Redundancy became very common these days. As a consequence unknown brownfields are appearing still faster. Apartment houses owned by municipality became one of these places, as well. There are hundreds of apartments empty nowadays in the city centre of Brno. All of these unused spaces are misunderstood opportunity. Great potential can be used for necessary urban regeneration and re-occupation of the city centre. The only obstacle seems to be missing strategy and general conception. It’s essential to focus on advantages while every house is unique and offers uncountable options of use. Forgotten places can be great opportunity with a new strategy. Activation of houses would bring a new community and would help to reuse inner spaces within urban structure on the background of real sustainable development and compact city principles.

The Renewal Project of the Mikulov Town Center focuses primarily on its cultural heritage, consisting of reconstruction of the original Národný dom on the main square and new buildings of the Cultural House supplemented by the Art Multifunctional Gallery at the Kapucínská Street. The social cultural complex of buildings is a solution to the problems of cultural and physical connection between the city center and its immediate surroundings. After the reconstruction, the Národný dom has a supranational position in the form of conference rooms, a tourist-information center and an educational center. The present building is complemented by a new building of the Cultural House, which houses a multifunctional social hall suitable for theater performance, lectures or dance entertainment. Another kind of art experience offers Galleries on the Walls, which open their premises directly on the street and also shelter smaller outdoor cultural events in the city. The main idea of the project is to connect the square with the alley and then the city park. The building is a passage that directly connects to the original Národný dom and opens the possibility of moving from the main square to Kapucínska street. The exposed renovated bastion then interconnects the level of the park with the street level and is complemented by a view overlooking the St. Kopeček.

The main subject of the thesis is a revision of current area framing northwest part of Žerotín Square, that nowadays consists of so called White house (center for children health care and a seat of a medical school). The design is based on theoretical situation concerning the removal of White house and therefore it uses the newly existing place as a subject for new architectural solution. The solution emphasizes the completion of current block of buildings with large courtyard and corner between Žerotín Square and Veveří street, which is very important for traffic. The thesis is focusing on finding the right form, scale and functional content which would reflect the importance of the location, especially focusing on the Brno’s ring road that goes directly to Denisovy sady and accessibility of this city’s part. It also respects the design of the back side of the Red Church. The design uses the newly existing place as a location for new apartment building that reflects the scale of similar buildings in Marešov and other nearby streets and it also proposes administration building as an architectural solution for this location, which would be used as a seat for both municipal and national institutions.

In these days, a new occasion has come. Military and industrial areas, which were always thoroughly separated from the town centres, have been now releasing from their original activity. There are huge free building sites in the middle of the cities, waiting for the urban architects.

The present work provides a general description of the development of sewerage system in the world and in the Czech Republic. This is supplemented with the most commonly used materials and legislative links. The main objective of this thesis is to conduct a detailed description of a construction-technical survey of the sewer network city Stříbro. It contains documentation of the status quo, construction problems and defects in the sewer network in the next section, then the data obtained with the use of CCTV survey, evaluate and suggest restoring the city sewer system city Stříbro. The reason for the development is to create a recovery plan for the purpose of efficient operation of the sewer.

Nowadays water in Brno is mostly packaged in plastic bottles. Is there any opportunity to give the habitant of Brno reminiscence of 19th century urban atmosphere, so-called "Little Venice"? The river as live element brings movement to the static topography. Today its feature in cities is certanly required as a city-forming maker, the basic topographical landmark. A suitable factor in creating boundaries. Boundary that divides, combines, defines, orients. It divides the dense building structure of the city and delivers the necessary cleanup, space for relaxing and meeting. After a thorough analysis of Brno streams were defined areas of interest. It has become the resolution of the diploma thesis, which should be a starting guide for restoration and interconnection of watercourses to everyday life of citizens in the city of Brno. Best idea became a resumption of the creek Ponávka. The project aims to return not only Ponávka itself from Brno's underground, but also a return to medieval ideals due to a water feature on the city streets.

The objective of this dissertation is resolving the issues of both form and function of water courses in a present-day city. The dissertation focuses primarily on water courses which may be described as man-made, i.e. those resembling a canal, and addresses their prospective revitalization within the context of urban renewal and development in the present-day post-industrial era. The introduction includes a comprehensive analysis of the historical and typological development of artificial water courses, essential for grasping the connections as well as the current overall state of water courses in an urbanized setting. Detailed attention is devoted in particular to the most frequently occurring artificial water course - i.e. the race. The dissertation strives to defend the irreplaceable role of the water course as a public space in the urban landscape and - consequently - also its prospective essential revitalization. Examples, especially from throughout Western Europe, are used to demonstrate particular solutions, approaches and strategies to predominantly artificial water course renewal within the urban environment. The dissertation also devotes attention to the tools used in reaching relevant solutions.

Over the years, every major city turns into a knot of intractable problems: overpopulation, traffic jams, environmental degradation. Some countries make a faster conversion from an industrial development to an information growth phase, than the infrastructural changes take place. Therefore, environmental design and construction would not be short-termed, but rather will be the long-term targets for all the groups associated with the construction. The healthy living is one of the most important reasons to start a complicated long-term reconstruction of eco-cities. Successful ecological reconstitution requires a knowledge about already implemented exemplary solutions. For this purpose, the dissertation analyzes the basic ecological problems of settlements, analyzing the examples of approaches to improve the environmental performance of cities on the reference of foreign experience and creates criteria and principles for designing urban structures for healthy living in CR.

Following practical part deals with the previous themes in the context of the particular immovable monument, the monastery of St. Francis of Assisi in Votice. This thesis analyzes the possibilities of financing the rehabilitation and maintenance of historical buildings in the Czech Republic with the practical application of the city Vimperk. The theoretical part discusses the importance of cultural heritage and the preservation of monuments, including its legislation and the manner of its organization. Various options for financing of survival sights both from domestic and foreign sources are discussed in detail. First the South Bohemian town Vimperk is introduced with monuments in its territorial jurisdiction in the practical part. Furthermore, this part approaches the system of the performance of local public administration and system for implementing conservation at the level of the city and South Region. A large space is devoted to the analysis and evaluation of sources of funding utilized conservation in this city, there are also recommended other appropriate support options. The subsidy programs of the South Bohemian Region, the Ministry of Culture, European and other foreign funds are mentioned. The amount of tables and graphs are added especially in this part for the better illustration. Information needed for the development of this work were obtained from the literature, Internet resources and personal consultations at the municipal office Vimperk and ROP Southwest.

The aim of the study was to evaluate long-term state and development of forest regeneration in the area of forest management Deblín (Lesy města Brna, a.s.). Spruce (41,09 %) is the most represented evergreen tree (conifer). Forest management file 45 is that the most represented. 10 years' time period was selected for survey of the state of regeneration (forest management plan 2002 -- 2011). On the basis of the available forest management plan and forest management records the ratio of natural and artificial regeneration in every year was stated - for individual forest management files and whole forest management. Part of the work was also a field survey to assess the forest establishment. On forest management Deblín there were regenerated approximately 222 hectare (7 %) during the years 2002 -- 2011, from that amount 74% was artificial regeneration and 26 % was a share of natural regeneration. Restoring forest area on forest management file 451 is 23 % from which 91 % is artificial regeneration. Natural reproduction wasn't shown on forest management file 017 and forest management file 253. Natural reproduction (59 %) predominates on forest management file 456. On the average 6500 pieces/hectare were planted. Spruce represented only about 29 % and scotch pine about 9 % in artificial regeneration during the years 2002 -- 2011. On the other hand, the planting of oak (about 25 %) and larch (about 14 %) raised. Average costs for regeneration of 1 hectare of forest were 56 306 CZK in the year 2005, 40 347 CZK in the year 2006 and 45 909 CZK per hectare in the year 2007. From the all 20 analysed young forests four weren't evaluated as established after 7 years' time from planting. The limiting factor was the game or unsuitable species composition.

The objective of this thesis is using a series of field investigations to determine the status and potential of natural regeneration of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) on the area of interest "The Forests of The City of Brno, Corp.". Based on the results of field investigations we can deduce on fertility of Douglas fir, status and parameters of natural regeneration, intervals of seed years and dispersal possibilities of natural regeneration from the parent growth. The work consists of two different parts, theoretical and methodological (practical). The first part analyses theoretical aspects of the solved issue and the second part is devoted mainly to the methodological procedures. Of the 100 analyzed growths was located 86 % on nutrient habitats. In 77 % of cases occurred in the growths Douglas fir as wood disseminated. All growths over 80 years are spawning: 33% slightly, 58% moderate and 9% richly. Without natural regeneration was recorded only 17 % of growths. The height of Douglas fir grow under vegetation of 1,3 meters can be expected in the age of 11--12 years.

The work deals with the analysis of production and economic parameters of plantation short rotation coppice LMB in LS Deblín. Production plantation was assessed after 7 and 8 years since its inception through a network of inventory plots and stencil poplar. Surveys to be wood volume (m3) and the total biomass (o.d.t). Plantation economy was measured as the difference between revenues and costs. The survey was also regenerative experiment to assess the influence of the width of the cuts on the growth of poplar saplings. Total volume production of tree plantations for 2012 was set at 46,95 +/-9,7 m3. Total volume production of tree plantations for 2013 was set at 63,41 m3 +/-10,5 m3. Total dry weight biomass for 2012 amounted to 23,31 t/ha ie 3,33 t/ha/year. The following year, the total biomass dry weight was for 8,42 t/ha greater. The average production was also greater, it reached 3,97 o.d.t/ha/year. The total cost of the plantation in the first rotation reached 79 022 CZK. The cost of timber harvesting in 2012 amounted to 7 485 CZK. The total yield of the plantation in 2012 was 72 906 CZK. The profit in 2012 amounted to -6 116 CZK . Total revenue for 2013 amounted to 99 249 CZK. The profit in 2013 amounted to 20 227 CZK. Next experiment shows vigorous sprouting capacity. Wider cuts (3 lines) is generally larger than the cuts closer (2 lines). It was also found that the wider lines is greater proportion of sprouts in the greatest height class (+2 m).

Founding and Development of the Town of Jemnice; the Town's Cultural Heritage Protection PhDr. Martina Indrová THESIS ABSTRACT Jemnice, a smaller town with approximately five thousand inhabitants, lies near the border encountering of three historic lands - Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. Similar to places of this sort, this fact influenced strongly its appearance and the life within the town walls. We are poorly informed about the foundation of this town. In recent years, Jemnice however attracted the attention of experts; so the new fragments can be added to the mosaic of the town history. There were more reasons why Jemnice stayed away from the main interest of researchers. The most influencing circumstance appeared after World War II, when, for its location near the Austrian frontier, Jemnice found itself at the edge of a new border area. That fact of the matter substantially limited and delayed the town forwarding. The source basis for the history of Jemnice demands very careful and critical attitude. The so called Boček forgeries influenced expert opinions on the beginnings of the town for a long time. In 1832, the town suffered fire damage that destroyed not only many architectural monuments, but also most of old municipal books and documents. Industrial heritage and urban regeneration: New perspectives for the district of Atlampa in Mexico City Abstract in English The relationship between cities and industry has been the subject of research ever since the process of industrialization began in the 18th century. The interest around it has only grown once industry started leaving urban centers in the mid 20th century, forcing cities to evolve to fulfill new functions. This posed a challenge to urban planners and heritage professionals, who had to find solutions together to preserve important industrial sites without restraining the city from evolving. The present thesis explores the different approaches commonly used to address this challenge and analyzes their feasibility for the case of Atlampa, a historical industrial district in Mexico City that has stagnated for decades despite showing great urban potential and heritage value. The core of the thesis is a comparative study of former industrial districts with similar circumstances, which were identified through a diagnosis of Atlampa. The comparison analyzes the urban planning and heritage conservation approaches in each case and determines what could be a feasible and desirable strategy for the urban regeneration of Atlampa. This diploma thesis attends to the landscape character, the methodics of the evaluation of landscape character and the influence of mining on the landscape character. Příbram, influenced by uranium mining during last century, was chosen as a model area. The aim of this thesis is a comparison of chosen methodics of the evaluation of landscape character in the term of mining district and a creation of new methodics specialized for model area. The thesis focus on the landscape character and restoration ecology in mining areas in theoretical part. There is a description of landscape character protection and preservation, also in terms of law, reclamations and uranium mining. Below, the four chosen methodics are mentioned. In practical part, the diploma thesis characterizes the model area, its history and also current situation including reclamation made. Then there are a comparison of chosen methodics of landscape character evaluation according to elected criteria and a project of methodics for to a evaluation of chosen area. In this thesis was created a medium-term draft of actions for the local development needs of village Staré Město pod Landštejnem based on economic, social and organizational possibilities that the village has. This draft was based on the analysis of themes from a questionnaire survey among residents of the village, interviews with local actors, existing development documents related to the community and the author's own ideas. A part of this thesis is the geographical characteristics of the village area and the analysis of literature dealing with the countryside, especially its local and regional development, spatial planning and territorial development of rural settlements and the surrounding landscape, including the analysis of materials prepared for the municipality. Another important output of the thesis is to summarize and supply the existing principles for spatial and landscape planning in the village.
