizations, states, companies and individuals must respond to the challenges that arise. This fact has led to significant changes in the automotive industry, which can revolutionize the way the industry operates in the future. The aim of my study is to examine how the strengthening of sustainability aspects influenced the transformation of the automotive industry, with special regard to the spread of electric cars. I also examined how markets responded to technological change, thus the announcements that help drive the spread of electric cars have had a positive impact on the value of companies in recent years. With the help of event analysis, I have shown that equities had systematically outperformed after innovative announcements, but the effect was not always significant.

Abstract:
Bearings nowadays are often subjected to misalignment. Both theoretical and experimental misaligned bearings have been previously studied, it being found that the minimum film thickness is the parameter which is most noticeably affected. However, other work has showed that both thermal and deformation effects have to be considered when a bearing is subjected to severe operating conditions. The present work analyzes the influence of thermal effects, as well as the effects of mechanical and thermal deformation on misaligned bearing performance.

Abstract:
For the Middle Ages reading and writing can refer to making copies of books too, and consequently, to variant errors in them. Nowadays, when typing on PC excerpt or transcription of manuscript, we make the same kinds of mistakes, being still at scribe’s type of copying and citing. We can avoid mistakes by using HTR programs for starting SDE-s and using them to copy-paste the part of text we need. With new approaches, close to „old“ Likhachov’s textology, and with digital born editions this field is getting reshaped.

Gold, P. W., J. Loos, and M. Kuhn. "Influences of Additives on the Wear Protection of PVD-Coated and Ester Lubricated Roller Thrust Bearings." In World Tribology Congress III. ASMEDC, 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/wtc2005-63427.

Full text
Abstract:
Mixed friction cannot always be avoided in rolling bearings. It is therefore necessary to protect the bearings against wear. Nowadays, extreme-pressure- and anti-wear-additives fulfill this function. As these additives are harmful to the environment it was systematically examined to what extent PVD-coatings are able to take over their function. The effectiveness of the coatings was tested in the FE8 lubricant roller bearing test rig on the basis of cylindrical roller thrust bearings. With the help of this world wide established test rig the roller bearings are tested on boundary friction conditions (κ ≪ 1).

Abstract:
Research works and industrial applications demonstrated that laser structured surfaces can exhibit enhanced tribological behaviors and increased lifetimes, as compared with similar unstructured surfaces. Laser structuring techniques based on IR beams and micro- or nanosecond pulses are nowadays already available, but they show certain limitations in the processing of coated surfaces and in microtribology. Physical features yielding these technological limits are discussed in the beginning. Through alternative laser techniques (e.g., femtosecond pulses, UV laser beams), the aforementioned drawbacks can be overcome. An overview of these novel laser systems and of their first applications in micro- and nanostructuring of surfaces is subsequently given. Two laser structuring approaches are discussed in the experimental part of this contribution: direct and indirect processing. Laser structured surfaces were tribologically tested and results of these tests are here exposed.

Abstract:
This article aims to analyse the behaviour of the United States as a world power. The working hypothesis is that the only superpower has become, nowadays, impotent, affected by a relative decline. However, this should be understood as something natural, since it has never happened that any society would permanently remain ahead of the others. We assume here that the use of the qualitative method, through the hermeneutic analysis is, certainly, the basic methodology used for this investigation. We will try to conclude that notwithstanding their relative decline, the USA will tend to remain, in the short and medium term, the only world superpower. It is recommended that further investigation must assign a special attention to China’s emergence and its consequences on the balance of world power, in particular with regard to the durability of American hegemony.

Abstract:
The offshore and dredging industry increasingly converge. In this lecture we analyse the control tasks on board two trailing suction hopper dredgers and one multipurpose offshore construction vessel. Nowadays control and presentation systems on dredgers have evolved into highly automated systems which can be operated by only one person. — eliminating any chance of miscommunications or similar problems. This approach will be explained in full here. Given the proven benefits of the approach in the dredging industry, we make suggestions to apply it to control, automation and operation in the offshore industry. Our aim is to generate discussion about the real issues relating to the control of offshore vessels, and to obtain feedback.

Chiavassa, Nathalie, and Raphael Dewez. Technical Note on Road Safety in Haiti. Inter-American Development Bank, January 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0003250.

Full text
Abstract:
The IDB has been a predominant partner supporting Haiti development efforts for many years. Nowadays, the IDB is the main source of investment for the country. Considering the vital weight of road transport sector in the socio-economy of the country, the IDB has concentrated a large part of investment efforts in rehabilitating and improving national road infrastructures. In the same time, a rapid increase of motorization and relatively higher speeds have contributed to increasing the number of traffic fatalities and injuries. In 2017, road injuries were the fifth cause of mortality in Haiti. The Road Safety situation of the country is preoccupying with many Vulnerable Road Users involved, in particular pedestrians and motorcyclists. The country is facing multi-sector challenges to address this Road Safety situation. Despite recent efforts, high political will has not been continuous in promoting a multi-sector coordination and the success of technical efforts remained mitigated over the last years. Road user awareness is still weak in the country. Risk factors include dangerous driving, bad safety conditions of vehicles, together with limited law enforcement and poor maintenance of safety devices on the roads. In this context, the Road Safety situation of the country may be getting worse in the coming years if no action is taken. However, the new Decade provides with a unique opportunity to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including significant progress in reducing the burden of traffic crashes. The IDB has already initiated vital investments in modernizing crash data collection, promoting institutional dialogue and supporting capacity building in the area of Road Safety. Future actions to address Road Safety challenges in Haiti in the framework of the five UN five pillars would require a range of investments in the area of political commitment, institutional coordination and technical efforts. A change of political paradigm from making roads for travelling faster to making roads safer for all users is highly needed at national level. This technical note on Road Safety in Haiti present the current situation of the country and provides with recommendations for future actions on Road Safety.
