Abstract:
The important thing to consider in the process of sending optical fiber network signals is theselection of line coding types. Line coding is a process of converting digital data into digital signals sothat they can be transmitted in optical fiber networks. Line codings commonly used are NRZ and RZ.Therefore, this research discussed the comparison of the performance of NRZ and RZ line codings infiber-optic networks in terms of Q-Factor, BER, and Eye Diagram. The result of this research was thecharacteristic form of the electric signal line coding NRZ with one data element using one signalelement, while in the RZ coding line, one data element used two signal elements. The maximum risetime variable using the RZ coding line is 0.3 bits, while the NRZ coding line is 0.7 bits. The bestrectangle shape model using line coding RZ is sine while line coding NRZ is exponential. Themaximum bit rate using the RZ coding line is 11.5 Gbps while using the NRZ coding line is 18 Gbps. The maximum transmission distance using the RZ and NRZ coding line is 75 km. Another output ofthis research is a practicum module that can be used by students of the Electrical Engineering StudyProgram to understand optical communication systems, especially line coding RZ and NRZ. Based onthe results of student assessments of 87.6% and the post-test score which is higher than the pre-testscore, the practicum module is feasible as teaching material.

Abstract:
Flexible Double Weight (FDW) Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) Code is a newly developed code within DW family. Data format in communication system consist of two types which is Non-Return Zero (NRZ) and Return Zero (RZ) line code. Simulation analysis was carried out by using simulation tools Optisystem 15 to determine the performance of FDW system with different data formats. The analysis used different detection technique such as Single-Photodiode Detection (SPD) and Spectral Direct Detection (SDD). Based on the observation, NRZ has better performance than RZ as NRZ data transmission can reach 10 km more than RZ. RZ has better Bit Error Rate (BER) than NRZ at shorter fiber length. Different detection technique has the highest impact on FDW system performance as it eliminates Multiple Access Interference (MAI) and suppress Phase Induced Intensity Noise (PIIN). FDW system with SPD using NRZ data format has best results as it can support the longest fiber length at 5 Gbps bit rate.

Abstract:
Such as in any optical communication system, the light modulation is considered a main key to determine the performance (or the maximum) of the data rate that can be transmitted and over what the long distance can be applied. So, a choice of the modulation type in any optical link is more important and should base on measuring of the BER and the Q factor parameters. In that issue, we propose a comparative study as contribution between the principle or the schemes of the direct modulation (DM) and the external modulation (EM) respectively, which the chirp frequency modeling is described for the two modulations. However, the main issues addressed also in the simulation analysis when the amount of the chirp (in GHz) introduced for the two modulations applied is discussed, and also the Q factor introduced using different power values and, in different data rate for the two modulations studied is presented where we can determine from these results of the Q factor the effect of the power and the limit of applying the direct modulation and the external modulation in terms of the maximum of the data rate that can be transmitted. Moreover, we provide a numerical results of the Q factor and the BER for the two modulations (DM and EM) using RZ and NRZ format codes at different distance transmission, and in different data rate through these results we can conclude in which code (RZ and NRZ) the DM and the EM performed better.

Abstract:
This paper presents the background of PON (Passive Optical Network), introduces the powerful communication design and simulating software which named Optisystem, show the PON(Passive Optical Network) theory and structure, designs the PON fiber link which has 1310nm uplink wavelength and 1490nm downlink wavelength and then analyses the models performance. In the software, we set up a rate of 1Gbps model of PON by using the component in the Optisystem. Through calculating the model, the document gets the spectrum figure of the simulate fiber link, and analyses the parameter, such as spectrum character, Q factor, eye diagram and BER, the result verified the validity and practicable of the models design, makes the result that the initial character fiber link cant meet the demand of optical communication, so changing the transmission distance to 10 km , transmitter power to-1dBm, meeting and obtaining the basic requirements of the system performance, after that the paper comparing the coding between none return to zero (NRZ) and return to zero (RZ) encoded mode, the eye diagram analyzer component show that NRZ code is better than RZ code, in the end of the paper there is the conclusion.

Abstract:
In this work we study the non-linear effects through the analysis of the operating results of three alloptical 3R regeneration (re-amplifying, re-shaping and re-timing) under the effects of cross-phase modulation (XPM) and four-wave mixing (FWM), being a system with hybrid modulation and two other communication systems with modulation on-off keying (OOK) with return to zero (RZ) and non-return to zero (NRZ) coding. The main part of the 3R regeneration system proposed here is a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) composed of an acousto optical filter (AOF) and a highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HNL-PCF), so the system proposed here was named 3R-MZIAOF regenerator. The comparison of the system results occurred through the variation of the input power variation from -10 dBm to 10 dBm for the link length of 121.3 km and transmission rate 10 Gbps. The results showed that the regeneration 3R scheme OOK-NRZ with AOF presented excellent values of bit error rate (BER) equal to 10-21 and quality factor (Q-Factor) equal to 9.4, when compared to a system with OOK-NRZ 3R regeneration and hybrid modulation.

Abstract:
This paper examines advanced modulation coding schemes for an optical transceiver systems–based optical wireless communication (OWC) channel model. These modulation techniquesinclude On-Off keying and return to zero (RZ)/non–return to zero (NRZ) coding. The signal power level against time and frequency spectral variations are measured. The max. Q factor and min. bit error rate (BER) are estimated and clarified for each modulation code scheme by using an optisystem simulation model. Transmission bit rates of up to 40 Gb/s can be achieved for possible distances up to 500 km with acceptable Q factor. The received power and max. Q factor are measured and clarified with OWC distance variations. The On-Off keying modulation code scheme resulted in better performance than the other modulation code schemes did.
