Abstract:
The study locates an asymmetrical dialectic of oppression in Tsitsi Dangarembga’s Nervous Conditions. It reveals Nyasha, Tambu, Lucia, Maiguru, and Ma’Shingayi’s experiences with racist-sexist dimensions in the context of a typical Shona society in colonial Rhodesia and England. The study locates cultural and political inscriptions on women’s body and sexuality and the mutually-constitutive intersections which socio-culturally and politically regulate women characters’ beliefs and body. Nyasha goes against existing political dynamics and exhibits subversive body performativeness to claim/redefine her identity and sexuality. It bespeaks of an act of political warfare. She deliberately dismantles the barriers that prohibit entrance to domains reserved for specific gender and race. As such, Nyasha’s relation with her society and the hierarchical structure of race and gender in which her identity is embedded unequivocally signify political implications. This is because Nyasha’s race, gender, and sexuality constitute her social and political identities.

Abstract:
Womanhood has been a complex concept as compared to woman. As human being we have been a part society, community where we have been stratified as per our roles. The hitch between female and male based upon their roles has been common and along with the external fights this internal fight of sexes has been a matter of everyday. Feminism as a movement has been originated long ago and simultaneously successful in rendering woman her position. When Tsitsi Dangarembga speaks of the condition of Zimbabwean women, she makes Tambu as the mouth-piece, who sees her mother and many other women who have been crushed under the burden of womanhood. The male members with their own ideas have shown their unwarranted biasness in the disguise of a husband, father and son. In Tambu's house, the family patriarch Babamukuru controls everything. His wife Magiuru though seldom resents his influence and power but goes through the internal anguish while his daughter Nyasha as a person is filled with contradictions who feels resentment as the only means. In Nervous Condition, these women are trapped because they are born as woman. Their sex determines their roles, behavior, what profession they should go for, which school they should opt and even whether they should be allowed to go to school. Tambu is allowed to go to school only after the death of her brother. In case of Nyasha, her father Babamukuru is a misogynist, who has a lot of contempt and prejudice for women. He is exposed to foreign culture as he has been to England but he still adheres to his own traditionalist ideas. Though his wife has a master degree, but he feels a woman is incomplete without her domestic chores, loyalty and obedience towards her husband. The condition is apprehensive where the women witness the reluctance of the society to see them in a new position. Those who are trapped like Tambu’s mother and Maiguru believe that their status is predetermined. But when it comes to the free-willed Nyasha, Tambu and Lucia they have different opinions. They choose their own paths to keep themselves away from the trap of womanhood. These assumptions of womanhood are more gender biased than being related to biology. So, these are less predestined and more designed.

Abstract:
This paper explores Tsitsi Dangarembga’s debut novel, Nervous Conditions, from a political perspective. It has been read as portraying of gender relationships, social hierarchies and oppression of African women. This paper takes a different route as it analyses the role of masculinities through a political perspective. The conflict and struggle between genders in the text can be read through a political and historical perspective. This particular reading is permitted through a close analysis of the male characters in the novel. The research argues that male characters resemble or behave in away similar to white colonizers in their treatment of African women. Reading the novel through a political perspective provides the reader with the benefit of understanding the changes that occur in the characters and the role of gender conflict in the text. The triumph of Tambu and Nyasha at the end underscores the failure of colonial power to colonize Zimbabwe.

Abstract:
Misrepresentation is one of the causes of the defect of the contractor's willingness to enter into a contract. Misrepresentation is a common law principle that has been applied in commonwealth countries including Malaysia. Therefore, this study was made to analyze the misrepresentation legislation that applies in Malaysia. This study is a qualitative study using content analysis design that will analyze the legal provisions found in the legislation in Malaysia. The results of the study found that there are several statutes governing misrepresentation in contracts in Malaysia, however, most statutes are specific to certain contracts. Therefore, misrepresentation is still governed by the Contracts Act 1950 if it is not bound by any other statute. However, the misrepresentation provisions in the Contracts Act 1950 still need to be improved to ensure that misrepresentation legislation can be properly controlled.

Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 556 Epigenetic profiling of primary DLBCLs reveals novel DNA methylation-based clusters and new underlying mechanisms of lymphomagenesis. Nyasha Chambwe, Matthias Kormaksson, Subhajyoti De, Franziska Michor, Nathalie Johnson, David W. Scott, Randy D. Gascoyne, Ari Melnick, Fabien Campagne and Rita Shaknovich. Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphomas (DLBCLs) are a heterogeneous group of diseases from the clinical, molecular and genetic standpoints. While gene expression profiling has identified clinically and biologically relevant DLBCL subtypes, there is still considerable heterogeneity beyond what has been resolved through transcriptional and genetic profiling. It is increasingly clear that lesions in epigenetic regulatory proteins and transcription factors are a hallmark of DLBCL, which suggests that aberrant epigenetic programming is likely to be a significant factor in these tumors. Our recent preliminary data suggests that aberrant DNA methylation is also widespread in DLBCL and contributes to the abnormal expression patterns of GCB and ABC DLBCLs. Moreover recent data in the setting of AML show that DNA methylation profiles delineate disease subtypes not captured through transcriptional or genetic profiling. We hypothesized that DNA methylation profiles would allow us to identify new, biologically significant DLBCL subtypes. We therefore examined the DNA methylation of over 140 patients with DLBCL using the HELP assay covering multiple CpGs at over 14,000 gene loci. We next performed an unbiased (unsupervised) analysis of probesets that display significant variability (n=3,005), using K-means consensus clustering. This procedure identified four robust DLBCL subtypes based on epigenetic profiles. To identify the genes that define these four clusters we next performed supervised analysis of the DLBCL subtypes including the normal counterpart germinal center B-cells as a normal control, using three independent statistical methods. 46 genes defined cluster A, 236 genes defined cluster B, 376 genes defined cluster C and 1271 genes defined cluster D (selected genes displayed change in methylation of at least 30% at BH corrected p-value < 0.05). Each of these epigenetically defined DLBCL subtypes featured aberrant DNA methylation of genes and pathways with potential relevance to pathogenesis. For example cluster A was notable for aberrant DNA methylation of REL, STAT3, CD30; cluster B for aberrant methylation of the TNFa and IFN1 networks; cluster C of IDH2, FOXG1 genes; and cluster D of CDKN2A, ATF3, FOXL3 genes. Other defining characteristics of Cluster D was enrichment for ABC DLBCLs (Fisher exact test, p=0.007) and most remarkably, marked intra-tumor and inter-individual heterogeneity of DNA methylation patterning. This latter feature is suggestive of potential epigenetic clonal complexity and failure to properly control the boundaries of methylated regions of the genome in these tumors. Clusters A and B revealed enrichment for GC features and cluster B had increased expression of MUM1 (Fisher exact test, p=0.007 and p=0.002). Furthermore, we noted that higher expression of DNMT3B and DNMT3L were associated with hypermethylation in DLBCL samples, while higher expression level of AICDA was associated with aberrant hypomethylation in DLBCLs as compared to normal GC B-cells. Higher expression levels of epigenetic modifiers EZH2 and MBD4 was associated with greater heterogeneity of DNA methylation patterning compared to the normal methylation pattern in germinal center B cells. Collectively, the data indicate that DLBCLs are composed of entities defined by specific DNA methylation profiles that only partially overlap with the ABC and GCB classification. The DLBCL subtypes display perturbation of genes likely to play significant biological roles, and aberrant methylation patterning can be traced in part to aberrant expression of epigenetic regulators including DNA methyltransferases, AICDA and EZH2. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Abstract: Sambung nyawa plant (Gynura procumbens) is known as one of the plants that are beneficial for human health. The leaves of this plant are known to have anti-inflammatory effects that can reduce and even treat various diseases. This research focused on the selection of the stem part of sambung nyawa plant which has the best capacity as explant cuttings. This research was carried out by planting three different parts of the stem of the plant, namely the upper part (shoots apical up to 10 cm down part), the middle (the stem part that is 10cm from the top to 20 cm down part), and the bottom (the part of the stem which is 20 cm apart from shoots up to 30 cm down part). These three types of explants were planted in soil containing humus without being treated with the addition of PGR(s). This study used a completely randomized design with ten replications. The results showed that there was no significant differences between the stem parts with leaf length parameter, but there were significant differences in leaf width, shoot length, and root length ones. The results of this study were expected to be a reference part of the stem "middle" and or "bottom" as the best explant in the effort to propagate the sambung nyawa plants using cuttings. Keywords: organogenesis, propagation, sambung nyawa, cuttings.

Abstract:
This paper is about collecting, travel and the geographies of science. At one level it examines the circumstances that led to Isaac Lea's description in Philadelphia of six freshwater mussel shells of the family Unionidae, originally collected by John Kirk during David Livingstone's Zambesi Expedition, 1858–64. At another level it is about how travel is necessary in the making of scientific knowledge. Following these shells from south-eastern Africa to Philadelphia via London elucidates the journeys necessary for Kirk and Lea's scientific work to progress and illustrates that the production of what was held to be malacological knowledge occurred through collaborative endeavours that required the travel of the specimens themselves. Intermediaries in London acted to link the expedition, Kirk's efforts and Lea's classification across three continents and to facilitate the novel description of six species of freshwater mussel. The paper demonstrates the role of travel in the making of mid-nineteenth-century natural history and in developing the relationships and credibility necessary to perform the research on which classifications undertaken elsewhere were based.
