Abstract:
The overall objective of this research was to analyze the effect of ownership status on 1) quality of care delivered, 2) the cost of nursing homes in the United States and 3) wages to Registered Nurses. The model developed here uses a two stage least squares technique to correct for observed endogeneity problems. Results show that a model which includes ownership classification interactively with all independent variables, performs better than a model which simply uses dummies to proxy for ownership status. Nonprofit homes were found to have higher direct patient care expenditures than profit

Privatisation of health care services, together with economical problems, are causing the role fulfilment and accountability structure of the nurse administrator to become much more complex and greater demands are continually made. A profile of the nurse administrator in private hospitals in South Africa, was compiled by means of an explorative descriptive study. This was done to a

Patient and public criticism of care in many South African public hospitals has resulted in negative media reports. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of appointing Quality Assurance Nurse Managers (QANMs) on the provision of quality patient care in selected public hospitals of the Limpopo Province and to make recommendations where appropriate. The study was quantitative, exploratory and descriptive in nature. Data was collected by means of a self-developed questionnaire from 112 respondents, consisting of 10 QANMs and 102 Quality Assurance Team members (QAT). The response ra

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<br>A move toward care of residents in nursing homes where they are respected and heard is finally emerging. Common strategies used in nursing homes to improve quality of care for residents are integration of person-centered care and assessing care using satisfaction surveys. Although approaches of integrating person-centered care and satisfaction surveys have been valuable in improving nursing home quality, strategies of care that include things that matter from residents’ perspectives while living in nursing homes need investigation.

abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease affecting more than ten percent of the U.S. adults. Approximately 50 percent of people with diabetes fail to achieve glycemic targets of A1C levels below seven percent. Poor glycemic control disproportionately affects minority populations such as Korean Americans (KAs). Successful diabetes self-management requires a comprehensive approach that takes into account depression, sleep, and acculturation to achieve good glycemic control. Therefore, the purposes of this study were to: 1) describe the levels of glycemic control, depressive

Curative primary health care nurses are the first level of contact with health personnel the patient has when entering the district-driven health system of South Africa. It is imperative that these nurses are competent, or patients may suffer. Several factors exist as barriers to competent curative care. Donabedian's structure-process-outcome framework has been used in the study of these factors. Literature were selected from international and national studies of nursing to discover barriers and enablers in general nursing care but also specifically in curative primary health care. The cu
