This paper examines the history of nuclear energy, safety developments of reactors and nuclear energy policy from the 1950s on. I investigate the effects of nuclear accidents on energy policy with the help of a panel dataset of 31 countries from 1965-2009, using annual data about the capacity of reactors under construction, primary energy consumption, as well as three nuclear accidents scaled INES five or higher by the International Atomic Energy Agency. My thesis traces policy developments in the nuclear power sector in the Republic of France, which is the most dependent country on nuclear energy in the world. The country’s particular brand of elitism, their highly centralized and technocratic government, their reputation for an extremely low rate of carbon emissions, and their discriminatory treatment of immigrants, refugees, and low-income communities all complicate this issue. The energy sector faces sustainability challenges that are re-working the established patterns of energy supply, distribution and consumption (Anderson et al. 2008; Haas et al. 2008; Stern 2008; Shove and Walker 2010). Amidst these challenges, socio-technical energy transitions frameworks have evolved that focus on transitions towards decarbonised, sustainable energy systems (Bridge et al. 2013). However, the ‘socio-‘ or social is typically missing as we confront climate and energy risks in a moral vacuum (Sovacool et al. 2016). The energy justice framework provides a structure to think about

The power supply was not enough. The energy policy proposed by Shinzo Abe in 2014 mentioned the future to achieve 3E+S as a target, 3E+S is Energy security, Environment, Economic efficiency, and Safety. The purpose of this study is to understand whether Japan really has a way to solve the energy crisis toward the goal of 3E+S. How does Japan do it? The research method is an official information analysis released from the Jap

Technology to recover uranium from seawater may act as a potential backstop on the production cost of uranium in a growing international nuclear industry. Convincing proof of the existence of an effective expected upper limit on the resource price would have a strong effect on decisions relating to deployment of uranium resource consuming reactor technologies. This evaluation proceeds from a review of backstop technologies to detailed analyses of the production cost of uranium extraction via an amidoxime braid adsorbent system developed by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Abstract:
This thesis compares the state of public participation in Japan’s nuclear energy policy-forming process before and after the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident. It assesses public participation against evaluation criteria designed from a public policy perspective and also locates discrete official exercises within the context of the wider public sphere, using deliberative systems theory to analyse the linkages between the micro and macro levels. Following Bishop and Davis (2002, p. 14), this work assumes that the idea of public participation implies ‘a sharing of power between the governed

First, the currently used fossil energy sources are primary energy sources that are not renewable and reusable. As a result, the problem of energy decline gradually arose while plenty of energy was being consumed. Second, the production of fossil energy varies across regions, with the Middle East being the top producing region. However, the political instability and long-waged wars in the Middle Eas

This occurs in nature in various forms such as chemical energy, thermal energy, electromagnetic radiation, gravitational energy, electric energy, elastic energy, nuclear energy, and rest energy. The scientific research relating to nuclear energy has revealed that atoms are the foundation of matter. In 1905 Albert Einstein initiated the quantum revolution utilising the Newtonian mass-energy equivalence concept in order to put his famous equation: E =mc2, where energy is (E). This facilitat

This master thesis examines how the Fukushima accident has affected the French energy policy and the impact on the perception of nuclear energy by policymakers, the public and energy companies. Nuclear energy does comprises three-quarters of the total electricity production in the country and thus forms the backbone of the energy mix in France. The study uses comparative analysis as a main approach, to compare public discourse of state actors (in particular the President, the Ministry of Energy and Nuclear Safety Agency) and the French energy companies before and after the accident from March
