This paper presents a model by combining BP neural network and DS evidential reasoning, which not only achieves the feature level fusion of all subjective and objective evidences in various domains and layers, but also makes distinct models complement each other. By the experiment, this method improves classification precision by 7.9 percent and reduces the time complexity of algorithm. The model solves the problems such as high complexity of algorithms and low accuracy rate of classifications lie in the flood prediction using single models.

The article explores the household-level determinants of corruption and its different forms in Bangladesh. It also identifies the micro-level factors for which households pay different amount of bribe. To attain these objectives, experiences of 210 Bangladeshi farm households belonging to six different districts of the country are analyzed. The econometric analyses show that the households with higher expenditure are more likely to face corruption and bribery, and also pay a higher amount of bribe. However, these households are less likely to face the negligence of duty and nepotism or favouri

Abstract:
AbstractIn this contribution, we will mobilize the interdisciplinary life course paradigm to consider the processes through which individual heterogeneity in health and wealth is constructed all along life, from the cradle to old age. Considering altogether historical, family and individual times, the life course perspective has been developed in sociology, (lifespan) psychology and epidemiology, and has framed many important studies during the last four decades. The theory of cumulative disadvantage is for sure the most popular in social sciences, explaining how little inter-individual differences early in life expand all along life to reach maximal amplitude among the “young old” (before the selection by differential mortality at very old age). In lifespan psychology, the theory of cognitive reserve (educational level being a proxy) and its continuation, the theory of use or disuse (of cognition during adult life) have more or less the same explanatory power, cognition being a decisive precondition for active ageing and quality of life in old age. However, in spite of the success of those theoretical bodies, a prominent figure in the field, Glen Elder, recently observed that there is surprisingly little evidence for cumulative processes and that a wide variety of model specifications remain completely untested. This finding makes even more important a critical review of the literature which summarize several robust evidences, but also discuss contradictory results and suggest promising research tracks. This exercise considers the life course construction of inequalities in the distribution of objective resources older adults have (or not) “to live the life they own value” (to quote A. Sen 2001). But it is also crucial to consider the subjective component that is inherent to the understanding of well-being.

Abstract:
AbstractScar assessment has long relied on a variety of instruments, most of them questionnaires or scales that are susceptible to bias and limit the level of evidence in research. Throughout recent years, a variety of objective assessment tools have been developed. They allow for the exact quantification of different scar parameters such as texture, pliability, color, and size, thus facilitating detailed progress analysis throughout treatment. The advent of new technology, however, has its pitfalls, too. The number of different technologies available is hard to review, and oftentimes, clinical validation is lacking, making it hard for researchers to gauge whether a certain instrument is adequate for their individual projects. The use of each individual instruments has different requirements regarding patient preparation and calibration, and the measurements themselves can often be adjusted through a variety of parameters. This requires intensive familiarization with the respective instruments. Additionally, interpretation of the data can be complicated, and distinguishing statistically significant differences from clinically important differences remains difficult.Modern technology, however, allows researchers to measure treatment effects that otherwise would have eluded them through the use of subjective evaluation only.Through objective scar assessment technology and its detailed abilities to document changes throughout treatment, the evidence in scar-related research can be greatly improved, and current as well as new treatment options can finally be adequately gauged for their efficacy.

The blade design is a cast-in-pair novel configuration where two airfoils are attached to a single firtree. This design solution was implemented in the first stage of the Low Pressure Turbine of the TP400-D6 engine using a directionally solidified M247 alloy. Due to the novelty of the design configuration a case containment test was carried out for certification versus CS-E810 EASA airworthiness requirement. The test was full scale reproducing engine-operating temperatu

Abstract:
A better understanding of unsteady flows (including turbulence) is a necessary step towards a breakthrough in the design of modern gas turbine components. LES emerges as a very promising method to improve both knowledge of complex physics and reliability of flow solver predictions. However, there is still a lack of evidences in the literature that LES is applicable for rotor/stator configurations at industrial Reynolds numbers. In that context, the objective of the present work is to investigate the capability of LES to predict the turbulent flow in a stage of an axial compressor. The studied

Abstract:
This report supports an evidence-based approach to the prevention and education objective of the National Strategy to Reduce Harm from Gambling. Applying a public health policy lens, it considers three levels of measures: universal (for the benefit of the whole population), selective (for the benefit of at-risk groups), and indicated (for the benefit of at-risk individuals). Six measures are reviewed by drawing upon a range of evidence in the academic and grey literature. The universal level measures are “Regulatory restriction on how gambling is provided” and “Population-based safer gambling/

SO277 OMAX served two scientific projects. The objectives of the first project, SMART, were to develop multi-disciplinary methodologies to detect, quantify, and model offshore groundwater reservoirs in regions dominated by carbonate geology such as the Mediterranean Sea. To this end we acquired controlled-source electromagnetic, seismic, hydroacoustic, geochemical, seafloor imagery data off Malta. Preliminary evaluation of the geophysical data show that there are resisitivity anomalies that may represent offshore freshwater aquifers. The absence of evidence for offshore springs means that thes

At the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Development Effectiveness Framework (DEF) was adopted to enhance the likelihood this goal is met. The key objective of this analysis is to enhance our understanding of the role the set of tools and processes adopted at the IDB, from project design to completion, play in the assessment of a projects success and effectiveness. Background: Healthcare decision makers strive to operate on the best available evidence. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program aims to support healthcare decision makers by producing evidence reviews that rate the strength of evidence. However, the evidence base is often sparse or heterogeneous, or otherwise results in a high degree of uncertainty and insufficient evidence ratings. Objective: To identify and suggest strategies to make insufficient ratings in systematic reviews more actionable. Methods: A workgroup comprising EPC Program mem

Evidence from research on infectious diseases suggests that income inequality is related to higher rates of infection and death in disadvantaged population groups. Our objective is to examine whether there was an association between income inequality and the numbers of cases and deaths during the first wave of the COVID- 19 pandemic in European countries. We determined the duration of the first wave by first smoothing the number of daily cases, and then using a LOESS regression to fit the smoothed trend. Next, we estimated quasi-Poisson regressions. This paper presents an alternative to the current use of gasoline and diesel for transportation in Barbados. By relying on experimental evidence, it shows that biomethane emanating from the combination of Sargassum seaweed that is found on the seashores of the country with wastewater from rum distillery production can be used to produce an alternative transportation fuel. If implemented successfully, this alternative combustion method can avoid as much as 1 million metric tons of CO2 emissions every year in the country. It provides evidence to inform policy by understanding baselines, trends and tipping points, as well as the multiple and interacting effects of human activities and policy interventions. Measuring progress depends on strong evidence and requires the design of a monitoring framework based on well-defined objectives and indicators, informed by the diverse disciplines required to inform progress on cross-cutting policy objectives such as the Just Transition.
