Abstract:
AbstractAt first sight, Aramaic appears to have two forms to express the passive of the active participle. That is, not only do the active stems possess both an active and a passive participle, but the t-stems, which can express the passive voice, also possess a participle. This article proposes that, at the diachronic stage of the language attested in the Aramaic of Daniel, the so-called passive participle is primarily a verbal adjective that is developing into a resultative participle, whereas t-stem participles are the true passive (and reflexive) counterparts to the active participle.

Abstract:
Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain cancer without effective treatments. CAR-T cells targeted to tumor-associated antigens offer promise for treating GBM. Here, we used cellular impedance assays to compare the cytolytic potency and kinetics of conventional viral vs non-viral CRISPR engineered GD2 CAR-T cells against glioma stem cells (GSC), a subpopulation of glioblastoma cells. Patient-derived N08 GSCs were plated at 50k cells/well on 96-well plates, and impedance was continuously monitored on the Maestro Z impedance platform (Axion BioSystems). GD2 CAR-T cells were engineered using either retroviral transduction (RV) or non-viral CRISPR editing (NV). At 48 hours, GD2 CAR-T cells were added at Effector:Target ratios of 0.1:1, 1:1, and 10:1. Comparisons were made to mCherry T cells (mCh) as a control. Impedance and cytolysis were monitored up to 7 days. RV and NV GD2 CAR-T cells caused decreases in impedance consistent with T cell-mediated lysis of GSCs, whereas mCh T cells induced little change. NV CAR-T cells exhibited faster killing kinetics compared to RV CAR-T cells. The time to 50% cytolysis (KT50) was significantly shorter for NV vs RV CAR-T cells at 1:1 and 10:1 E:T ratios. Cytotoxic function was validated with flow cytometry and cytokine analysis at 7 days. All T cells exhibited chronic activation measured by CD69 and CD137 upregulation. Importantly, NV CAR-T cells exhibited less exhaustion, as measured by PD1 and LAG3 expression. Both RV and NV GD2 CAR-T cells effectively cytolyzed GSCs, with NV CAR-T cells exhibiting more potent and efficient killing. The high potency, fast kinetics, and reduced exhaustion of NV CRISPR GD2 CAR-T cells offer great clinical promise for treating GBM. Citation Format: Stacie A. Chvatal, Meghan T. Logun, Denise D. Abstract:

Abstract:
In this paper we clarify the status of some poorly known blackfly species from the Neotropical Region. Information is provided about their depositories, their condition, and already-established synonyms. Fifteen new synonyms are established, two species are assigned to a different subgenus, and five lectotypes are designated based on an examination of type material. The following new synonyms are proposed: Simulium tarsatum Macquart (= S. mexicanum Bellardi, S. seriatum Knab, S. aureopunctatum Malloch, S. placidum Knab, S. lugubre Lutz & Nuñez Továr, S. turgidum Hoffmann, Trichodagmia laticalx Enderlein, T. latidigitus Enderlein, S. bellardii Py-Daniel & Moreira Sampaio); S. nigrimanum Macquart (= T. spadicidorsum Enderlein); and S. townsendi Malloch (= S. chalcocoma Knab, T. ecuadoriensis Enderlein, T. latitarsis Enderlein, T. strigata Enderlein, S. muiscorum Bueno, Moncada & Muñoz de Hoyos). Five lectotypes are designated for the following species names: T. laticalx, T. latidigitus, T. spadicidorsum, T. ecuadoriensis and T. latitarsis. Two species, S. tarsale Williston & S. tarsatum Macquart, previously unplaced in the genus Simulium s.l. are now assigned to the subgenus Hemicnetha Enderlein.

Abstract:
This study compares the three-factor model (F&F model) proposed by Eugene Fama and Kenneth French with Daniel and Titman’s Characteristics Model (D&T model) using the data of Indian stock returns for the period of 25 years from 1993 to 2018. Three-way sorting (3 × 2 × 2) of stocks based on the B/M ratio and size of the firms, and then by SMB, HML, or ex-ante β loadings, is formulated to design thirty-six portfolios. Regression and rolling regression are applied to the data under study. Results obtained by the F&F model, despite its shortcomings, are found more conclusive than the D&T model for distinguishing between characteristics and covariances for returns on Indian stock. This study favors the F&F model over the D&T model.

Abstract:
This article looks at Daniel Albright's ideas on the integration, or otherwise, of the arts, specifically as presented in his book Panaesthetics (2014). Articulating a response to Jean-Luc Nancy's resonant question in The Muses, ‘Why are there several arts and not just one?’, Albright questions whether it is actually possible speak about ‘unity’ across the arts or whether ‘diversity’ remains what defines them. With that in view, the article looks at Olivier Messiaen's Harawi and T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets to discuss the countertextual and the contrapuntal, and how the poetic can there be observed in the musical and vice versa. In doing so, it also offers reflections on some implications for critical practice.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the penultimate book ofDaniel Deronda, Gwendolen Harleth appears in a state of physical and mental shock after the drowning of her detested husband. Exposed to an increasingly popularized discourse of trauma, today's readers would have little trouble in identifying and labeling Gwendolen as a traumatized subject, suffering from a variety of typical symptoms in the aftermath of her terrible experience. She is fixated on the “dead face” of Grandcourt in the water, hallucinating it everywhere. Later, she complains that she “can't sleep much” and that “[t]hings repeat themselves in me so. They come back – they will all come back” (659; ch. 65). Disoriented in the present, she seems to return repeatedly to the past, the line between her interior world and the external world growing increasingly tenuous: “She unconsciously left intervals in her retrospect, not clearly distinguishing between what she said, and what she had only an inward vision of” (594; ch. 56). In her conversation with Daniel Deronda, she is described as being silent for a moment or two, “as if her memory had lost itself in a web where each mesh drew all the rest” (592; ch. 56). Deronda wonders whether she “was she seeing the whole event – her own acts included – through an exaggerating medium of excitement and horror.” (591; ch. 56).
