ABSTRACTReleasing mosquito refractory to pathogens has been proposed as a means of controlling mosquito-borne diseases. A recent modeling study demonstrated that instead of the conventional male-only releases, adding blood-fed females to the release population could significantly increase the program’s efficiency, hastening the decrease in disease transmission competence of the target mosquito population and reducing the duration and costs of the release program. However, releasing female mosquitoes presents a short-term risk of increased disease transmission. To quantify this risk, we constru

The release of the peptide parallels the release of acetylcholine from the Schwann cells themselves in this preparation in a number of different ways. The release of both acetylcholine and the VIP-like peptide have the same threshold (between 2×10(−10) and 5×10(−10)mol l-1) for l-glutamate applic

Abstract:
With the increasing demand for multiple satellites released in a single launch being supported by developments in both rocketry and satellite manufacturing, risks of having collisions in the early phases of missions have become one of the key challenging aspects that new operators need to face. This is especially true when onboard propulsion capabilities are limited, and trajectory corrections are not possible over several orbits, a scenario which is common with smaller spacecraft. In addition, accurate tracking and orbit determination cannot be done accurately due to the unreliability of the

Undesirable adhesion in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) is referred to as stiction and is a principal failure mechanism in surface-micromachined MEMS devices. Adhesive failures can occur in a number of ways. The adhesive failures that occur during the release stage, which includes the etching of sacrificial layers, the subsequent chemical treatments, and the drying processes, are referred to as release-related stiction and failures that occur while the device is in operation are referred to as in-use stiction. A method of repairing these stiction-failed structures released from isopropyl

Air pollution is one of the most serious and intensively studied environmental problems of our time. Particulate matter (PM) air pollution has been shown to have adverse effects on human health, as well as the environment. The negative effects of pollutants can cause a wide range of health problems, from mild to serious illness to premature mortality. One of the sources of environmental pollution is biomass burning. During combustion, particles of different sizes and compositions are produced. Their formation depends on the characteristics of the fuel, the type of the combustion plant and the

Dental resins have been designed to replace amalgam restorations due to their more favorable physical, chemical, and biological properties. However, depending on its composition, the efficiency of its polymerization, and the degradation of the polymer matrix, Bisphenol-A can be present and therefore released from this material to the human body. It has been reported that residues of additives and minority by-products of polymer reactions, such as Bisphenol-A, can be released from plastics into aqueous media through polymer hydration, water-polymer diffusion, residue dissolution, and equilibriu

Abstract:
Canada’s grandparents are a diverse group. Many of them contribute greatly to family functioning and well-being in their roles as mentors, nurturers, caregivers, child care providers, historians, spiritual guides and “holders of the family narrative.”As Canada’s population ages and life expectancy continues to rise, their presence in the lives of many families may also increase accordingly in the years to come. With the number of older Canadians in the workforce steadily increasing, they are playing a greater role in the paid labour market – a shift felt by families who rely on grandparents to

Abstract:
Although engineered nanomaterials are active components in a wide variety of commercial products, there is still limited information related to the effects of these nanomaterials once released into the terrestrial environment. A high number of commercial applications use silver nanoparticles (nAg) due to its anti-microbial activity. This may be of concern for waste management since nAg could be applied to soil (e.g., biosolids) or disposed of in traditional landfills, which could lead to possible leaching into surrounding soil. Abstract:
This report describes several advances in the cyclic failure assessment of silt soils with immediate and practical benefit to the geotechnical earthquake engineering profession. First, a database of cyclic loading test data is assembled, evaluated, and used to assess trends in the curvature of the CRR-N (cyclic resistance ratio - the number of equivalent cycles) relationship. This effort culminated in a plasticity index-dependent function which can be used to estimate the exponent b in the power law describing cyclic resistance, and may be used to estimate the cyclic resistance of silt soils a

This groundbreaking report released by the JPR European Demography Unit finds that 630,000 ex-pat Israelis live across the world, most of whom choose English-speaking and European countries as their new home. The report notes that an estimated 325,000 children have been born to these Israelis when living abroad, bringing the total number of Israeli migrants and their children to close to a million. The report also finds that in certain destination countries, the proportion of ex-pat Israelis and their families now exceeds 20% of the national Jewish population. Some of the key findings in this

Abstract:
To increase our understanding of induced seismicity, we develop and implement methods to enhance seismic monitoring capabilities in northeastern British Columbia (NE BC). We deploy two different machine learning models to identify earthquake phases using waveform data from regional seismic stations and utilize an earthquake database management system to streamline the construction and maintenance of an up-to-date earthquake catalogue. The completion of this study allows for a comprehensive catalogue in NE BC from 2014 to 2020 by building upon our previous 2014-2016 and 2017-2018 catalogues. Th
