Abstract:
With the development of nursing education institutions, there emerged a need for continued education and expansion of the body of related scientific knowledge. After the introduction of nursing care and nursing into the university curricula, scientific research in this area became an inevitable part of the advancement of the profession. Nursing focuses on the care for others and deals with issues such as nutrition, security and safety, admission and care, hygiene issues and similar. Promoting the research and involvement of nurses in research teams is of great importance to the quality of nurses' work, as it encourages evidence-based and data-based work. Generally speaking, we can say that the history of nursing research begins together with modern nursing. Nurses involved in research are often faced with a lack of support from managerial nurses and misunderstanding from colleagues who believe that doing research has a negative impact on clinical practice. Such a situation suggests that research work should actually be encouraged during school. There are three major areas with regard to nursing research: nursing education, nursing practice, and nursing administration. When it comes to trends in nursing education, the emphasis is primarily put on the importance of quality research rooted in philosophy and humanism that is also able to provide practically usable results. In the field of nursing practice, the emphasis is on research that promotes health and healthy lifestyles. Finally, in the field of nursing administration, the most common is evidence-based research. The primary focus is placed on topics such as nursing, energy therapies, knowledge and attitudes, and spirituality. The relationship between care and treatment, symptoms management, quality of life and depression are the topics most commonly examined. In Serbia, nurses have only recently been given the opportunity to study at a university level. There is also an increasing number of nursing colleges. This situation speaks in favor of stimulating and fostering research work.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION
Nursing education consists of the theoretical and practical training provided to nurses with the purpose to prepare them for their duties as nursing care professionals. The scope of nursing practice reflects all the role and responsibilities undertaken by the nurse to address the full range of human experiences and responses to health and illness. The instructional strategies utilized in both didactic and clinical components of nursing education courses are highly influential in determining critical thinking and clinical decision making ability as well as in developing the psychomotor skill performance of new graduates. Simulation provides nursing students with opportunities to practice their clinical and decision-making skills through various real-life situational experiences. Although endorsed in nursing curricula, its effectiveness is largely unknown.

Abstract:
Purpose. The purpose of this article is to describe action research in nursing education and to propose a definition of action research for providing guidelines for research proposals and criteria for assessing potential publications for nursing higher education.Methods.The first part of this project involved a search of the literature on action research in nursing higher education from 1994 to 2013. Searches were conducted in the CINAHL and MEDLINE databases. Applying the criteria identified, 80 publications were reviewed. The second part of the project involved a literature review of action research methodology from several disciplines to assist in assessing articles in this review.Results.This article summarizes the nursing higher education literature reviewed and provides processes and content related to four topic areas in nursing higher education. The descriptions assist researchers in learning more about the complexity of both the action research process and the varied outcomes. The literature review of action research in many disciplines along with the review of action research in higher education provided a framework for developing a nursing-education-centric definition of action research.Conclusions.Although guidelines for developing action research and criteria for publication are suggested, continued development of methods for synthesizing action research is recommended.

Abstract:
This column concerns itself with the issue of research and the doctor of nursing practice. The reports of the Institute of Medicine about patient safety, quality in healthcare, and the restructuring of education of healthcare providers are reviewed. The reasons for the creation of the doctor of nursing practice are illuminated along with the essentials of educating nurses for the role and the position statement on nursing research by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Finally, the impact that those with a doctor of nursing practice who conduct nursing research may have on the discipline of nursing is considered.
