Abstract:
Nursing knowledge is housed in its paradigms, philosophies, models, and theories. This knowledge must be utilized to demark nursing’s unique contributions within healthcare, regardless of the setting. The purpose of this paper is to explore the ways in which Parse’s community model may serve as a way to think about health policies and the unique ways policies may connect to nursing knowledge. Within this paper, there is a discussion about health policy, Parse’s humanbecoming paradigm, and policy development reflected upon with change concepts within the humanbecoming community model. This exploration is important because “disciplinary knowledge is the foundation for transforming health policy and health care delivery systems” (American Academy of Nursing, 2020, para. 1).

Abstract:
AbstractCritical service learning (CSL) offers promise for preparing community health nursing students to be advocates for social justice and social change. The purpose of this article is to describe a community based CSL project designed to provide cardiac health screening to an underserviced population, wherein nursing’s role in social justice is integrated into nursing practice. First, the relationship between social justice and CSL is explored. Then, the CSL approach is examined and differentiated from the traditional service learning models frequently observed in the nursing curriculum. The CSL project is described and the learning requisites, objectives, requirements, and project outcomes are outlined. While not a panacea for system reform, CSL offers nursing students avenues for learning about social justice and understanding the social conditions that underlie health inequalities. Nurse educators may benefit from the new strategies for incorporating social justice into nursing curriculum; this paper suggests that CSL offers one possibility.

Abstract:
Community health and public health nursing is a relevant issue in the context of the Portuguese National Health System reforms. International organizations, such as the World Health Organization, have emphasized the importance of nurses in community and public health care, and international studies report ongoing changes in this area in many countries. Through a Systematic Literature Review, conducted in early 2019, following an Equator Network protocol, Systematic Reviews, CRD's guidance for undertaking reviews in health care, prepared by York University, we addressed the research issue: what has been published about community health and public health nurse competencies and interventions. The inclusion of articles followed PRISMA 2009 and 36 of the total number of publications were selected. The contributions refer to the expansion of nurses’ competences, events such as health fairs, nutrition, and caries assessments, performance in contexts of natural disasters, development of management skills, understanding and influencing the making of public health policies. With the ongoing public health reform taking place in Portugal, it is also a good opportunity for nursing to investigate, produce, innovate, and recreate itself.

Abstract:
As health care is shifting from hospital to community, community health nurses (CHNs) are directly affected. This descriptive qualitative study sought to understand priority issues currently facing CHNs, explore development of a national vision for community health nursing, and develop recommendations to shape the future of the profession moving toward the year 2020. Focus groups and key informant interviews were conducted across Canada. Five key themes were identified: community health nursing in crisis now, a flawed health care system, responding to the public, vision for the future, and CHNs as solution makers. Key recommendations include developing a common definition and vision of community health nursing, collaborating on an aggressive plan to shift to a primary health care system, developing a comprehensive social marketing strategy, refocusing basic baccalaureate education, enhancing the capacity of community health researchers and knowledge in community health nursing, and establishing a community health nursing center of excellence.

Abstract:
Background: Nurses in public health centers, or known as public health nurses (PHNs), have duties in implementing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative efforts. In Indonesia, there is no basic reference to the competencies that should be performed by PHNs. The provision of health services in the community should cover two areas, namely inside and outside the building (Minister of Health’s Regulation No. 279 Year 2006); it causes nurses in the community to further hone their skills while in the field.Purpose: This study aimed to identify the competencies of the Indonesian PHNs from experts using the C/PHN competencies of the Quad Council Coalition through a Delphi method. Methods: This study was quantitative research with a Delphi method. We employed a purposive sampling technique to recruit the experts of public health nurses. The experts did a Delphi method to identify, analyze, and modify the C/PHN Competencies of the Quad Council Coalition into the Indonesian version of C/PHN Competencies with local cultures. Results: Results showed that from eight domains of the Quad Council Coalition C/PHN competencies, there were changes for priority of the PHN competencies in Indonesia. All priorities were classified into eight groups, namely: (1) Leadership Skills and Thinking Systems; (2) Community Dimensions of Practice; (3) Assessment Analytic; (4) Policy Development and Program Planning; (5) Communication Skills; (6) Financial Planning and Management and Planning; (7) Public Health Sciences Skills; and (8) Cultural Competency. Conclusion: The Quad Council Coalition of C/PHN competencies are appropriate with the Indonesian PHN competencies, although the priority is changed related of local wisdom as stated in the Minister of Health’s Regulation No. 279 Year 2006. Therefore, the Indonesian P/HN competencies should be developed to support the Indonesian health people through family approach.
