Abstract:
The research aims to analyse the concept of the 'holiday home' in Italy, a phenomenon that is not very well known and not given sufficient visibility in the tourism sector. The objective is to grasp the role and the degree of response that the holiday homes can offer in order to consolidate a genuinely social and sustainable tourism, which is the specific feature of the Associazione di Promozione Sociale Santa Lucia. The holiday homes represent an efficacious response to the emerging motivations for travel and a new sensitivity towards social and sustainable tourism. The growing opportunities for this sector call for reflection on the mission and future positioning of the holiday homes within the tourist reception panorama, with the deriving choices relating to: the offer, consisting of values more than of services; the functions fulfilled, intimately bound up with the demands of the individual and the territory; the quality of the service, which is not generic but linked to the functions and can be measured in line with objective and subjective parameters. Strategic awareness, managerial capacity and elevated professionalism at all levels are the factors of legitimisation and success of this original reception formula.

Abstract:
Dedicated to the medina in the Mediterranean space, this book is essentially based on detailed historical and photographic research into the characteristics of city design and its evolution, as well as some case studies from direct experience. The main objective of the present study consists of its documentary and evocative value, without forgetting the analysis of the multiple architectural spaces with monumental complexes of extraordinary cultural importance arranged according to precise hierarchies and specific uses. The research summarises the different experiences from this immense Arab-Muslim architectural heritage and its urban evolution. These aspects are expressed both by the large number of case studies (from Cordoba to Palermo, passing through Fez, Séfrou, Marrakech and Tunis) as well as by the quality of the built spaces as a whole. The several contributions show an urban framework that is still legible and significant, consisting of grids of houses with forms, structures and functions that show a concentration of spaces, places and monuments stratified over time and developed in the Mediterranean countries, producing extremely diverse situations.

Full text
Abstract:
In this monograph, our final objective is to provide second order expansions of quantile functions of as many probability laws as possible. Second order expansions of quantile functions are important tools for finding extreme value domain of attraction of probability laws and for discovering rates of convergence in extreme value theory. We hope that readers will make profit of the results in their works by using the right expansions of quantile functions from the monograph. In that spirit, we apply the quantiles expansions exposed here to deliver the corresponding asymptotic laws of records values. <br><br> In this first edition, fifty four distributions are concerned. For each of those probability laws, full computations for finding the expansion and the asymptotic record value theory are entirely justified. We will regularly update the handbook by adding probability laws in later editions.

Abstract:
This article looks at the known foundational results on spatial models of elections. The issues of equilibrium existence, the characterization of equilibria (in terms of their social welfare properties), and the distance between equilibrium policy and positions of the candidates are examined. It then discusses the results of the case where candidates are able to give precise predictions of voters' behaviour precisely; the article also introduces the ‘Downsian model’. The article looks at two models of probabilistic voting, before finally moving on to consider the most common objective functions that are used to model the electoral incentives of different types of candidates.

Bader, Ralf M. Inner Sense and Time. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198724957.003.0007.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter explains how outer appearances end up in time, despite the fact that time is only the form of inner sense, on the basis that they are objects of representations of which we become aware in a temporal manner by means of an act of reflexive awareness. This temporalising function of inner sense is to be distinguished from the subjective temporal ordering that results from the reappropriation of mental states by means of inner intuition. Both these functions pertain to sensibility and are, in turn, to be distinguished from time determination, which is performed by the understanding. There is thus a three-fold progression: 1. the temporalising of appearances as a result of reflexive awareness (subjective simultaneity), 2. the subjective ordering of representings that occurs as part of the reappropriation of mental states (subjective succession), and 3. the objective ordering identified by means of time determination (objective simultaneity and succession).

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter offers an account of the truth conditions of sentences involving terms like ‘ought’. These truth conditions involve a function from worlds of evaluation to domains of worlds, and an ordering of the worlds in such domains. Every such ordering arises from a probability function and a value function—since it ranks worlds according to the expected value of certain propositions that are true at those worlds. With the objective ‘ought’, the probability function is the omniscient function, which assigns 1 to all truths and 0 to all falsehoods; with the subjective ‘ought’, the probability function captures the uncertainty of the relevant agent. The relevance of this account for understanding conditionals is explored, and this account is defended against objections. For present purposes, the crucial point is that any normative use of ‘ought’ is normative because of the value that is semantically involved. The fundamental normative concepts are evaluative.

Abstract:
Visual evoked potentials, brainstem auditory evoked potentials, and somatosensory evoked potentials are established clinical tests that are useful for the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Motor evoked potentials, cognitive event-related potentials, and vestibular evoked potentials also are used clinically to test additional pathways and functions. These objective, reproducible tools can identify clinically silent lesions, predict clinical deterioration risk, and localize levels of impairment. They differ from magnetic resonance imaging in that they assess function rather than anatomy and thereby fill a complementary role in clinical care. They also are useful in therapeutic trials because they can predict outcomes in parallel with, or earlier than, clinical examinations.

Abstract:
Dementia is a syndrome defined by a persistent, progressive decline in multiple cognitive functions to a degree sufficient to detrimentally impact activities of daily living and social function. The syndromic diagnosis of dementia is useful, since the general management and economic burden of these patients remains similar, irrespective of etiology. However, a more precise etiological diagnosis must be sought, since disease-specific treatment is increasingly likely to be appropriate. The term ‘mild cognitive impairment’ (MCI) refers to an objective impairment in a cognitive function (usually memory) which does not impair activities of daily living. The aim underlying the use of this term is to identify those with the early pathophysiological changes of neurodegenerative disease. Nonetheless, ‘MCI’ is not synonymous with ‘early dementia’, as a significant proportion of those with MCI will not worsen. The term should therefore be used cautiously.
