Abstract:
The problems of non-verbal behavior remain in the shadow of the modern ethnomusicology so far. Meanwhile, spatial behavior of singers, the poses and gestures used by them during the singing are language of culture, not less informative, than musical and verbal language, but at the same time more emotional, expressive and available. Gesture as body language is usually associated with the movement of the arm, palm, head, shoulders, legs. In the present study, we operate with the broader meaning of the word “gesture” as a behavior (from Lat. Gestura). The spatial behavior of performers during the ceremony, the generally accepted postures and gestures as non-verbal language of culture are discussed in the article on the material of the Udmurt ritual song tradition. The forest landscape influences the behavioral, as well as linguistic, religious, sound picture of the world of the Finno-Ugrians. The connection between the natural geographic environment and the “mental warehouse” of the Udmurts was observed by ethnographers as early as the end of the 19th century; they noted restraint in expressing impressions, silence, extraordinary shyness and the boundless ability of Udmurts to endure. The same is noted by modern scientists. In speech communication, for example, there is an unspoken rule not to express loudly and openly your emotions; it is not customary to actively gesticulate, to speak loudly. The findings of scientists suggest that the Udmurt communicative culture belongs to the low-kinesic. The stereotypes about the modesty and timidity of the Udmurts collapse when analyzing the Udmurt rituals, in which the idea of producing magic dominates to extend the genus or future harvest. Many behavioral prohibitions are not only lifted; moreover, obscene gestures, indecent behavior are becoming a necessary condition for rituals. Singers can stomp their feet heavily, beat the rhythm with loud beats of iron objects, sing while standing on chairs. In other local traditions, the magic of production can be embodied in the body language of singers in slow rocking, round dances. The key moment of the spatial behavior of the singing participants of these rites is a side-to-side movement as a symbol of the growth of cereal crops. Ritual gestures of a handshake, bowing of the knees as communicative gestures are considered in the article. Other gestures of singers (alternating between the left and right foot subhemps, putting the palm to the mouth while singing) are designed to enhance the expressiveness of the musical rhythm or create a special sound effect. It is concluded that the song ritual communication of the Udmurts, in contrast to everyday verbal communication, is characterized by a higher level of emotionality, which is reflected in body language.

Abstract:
The media space of "South Park" is organized according to M.M. Bakhtins carnival model of culture. It is bases on such attributes of folk laughter culture as bawdy gestures, obscene vocabulary, exaggerated sexuality, carnal symbols, grotesque and mockery of the upper classes. The series' creators, however, make principal conceptual changes in Bakhtins modeL If the classic carnival enhanced the hierarchical system of the power and strengthened the collective mentality, "South Park" by laughing at mass culture values weakens the crowd's instincts and encourages the emergence of a self-conscious individual alien to any ideology. The analysis of certain episodes has shown that new identity patterns are being formed in the media space of mass culture and these patterns are becoming quite common not only in Hollywood films but in political and social spheres as well.

Abstract:
Aggressive driving behavior can be manifested in a wide variety of unsafe driving practices such as tailgating, honking, obscene and rude gestures, flashing high beams at slower traffic, and speeding. According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2000 report, aggressive driving was a major cause of traffic accidents and injury. The present study was designed to systematically examine 5 previously developed scales related to aggressive driving behavior using a factor analytic approach. A sample of 253 students were administered these five questionnaires and the data were coded and statistically analyzed using a principal components analysis with Varimax rotation on the 81 items of the five combined scales. Nineteen components accounting for 67.4% of the variance were retained. Component scores were computed for the 19 components and then correlated with gender. Three significant ( p < .05) positive r's were found between gender; factors 11 (bright lights action), 12 (delaying action), and 19 (driving drunk). Males in the sample reported performing these actions more than females. There was one negative r between gender and factor 4 (considerate thoughts), suggesting that females reported more pleasant thoughts than males when angered or annoyed on the road.

Abstract:
Violence by young people is one of the most visible forms of social disorder in urban settlements. This study assesses the causes and consequences of youth violence in the Kumasi metropolis. The study design was a nonexperimental cross-sectional survey. A mixed method approach facilitated the random sampling of 71 young people in the Kumasi metropolis through a stratified procedure between December 2014 and November 2015. Ten (10) participants were purposively selected and enrolled in a focus group discussion. Descriptive statistics formed the basis for the analysis. This was supported with a matched discourse analysis of the emerging themes. More than half of the youth (39, 54.9%) demonstrated history of ever engaging in violence in the past one year of whom 24 (61.5%) were without formal education. The frequency of the violence perpetuation ranged from daily engagement (3, 4%) to weekly engagement in violence (12, 17%). Principally, the categories of youth violence were manifested in noise making, rape, murder, stealing, drug addiction, obscene gestures, robbery, sexual abuse, and embarrassment. Peer pressure and street survival coping approaches emerged as the pivotal factors that induced youth violence. Addressing youth violence requires an integrative framework that incorporates youth perspectives, government, chiefs, and nongovernmental organizations in Ghana, and religious bodies.

Abstract:
Background: Bullying is threat or physical use of force, aiming at the individual, another person, specific community or group which can result in injury, death, physical damage or some development disorders or deficiency. These actions can consist of physical contact, verbal, through obscene gestures, or through intentional exclusion from group. Despite the common assumption that bullying is a normal part of childhood and encompasses minor teasing and harassment, researchers increasingly find that bullying is a problem that can be detrimental to students’ well-being. Bullying is a psychological problem connected with public health. Keeping this background in mind, this study was conducted to find out the prevalence of bullying and its association with socio-demographic characteristics in school going children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done among 921 students of Class VII and VIII, belonging to both Government and Private schools in Imphal West District, Manipur in 2017, using a self administered questionnaire. Data was entered in IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 21.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp software for windows. Descriptive statistics like mean, SD and percentage was used. Chi square test was used to test for association between proportions of the data. A probability value of <0.05 was taken as significant. Results: Out of 921 participants, 32.4% were victims of bullying, 16.7% participants were both bully and victim. Decrease in self-confidence, reluctance to go to school and feeling unsafe at school were the consequences after getting bullied. Conclusions: Almost half of the students were victims of bullying. The high prevalence of bullying and victimization shown in this study suggests the need of prevention and intervention programs at the start of elementary school.

SummaryAccording to the World Health Organization (2004), road traffic accidents are one of the ten leading causes of death. Many of these fatalities involve aggressive driving. P. Ellison-Potter et al. (2001) suggest that aggressive driving is any driving behaviour that intentionally endangers others psychologically, physically, or both. Examples of aggressive driving include behaviours such as excessive speeding, tailgating, horn honking, traffic weaving, profanity, obscene gestures, headlight flashing, etc. In order to understand this phenomenon, researchers have examined aggressive driving in terms of several levels of variables such as sociocultural, situational or personal (Valleries et al., 2005). Moreover, self-assessment of driving skills is a central dimension of driving activity. The evaluation of specific skills may be conceptualized by self-efficacy. Self-efficacy refers to individuals’ belief in their ability to accomplish specific goals (Bandura, 1995).The article reports the findings concerning the relationship between aggression, anger and self-efficacy among Lithuanian drivers. The sample consisted of 196 drivers (99 males, 97 females) aged 18 to 74 years. The Buss–Perry Aggression Questionnaire (Buss and Perry, 1992), the Driving Anger Scale (Deffenbacher et al., 1994), and the Adelaide Driving Self-efficacy Scale (George et al., 2007) were used in the study. Participants were administered also a questionnaire measuring a variety of demographical characteristics and driving-related factors. The results showed that more aggressive drivers tend to express the higher levels of driving anger than do less aggressive drivers. A negative relation between driving anger and driving self-efficacy was found. Further, the driving self-efficacy was higher in males than in females. Research findings indicate that there are gender differences in aggression, i.e. male drivers are more aggressive than female drivers. There are significant age differences in driver anger. In addition, high anger and aggression were related to unsafe driving behaviours. Seat-belt wearing tends to be less frequent among male drivers than among females. Aggression was found to be a predictor of crash-related outcomes. Finally, limitations of the study are discussed. Keywords: aggressive driving, aggression, driving anger, driving self-efficacy.

Abstract:
This paper argues that ‘the Anthropocene’ is a deeply depoliticizing notion. This de-politicization unfolds through the creation of a set of narratives, what we refer to as ‘AnthropoScenes’, which broadly share the effect of off-staging certain voices and forms of acting. Our notion of the Anthropo-obScene is our tactic to both attest to and undermine the depoliticizing stories of ‘the Anthropocene’. We first examine how various AnthropoScenes, while internally fractured and heterogeneous, ranging from geo-engineering and earth system science to more-than-human and object-oriented ontologies, place things and beings, human and non-human, within a particular relational straitjacket that does not allow for a remainder or constitutive outside. This risks deepening an immunological biopolitical fantasy that promises adaptive and resilient terraforming, an earth system management of sorts that permits life as we know it to continue for some, while turning into a necropolitics for others. Second, we develop a post-foundational political perspective in relation to our dramatically changing socio-ecological situation. This perspective understands the political in terms of performance and, in an Arendtian manner, re-opens the political as forms of public-acting in common that subtracts from or exceeds what is gestured to hold socio-ecological constellations together. We conclude that what is off-staged and rendered obscene in ‘the AnthropoScenes’ carries precisely the possibility of a return of the political.

Abstract:
In recent discussions there has been a tendency to refer to ‘gesture’ and ‘sign’ as if these are distinct categories, sometimes even as if they are in opposition to one another. Here I trace the historical origins of this distinction. I suggest that it is a product of the application to the analysis of sign languages of a formalist model of language derived from structural linguistics, on the one hand, and, on the other, of a cognitive-psychological view of ‘gesture’ that emerged in the latter half of the twentieth century. I suggest that this division between ‘gesture’ and ‘sign’ tends to exaggerate differences and obscure areas of overlap. It should be replaced by a comparative semiotics of the utterance uses of visible bodily action. This will be better able to articulate the similarities and differences between how kinesics is used, according to whether and how it is employed in relation to other communicative modalities such as speech.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examined speaking-rate-induced spectral and temporal variability of F2 formant trajectories for target words produced in a carrier phrase at speaking rates ranging from fast to slow. F2 onset frequency measured at the first glottal pulse following the stop consonant release in target words was used to quantify the extent to which adjacent consonantal and vocalic gestures overlapped; F2 target frequency was operationally defined as the first occurrence of a frequency minimum or maximum following F2 onset frequency. Regression analyses indicated 70% of functions relating F2 onset and vowel duration were statistically significant. The strength of the effect was variable, however, and the direction of significant functions often differed from that predicted by a simple model of overlapping, sliding gestures. Results of a partial correlation analysis examining interrelationships among F2 onset, F2 target frequency, and vowel duration across the speaking rate range indicated that covariation of F2 target with vowel duration may obscure the relationship between F2 onset and vowel duration across rate. The results further suggested that a sliding based model of acoustic variability associated with speaking rate change only partially accounts for the present data, and that such a view accounts for some speakers' data better than others.

Abstract:
La darrera part de la tesi consta d’un extens repertori de la gestualitat obscena emprada pels dos directors sicilians.<br>This thesis traces a journey through three of the mainstays of the unique universe of Daniele Ciprì and Franco Maresco: the land, the body and the obscene gesture. Using a cross-disciplinary and comparative methodology, which brings into play both aesthetic and anthropological concepts, demonstrates how these three categories establish a relationship based on a mutual need, with the ability to create expressive material without the approved and conventional processes. Thus, Ciprì and Maresco’s original and radical vision of cinema and television reaches the limit of representation, making it resistant and allowing their images to survive the passage of time. The last part of the thesis consists of an extensive repertoire of the obscene gestures used by two Sicilian directors.
