Abstract:
During his pontificate, Pius xi (1922–39) vigorously promoted the ‘export’ of the Italian model of Catholic Action to the rest of the Church as the organisational blueprint for Catholic lay activism, particularly in the battle against atheistic Communism. He was assisted by Mgr, later Cardinal, Giuseppe Pizzardo, the head of Italian Catholic Action. The successes and failures of this campaign are tracked through documents available since the opening of the files of the apostolic nunciatures and delegations and the Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs section of the Secretariat of State for Pius xi's pontificate in the Vatican Archives.

Abstract:
Behind the Scenes of the Appointment of the Successor of the Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Lwów, Józef TeodorowiczAlready in 1935 the archbishop of Armenian Catholics in Poland, Józef Teodorowicz, turned himself to the the C ongregation for the Oriental Churches to ask for appointing a coadjutor with the right of succession. He pointed to Rev. Andrzej Łukasiewicz from Czerniowce and Rev. Adam Bogdanowicz from Lwów as potential candidates for the post. Neither of them was eventually appointed, because the Holy See was considering closing the archdiocese and also questioned candidates’ qualifications. After the archbishop’s death (4 December 1938), the issue was re-raised, however, the candidates chosen by the archdiocese were rejected by the C ongregation for the Oriental Churches and Apostolic Nunciature in Warsaw. The rejected candidates were: Rev. Dionizy Kajetanowicz, Rev. Walerian Bąkowski, and Rev. Kajetan Amirowicz. Thus Łukasiewicz’s candidature was re-considered. The article presents opinions about Łukasiewicz and the situation of the Armenian Archdiocese in Lwów. Eventually, Łukasiewicz’s nomination turned out void both due to extended debates in Vatican dicasteries and the outbreak of World War II.

Merlani, Giulio.

Abstract:
The thesis analyzes the diplomatic-political activity carried out by the nuncio Francesco Buonvisi at the court of Leopold I of Habsburg. The main political events of the European scenario in the years 1672-1678 were studied through the study of the correspondence exchanged between the nuncio and Rome. In particular, the work done by Buonvisi in the realization of the pontifical projects was highlighted: stipulation of peace between the European powers and creation of an alliance against the Turks. For this reason, the path taken by the pontifical diplomacy for the preparation of the congress of Nijmegen was considered and much attention was paid to the election of Innocent XI. The pope, in fact, brought about a change of course in pontifical politics at a time when Rome did not have the ability to really influence other European courts. This inability emerged from the study of the vain efforts made by the nuncio Buonvisi. Despite the limited success achieved by Francesco Buonvisi, his contribution has proved to be fundamental for the papal court and for the few but significant results obtained in favor of the Holy See

Abstract:
Parish clergy and religious change in Prague's diocese from Council of Trent till the end of the 17th century The religious change that happens in Bohemia in the 17th century has no equivalent in the Europe at this time: the whole country, where Catholics were in a very minority, comes back to the roman Church. This evolution is here seen from a very prosaic point of view: how lay people live this change, and so how acts the parish clergy in this matter. Conversion's strategy, at the end of the Council of Trent, was to permit the use of the chalice to the laity. The consequence of this permission was a very hazy situation in the parishes, but Holy See did nothing before the battle of White Mountain, and after the battle, he suppressed chalice, mainly for pastoral reasons. During the Thirty years War, the kingdom is the place of a general reform, which has its origins in the catholic missionary movement of the beginning of the century and in the political theories of this time. Bohemia is strongly marked by the war that acts as a catalyst; at the same time political and religious authorities were lacking. The inhabitants, usually just formal Catholics at the beginning, convert themselves more and more deeply during the 17th century. The eldest, who remembered the non-Catholics services, died during the...
