Abstract:
Let K be a real quadratic number field. Let p be a prime which is inert in K. We denote the completion of K at the place p by Kp. Let ƒ > 1 be a positive integer coprime to p. In this thesis we give a p-adic construction of special elements u(r, ??) ∈ Kxp for special pairs (r, ??) ∈ (ℤ/ƒℤ)x x Hp where Hp = ℙ¹(ℂp) ℙ¹(ℚp) is the so called p-adic upper half plane. These pairs (r, ??) can be thought of as an analogue of classical Heegner points on modular curves. The special elements u(r, ??) are conjectured to be global p-units in the narrow ray class field of K of conductor ƒ. The construction

Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2008.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The budgeting process is an integral part of the annual business cycle of most organisations. The budget consists of numerous uncertain inputs, which are frequently used to produce a single EBIT figure. This implies that there is a risk of not achieving the budget that is not quantified and apparent from the prepared budget. In this report, the differences between the budgets of two business units of Exxaro Resources were analysed to gain a better understanding of the information hidden beyond the figures quoted on the surface.

Our results demonstrate that significant savings can be found with limited numbers of telemetry units. We then extend our results to consider the impact

It assesses the ability to resist engine knocking as the fuel burns in the combustion chamber. The main goal of this thesis is to address the critical but complex problem of predicting RON using real process data in the context of two catalytic reforming processes from a petrochemical refinery: semi regenerative catalytic reforming (S

Abstract:
A new method termed MUESA - Motor Unit Estimation based on Stochastic Activation - was developed for estimating the number of motor units in peripheral nerve/muscle systems. What distinguishes MUESA from other estimation methods is the manner in which it deals with "alternation" or probabilistic motor unit activation. Because of "alternation", incremental increases in the observed muscle potentials often can not be interpreted in terms of the successive activation of single motor units. With MUESA, we introduce a method that interprets the muscle potentials in the context of a probabilis

Abstract:
Baryon number B appears to be a conserved quantity in the Standard Model of particle physics, though there are compelling theoretical reasons to believe it isn't. This thesis describes searches for processes that violate B by two units with the Super-Kamiokande experiment. Two types of searches are performed. One is the simultaneous decay of two bound nucleons to pions (dinucleon decay), encompassing the modes ^16O(𝑝𝑝) → ^14C 𝜋^+𝜋^+, ^16O(𝑝𝑛) → ^14N 𝜋^+𝜋^0, and ^16O(𝑛𝑛) → ^14O 𝜋^0𝜋^0. The second is a search for a neutron transforming into an antineutron, or neutron-antineutron oscillation 𝑛 →

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine whether organisational restructuring of business units within a South African Fast Moving Consumer Goods company had any effect on the organisational climate of the organisation. An organisational climate survey was used before and after the restructuring over a two-year period. Five manufacturing plants formed part of the study; with four plants undergoing the restructuring (experimental group) and one plant being the control group, where no organisational restructuring took place within the two-year period under review. Facing this trend, do banks also adjust their strategies in human resources recruitment? Are their business units different in their strategies? The two major issues attract me to do the research on considerations of staffing strategies in the banking industry. This research is based on a case study of F Bank.
