The objective of this work was to evaluate intake, nutrient apparent digestibility and ingestive behavior of sheep fed rations with cashew nut meal (CNM) at the levels of 0; 10; 20 and 30% in the concentrate ration. It was used a double 4 × 4 Latin square experimental design. Intakes of dry matter (DM), organic matter, crude protein, mineral matter, non-fibrous carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients were not influenced by the addition of CNM, however, intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber and total carbohydrates presented a quadratic behavior with the increase of

Socioeconomic and agro-ecological circumstances often compel smallholder livestock farmers in the developing world to maintain livestock over winter, and this can incur production penalties due to insufficient feed quality and availability. Recent policy efforts in western China have attempted to address this issue through the promotion of lucerne production to support growing livestock numbers with its high nitrogen content, however lucerne is underutilised by farmers and rarely maintained beyond harvest. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is caused by the repetitive closure of the pharynx during sleep, leading to sleep fragmentation and, often, daytime somnolence. Traditionally, it is defined as either the number of apnoeas (complete cessation of breathing for longer than 10 seconds) or hyponoeas (reduction in air flow by >50%) per hour in an overnight sleep study. However, it must be remembered that this definition is arbitrary, and OSA is better viewed as a spectrum with trivial snoring at one end and severe, almost continuous obstruction at the other. AbstractPoor municipal solid waste management continues to be a daunting issue for municipal authorities in Ghana. Major cities generate 2000 tonnes of mixed municipal waste per day, of which about 80% is collected and disposed of at open dump sites and/or at the limited number of landfills available. About 60% of this waste is organic. The Utilization of Organic Waste to Improve Agricultural Productivity (UOWIAP) project sought to co-create knowledge through a private-public engagement for the development of organic waste value chain opportunities to sustainably manage municipal organic waste and, at the same time, improve urban farm soils and increase food productivity in the Ga-West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Through the project, identified key stakeholders in the waste and agricultural sectors, such as market traders, informal waste collectors, unemployed persons, farmers, landscapers, media, agricultural extension officers, Municipal Assembly officers and the general public, were engaged and made aware of sustainable organic waste management processes, including organic waste segregation from source, collection and compost production. Four formal markets were selected for the piloting of organic waste segregation from source. Interested persons were trained in organic waste collection, compost production and entrepreneurship. The lessons learned draw attention to the need for a massive effort to generate demand for compost use as this will invariably drive removal of organic waste from the unsorted waste stream.

Of the world’s 6.7 billion people (as of 2008), 1.3 billion lived on less than $1.25 Purchasing Power Parity dollars per person per day and another 1.7 billion lived on between $1.25 and $2.50 PPP dollars. The scourge of absolute economic misery among billions of the world’s people is one of the most serious problems facing humankind today. Unemployment (defined below) befalls about 200 million of the world’s people - a sizeable number but small compared to the three billion people who are poor using the $2.50 PPP dollar poverty line. A much larger number – 900 million – are employed but earning so little that they and their families are unable to reach even $2 per person per day. They are working hard and they are the working poor. To achieve more and better employment (where “better” depends on such factors as rate of pay, job security, employment protections, and type of work), analysts and donors need to understand better how employment, growth, poverty, and other factors interact, how unemployment is caused, and how employment can be improved. At the same time, drawing on practical experience, research can identify knowledge gaps that to date pose limits to successful employment creation policy.

Abstract:
The five others went first, one by one, and contemporary sources noted how humane the spectacle was, as the participants did not need to see each other. Thousands of Stockholmers had turned out to watch, on this cold day of 30 January 1744, as the last of the six, Gustaf Schedin, accountant at the Insjö copper works, mounted the scaffold. As the culmination of the show, he would be both beheaded and then cut to pieces. The summer before, Schedin had led the fourth Dalecarlian Rebellion: the last march of the free miners and farmers of Dalarna— the mine-rich county 100 miles north-west of Stockholm—to the Swedish capital, in a movement expressing raging discontent with the king, Fredrik I, and his disastrous war with Russia. This sort of thing had been successful before: the fiercely independent-minded people of Dalarna traditionally wielded a certain power, rich as they were in natural resources—the jewel in the crown being the famous Great Copper Mountain mine in Falun. Once it was the largest of its kind in the world, and yielded something like 70 per cent of the world’s copper production. The Falun mine, like many others, was once managed as a cooperative operation, and worked by free miners called mountain-men (bergsmän) with special privileges and laws of their own. But their time was at an end. In 1743 the uprising ended in a bloodbath in Stockholm, and now the six leaders were to be executed. The copper mine was also losing its privileged position. It had given the Swedish kings and queens economic strength for numerous more-or-less successful military adventures down in continental Europe, but was now in decline, and so was the military power of Sweden. This traditionally male activity—becoming angry and getting the lads together to sort things and people out—is chemically related to high levels of the large organic molecule testosterone. For a inorganic chemist inclined to find a good story, it would have been great to now present a direct link between copper and the way we make this molecule in our bodies, starting from cholesterol, claiming that this made the men from Dalarna more inclined to hasty revolutionary actions.

Abstract:
Digital consumer devices have penetrated our everyday lives, providing a platform to—with great efficiency and easiness—solve problems, communicate and exchange information, participate in remote activities, and even socialize. This increasing popularity provides the impetus for a rising dependency, which translates into a growing number of hours spent with the various types of media available. However, while the time we dedicate to media increases (at the cost of other activities), the number of hours that we have available (per day, per week, per month, etc.) cannot, giving rise to media multitasking behaviors. Some studies suggest that time orientation—either as a cultural construct or an individual preference—can influence one's media use habits, predicting (or not) multiple media use. There are, however, other perspectives suggesting that media use can actually affect one's time orientation. This chapter will attempt to assess both of these outlooks.

Abstract:
Using a quantitative assessment system, the number of resumes reviewed to identify a suitable developer was reduced to 3.5% with a successful recruitment decision made in 10 working days of posting the job advertisement. This paper summarises the methodology for developing that rating system. The depth and quality of an available talent pool is a function of demand, which is demonstrated by comparing globally-scaled individual performance metrics. Public code repositories are accessed and the code quality assessed algorithmically. The performance score combines accuracy, timeliness and difficulty from a series of challenges. These three attributes form a meaningful predictive measure of performance by using a non-linear optimisation routine. Bootstrapping is used to validate the approach. This process randomly omitted a scored performance observation per coder in order to calculate the performance score from the retained scores. There was a strong relationship (r = 0.70) between the predicted 1-omitted-performance score with the actual omitted score highlighting the predictive power.

The specific growth rate increased linearly with increasing ration and food conversion efficiencies also tended to increase with increasing ration. The proportion of food energy lost in fecal production remained unchanged, but the proportion of food energy lost in nitrogenous excretion tended to decrease with increasing ration, while growth increased. The energy budget at satiation was: 100C = 7.01F + 4.76U + 40.13R + 48.10G, where C, F, U, R and G represent food energy, fecal energy, excretory energy, metabolism energy, and growth energy, respectively. The unbalanced error rates in the energy budget (<EM>C</EM>%) were –9.99–11.94%. Northern Snakehead fed to satiation allocated 45.5% of assimilated energy to metabolism and 54.5% to growth. Northern Snakehead has a high growth efficiency and a low metabolic expenditure, indicating both aquaculture potential and strong competitive ability for successful invasion.

The growth of the cruise industry raises significant challenges for the three pillars of the sustainability agenda: environmental, socio-cultural and economic. These problems compounded by issues of extra-territoriality and conflicts between local authorities and national governments. Venice and Barcelona suffer from overtourism, a problem exacerbated by the arrival of larger and larger cruise ships which discharge thousands of tourists daily into cities already crowded with tourists. Neither city has any control over the number of ships docking. By contrast, the Mayor of Dubrovnik was able to sign an agreement with the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) to cap the number of cruise ships to two per day carrying a total of 5,000 tourists.

Companies create and use information and knowledge every day. The problem all companies have is figuring out how to efficiently discover that knowledge, capture it, share it, and use it to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace. This chapter describes a simulation model designed to provide small to mid-sized enterprises (SME) with a means to understand the impact of barriers and value accelerators on the flow of organizational information. The simulation model reports the throughput of information (number of information packets received per day) and its timeliness (average duration until packet arrival) and provides for sensitivity analysis of the parameters describing a strategy. Comparisons among model instantiations allow an organization to determine the appropriate strategy for current and future KMS efforts.

Abstract:
This study aimed to discover the correlation between patient satisfaction with nursing care activities and staffing patterns. The research was conducted at the medical ward of a secondary care regional hospital in Slovenia over one month. Data was collected with regard to the following: (1) patients cared for daily and number of hours/patients day at the ward level, (2) patient needs (using a classification system), (3) nurse activities as observed at 10-minute intervals, and (4) the Patient Perception of Hospital Experience with Nursing tool. A total of 218 patients were involved, and their satisfaction with nursing care was found to be high. Patient satisfaction was negatively correlated with the number of patients cared for at the unit daily, but positively with the number of care hours per patient day, the proportion of registered nurses in the nursing team, the realized percentage of the registered nurse personnel requirements, and with some direct care activities. The correlation also revealed three process items (undivided attention, explanation, and things are done without asking) being the special strengths of nursing care activities. The results show that nurse-staffing and process patterns affect patient experience. It is thus recommended to increase the amount of nursing care offered by registered nurses, while nurses’ competences can affect the process of care, and thus patient satisfaction.

Abstract:
The effect of endothelial cell injury on platelet function was evaluated in eight baboons with a normal vasculature. Endothelium was removed with a balloon catheter. On each baboon, the left carotid artery was de-endothelialized on day 0 and the right carotid artery and abdominal aorta on day 7. Mean platelet density (MPD; gm/ml), circulating platelet aggregate ratio (CPA), the number of electron-dense bodies per platelet (DBP) , and the plasma concentration (ng/ml) of platelet factor 4 x(PF4) and beta thromboglobulin (bTG) were determined on day -7 (baseline). Aim: Acute cannabis intoxication can impair motor skills and cognitive functions. Given possible impairment related to acute cannabis intoxication, we explored whether mobile phone-based sensors (e.g., GPS, text/phone logs) can detect episodes of acute cannabis intoxication (subjective “high” state) as self-reported in natural environments by young adults. Methods: Young adults (ages 18-25), who reported cannabis use at least twice per week, were recruited by research registry and Craigslist to participate in a mobile phone data collection study (up to 30 days) in Pittsburgh, PA (2017-2019). Solar tower with heliostat mirrors is one of the established setups for utility-scale solar energy harvesting. Advantages of the setup include the capability to reach high temperature, modularity and ease of maintenance for the heliostats, containment of the high temperature zone atop the tower, as well as overall low cost per unit energy. However, downscaling to medium or small scale applications often does not turn out economically feasible with flat mirror heliostats that are the norm in utility-scale systems. This is mainly due to the need to preserve the solar concentration ratio, which i

In modern society, everything from transportation to commerce to food supply is heavily dependent on the availability of cheap and plentiful energy supplies. In the past few years many have realized that the traditional sources of energy — oil and gas — are in limited supply and that we need to prepare for the approaching production maxima. It is in the interest of national economic security to investigate alternative sources of transportation energy before the extraction of existing supplies becomes prohibitively expensive. The COVID-19 pandemics will impact the demand for healthcare severely. It is essential to continually monitor and predict the expected number of new cases for each country. We explored the use of econometrics, machine learning, and ensemble models to predict the number of new cases per day for Brazil, China, Italy, and South Korea. These models can be used to make predictions in the short term, complementing the epidemiological models. Our main findings were: (i) there is no single best model for all countries; (ii) ensembles can, in some instances, improve the results of individual models; an
