Abstract:
The results of predictive assessment of dose loads on the thyroid gland in the event of an accident at the Belarusian NPP are presented. To simulate the transfer of radionuclides in the atmosphere and the forecast of radioactive fallout at the NPP, 4 scenarios of weather conditions were considered: 2 summer, 2 winter, with different categories of atmospheric stability. It has been established that in the area within a radius of 3 km around the Belarusian NPP in case of an out-of-design accident (scenarios 1-4), the total potential radiation dose of the thyroid gland will vary within 4,83E+03 -

Abstract:
A simplified technique for determining the shakedown limit load for a long radius 90-degree pipe bend was previously developed [1, 2]. The simplified technique utilizes the finite element method and employs the small displacement formulation to determine the shakedown limit load (moment) without performing lengthy time consuming full cyclic loading finite element simulations or utilizing conventional iterative elastic techniques. The shakedown limit load is determined through the calculation of residual stresses developed within the pipe bend structure. In the current paper, a parametric study

Abstract:
This paper studies whether supervisory actions, namely provisioning guidelines on non-performing loans (NPLs), affect banks’ NPL cleansing and lending behaviour, as well as the real economy. Using the supervisory intervention announced by the European Central Bank in the first quarter of 2018 as a quasi-natural experiment, we show that banks disposed of old NPLs at a higher rate after the policy shift. Banks that were more heavily exposed to the policy tightened their lending standards, especially for risky firms. Furthermore, banks with stronger fundamentals were more keen on disposing NPLs a

Climate change and elevated atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition can have adverse effects on biodiversity, leading to acidification of soil and surface waters, reductions in tree growth and survival, alteration of aquatic food webs, and changes in biodiversity across landscapes. The objectives of this study were to implement the United States Probability of Occurrence of Plant Species (US-PROPS) model to evaluate species-level CLs and responses to N deposition under three potential future climate scenarios at eight national parks located across the continental United States. Abstract:
Mycorrhizal fungi (MF) play a crucial role within ecosystems by forming mutually symbiotic relationships where they share water, carbon, nutrients, and other benefits with plants they have inoculated. Since these plant communities depend on MF for survival, the status of MF communities can be used as a proxy for the health of the plants they support. Anthropogenic nitrogen (N) deposition can disrupt the symbiotic relationship between the plants and MF by causing a shift in mycorrhizal community composition, and in turn a shift in the plant structure within an ecosystem. Atmospheric deposition can alter biological communities through a variety of pathways. Atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition causes some plant and animal species to increase growth and/or abundance. Other species then can be outcompeted and eliminated from the biological community. Deposition of reactive N (Nr) to watersheds can impact both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem elements and contribute to eutrophication and acidification effects. Atmospheric sulfur (S) deposition has been the primary driver of soil and surface water acidification of acid-sensitive ecosystems, resulting in adverse eff
