The potency of object detection techniques using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is unprecedented due to their mobility. This potency has stimulated the use of UAVs with object detection functionality in numerous crucial real-life applications. Additionally, more efficient and accurate object detection techniques are being researched and developed for usage in UAV applications. However, object detection in UAVs presents challenges that are not common to general object detection. A surface reconstruction method for material shape analysis is presented. The three-dimensional shape reconstruction system detects object surface based on optical principle. A series of gratings are projected to the object, and the projected gratings are deformed by the object surface. From images of the deformed gratings, three-dimensional profile of the material surface can be obtained. The basic aspects of the method are discussed, including the vision geometry, the light projection and code principle. The proposed method can deal with objects with various discontinuities on the material s

When human observers view dynamic random noise, such as television ‘snow’, through a curved or annular aperture, they experience a compelling illusion that the noise is moving smoothly and coherently around the curve (‘the omega effect’). In several series of experiments, we have investigated the conditions under which this effect occurs and the possible mechanisms that might cause it. We contrast the omega effect with ‘phi motion’, seen when an object suddenly changes position. Our conclusions are that the visual scene is first segmented into objects before a coherent velocity is assigned to

Granular geophysical flows pose a significant threat to human lives and infrastructure in mountainous regions globally. Property and victims impacted by these flows often get carried away and buried. Quickly locating the potential location of victims is critical for post-disaster recovery and rescue. However, the trajectory of object impacted by granular flows is difficult to predict because of the scale disparity between the sizes of granular particles and the object being transported. This paper reviews single object auctions when bidders? values of the object are interdependent. We will see how the auction forms could be ranked in terms of expected revenue when signals that bidders have about the value of the object are affiliated. In the discussion that follows we will deal with reserve prices and entry fees. Furthermore we will examine the conditions that have to be met for English auction with asymmetric bidders to allocate the object efficiently. Finally, common value auctions will be considered when all bidders have the same value for the object.

R.M. Sainsbury’s account of reference has many compelling and attractive features. But it has the undesirable consequence that sentences of the form “x is thinking about y” can never be true when y is replaced by a non-referring term. Of the two obvious ways to deal with this problem within Sainsbury’s framework, I reject one (the analysis of thinking about as a propositional attitude) and endorse the other(treating “thinks about” as akin to an intensional transitive verb). This endorsement is also within the spirit of Sainsbury’s account of reference.

However, if we analyze his writing after 1917, in which Meinong discusses timeless values, it becomes clear that he became increasingly disinterested in psychology. Moreover, since the theory of the object, in Meinong?s view, could not be a part of metaphysics, he had to deal with the additional methodological difficulty of proving that the good exists independently of human subjectivity. To deal with these problems, this work proposes a four-stage hierarchical association framework for multiple object tracking in airborne video. In this paper I take up the "claim to universality" of hermeneutics, as put forth by Hans-Georg Gadamer; the aim is to grasp the "life that can understand," to grasp it in its essence and in terms of understanding. In this way I deal critically with Gadamer's (and Heidegger's) idea that all understanding is "self-understanding" and work out the dependence of understanding on the other, on the "hermeneutic object" ( Gegenstand ) of understanding. But a "hermeneutic object" ( Gegenstand ) is not a "mere object" ( Objekt ). On the basis of this distinction, I develop, in conclusion, a critical re
