Abstract:
ABSTRACT This education case teaches students Continuous Auditing/Continuous Monitoring (CA/CM) using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connections from students' Microsoft Access (Access) to tables in Microsoft SQL Server (SQL Server). First, the institution's database administrator (DBA) imports the student tables provided with the Teaching Notes into the institution's SQL Server with read-only access. In Access, students create ODBC connections to the SQL Server student tables. Then, students create Access queries using the ODBC-linked tables to monitor for anomalies. During a scheduled week, the DBA, in coordination with the faculty member, enters anomalies in the SQL Server student tables at random times, and students run their Access queries to identify the anomalies.

Abstract:
For commercial database management system is not suitable for storing sensitive data, the data is often encrypted in application before keeping into database. Using UDF (User Defined Function) can simplify the encrypting procedure, but it can't handle Lob (Long object) data. A schema of enhancing user authentication and encrypting Lob data in ODBC (Open Database Connection) driver for database is prosed. By adding necessary attributes of user authentication and cipher algorithm to encrypt Lob data in ODBC driver, the security of data stored in database is improved. Experiments show that the schema is transparent, efficient, easy to implement and reliable.

Abstract:
Increased adoption of hybrid and electrical vehicles as well as renewable energy systems are driving the innovation in power module packaging. Thermal substrate, one of the major components of power modules, is not an exception, and technological advancements are necessary to meet increased reliability requirements. DuPont has developed a thermally conductive polymer film that provides very low thermal resistance and very high insulation. The film can be bonded to conductive and thick metallic layers and this polymer equivalent of DBC shows very high reliability in addition to high performance characteristics. Electrically insulating layers within a power electronics module are critical for separating circuitry from thermal management layers. Electrical insulating substrates typically used in power electronics modules utilize a ceramic layer, comprised most commonly of either Al2O3, AlN, or Si3N4. Thin Cu layers are bonded to either side of the substrate using a direct bond Cu (DBC) or active metal brazing (AMB) process. These processes involve bonding metallization layers to both sides of the ceramic at a high temperature as bonding to only one side would cause deformation during the cooling phase. Typical metal thickness bonded to either side of the ceramic is about 0.3–0.6 mm as the high temperature manufacturing process does not allow very thick metals to be bonded and this limits the heat spreading capability of the thermal substrate. DuPont's new Temprion™ Organic Direct Bond Copper (ODBC) address aforementioned problems, increasing thermal durability and reliability as well as enabling system layer suppression. Temprion™ ODBC's dielectric layer will absorb thermo-mechanical stress from the metals due to CTE mismatch, dramatically improving durability of the system. In addition, various kinds of metals including Cu and Al can be easily bonded to Temprion™ DB films through simple process. There are no thickness limitations on bonding metal sheets and metal attached at the bottom can be used as an integrated heat sink/baseplate. Al2O3 and Si3N4-based substrates were utilized as a baseline for reliability comparison with the DuPont substrates. The industry-standard substrates in used in this study have a thickness of 0.3 and 0.8 mm for the Cu metallization layers and 0.38 and 0.32 mm for the insulating layer respectively for Al2O3 an Si3N4 insulators. DuPont ODBC substrates were fabricated by attaching a polyimide layer to a layer of 0.8-mm-thick Cu. The polyimide and bottom Cu layer cross-sectional footprints are both 50.8 mm × 50.8 mm. The corners of both layers were filleted with various radii (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and reversed 2.0 mm) to explore the impact of different stress concentrations between the metallization and insulating layers. The top Cu metallization was inset 2.0 mm from the perimeter of the electrically-insulating substrate and bottom Cu metallization.10 samples each of the DuPont ODBC and industry Al2O3 substrates were placed in a thermal shock chamber and cycled between temperature extremes of −40°C and 200°C. Substrates were inspected every 1000 cycles. After 5000 cycles, the ODBC substrates experienced no hipot failures, but preliminary edge delamination was visually observed. Al2O3 substrates all failed after 50 thermal cycles.Five DuPont ODBC samples were placed in a thermal chamber and subjected to an elevated temperature of 175°C. After 2000 hours, no hipot failures were observed, but edge delamination was again observed.Five DuPont ODBC samples were attached to a cold plate with Kapton tape. Heater cartridges were attached to the top of the substrates with Kapton tape and thermocouples were placed in several locations through the package. The heater cartridges were alternated between on and off states to allow for the substrates to cycle between −40°C and +200°C. While the change between the maximum and minimum temperatures is smaller for the power cycling test compared to the thermal cycling test, the heater cartridge and cold plate create a thermal gradient within the samples that is not possible with passive thermal cycling. After 2000 hrs cycles of testing, no hipot failures or edge delamination have been observed. Herein we show that the DuPont ODBC substrate design is a promising alternative to traditional industry substrates based on ceramic insulators. The reliability of the substrate design has been demonstrated under several thermomechanical accelerated tests and the electrical and thermal performance has been measured. Future work will include reliability comparisons to other industry substrates, including thermal shock testing of substrates with HPS, AlN, and Si3N4 ceramic layers. Thermal models will correlate thermal resistance values measured by the transient thermal tester and compare the ODBC substrate performance to industry substrates within a commercialized power electronics module. The modeling will also optimize the thickness of the metallization layers within the ODBC substrates to minimize the junction temperature of the switching devices.

Abstract:
A novel high speed and ultra long-haul radio-over-fiber (ROF) system based on Dual Photoelectric Arms Coherent Modulation (DPACM) and Optical Duo-Binary Coding (ODBC) is proposed, and demonstrated. The signal spectrum bandwidth, generated by ODBC based on the first order DPACM, is half of non-return-to-zero (NRZ ) signal spectrum bandwidth. The secondary order DPACM generates a 40-GHz Millimeter-wave (mm-wave) that is transmitted over fiber (ROF). The simulation results show that, the bit rate can be up to 40 Gbps and the transmission distance is over 1500 Km, based on the ROF system with a 0 dBm continuous-wave laser source, multiple stages Er-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), a standard single mode fiber (SSMF) with a dispersion of 17 ps/nm/Km and a attenuation of 0.2 dB/Km.

Abstract In the beginning World Wide Web was syntactic and the content itself was only readable by humans. The modern web combines existing web technologies with knowledge representation formalisms. In this sense, the Semantic Web proposes the mark-up of content on the web using formal ontology that structure essential data for the purpose of comprehensive machine understanding. On the syntactical level, standardization is an important topic. Many standards which can be used to integrate different information sources have evolved. Beside the classical database interfaces like ODBC, web-oriented standard languages like HTML, XML, RDF and OWL increase in importance. As the World Wide Web offers the greatest potential for sharing information, we will base our paper on these evolving standards.

Abstract:One of the most important categories of decision-support systems in medicine are data driven systems where the inference engine is linked to a database. It is, therefore, important to find methods that facilitate the implementation of database queries referred to in the knowledge modules. A method is described for linking clinical databases to a knowledge base with Arden Syntax modules. The method is based on a query meta-database including templates for SQL queries which is maintained by a database administrator. During knowledge module authoring the medical expert refers only to a code in the query meta-database; no knowledge is needed about the database model or the naming of attributes and relations. The method uses standard tools, such as C++ and ODBC, which makes it possible to implement the method at many platforms and to link to different clinical databases in a standardized way.

Abstract:
Much attention among computer-using historians has been focused on the intricacies of record linkage, with the aim of constructing life histories for selected population groups. Partly because efforts have been concentrated on linkage procedures, less work has been done on the development of methods for analyzing the resulting longitudinal data sets. This article presents methodological aspects of our work with a migration study based on longitudinal records from two Swedish historical databases. The quality and organization of the databases make record linkage much easier than is true of most cross-sectional population censuses. Thus, after briefly presenting record linkage procedures, we have chosen to focus instead on the issues raised by the ensuing analysis of the datasets. Of special interest from a computer user's standpoint, is the employment of the Open Data Base Connection (ODBC interface, allowing the statistical programs to read data directly from a relational data base. Also of interest, especially from an historian's perspective, is the set of procedures developed to analyze different types of life-course events.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to develop an Ethernet-based telemedical blood pressure monitor. Although telemedical applications utilizing a variety of media are currently available, present systems do not provide remote signals with regard to integrated vital information, including blood pressure and pulse rate. In addition, the existing systems are largely embedded-structure, single-access, single-process models. Thus, we developed an Ethernet-based blood pressure monitor which includes a client/server structure, and is a real-time multi-access and multi-process system. The client for the developed system uses the Microsoft Comm Control in Microsoft Visual Basic and ODBC to connect Microsoft Chart Control with DB for a user interface. The server is programmed with the J2SE development platform, in a multi-thread structure. The system is capable of receiving data simultaneously. A TCP/IP socket was used for the Ethernet connection. The JDBC was applied to connect with the database for the saving, searching, and sampling of the data. The data transfer failure rate of the developed system was determined to be less than 0.05%.

Abstract:
Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima fatty (OLETF) rats develop hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and mild obesity, which are characteristic of human non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. We have shown that two recessive genes, ODB1 mapped on the X chromosome and ODB2 mapped on chromosome 14, are involved in the induction of the diabetes in OLETF rats. Recently we found that OLETF rats are the naturally occurring cholecystokinin type A receptor (CCKAR) gene knockout rats. In this study, we focused on the genotype of CCKAR gene and the ODB1 gene in regulation of glucose homeostasis in the F2 cross of the OLETF rats. Relatively high plasma glucose levels were observed in the F2 offspring with the homozygously disrupted CCKAR gene. A synergistic effect for increasing plasma glucose levels in F2 rats between disrupted CCKAR gene and the ODB1 gene was shown. The CCKAR gene was found to map very close to ODB2 by a linkage analysis using microsatellite markers. These results suggest that CCKAR gene maintains normoglycemia in rats.

Abstract:
Whether the test of free-flight stall/spin can be carried out successfully, it depends on the airborne anti-stall parachute system, the performance indexes of the system are related to the test pilots’ safety directly. There are large numbers of test signals in the system and half of them are transient pulse signals, so it requires high real-time capability and data throughput level. Thus the danger of the Ignition testing experiment, Telemetry Tracking Monitoring is requisite. To satisfy the need of measuring electric parameters of an airborne anti-stall parachute system, a multi-thread real-time DAQ system of multi-task is constructed, using dual-core industrial computer and high-speed DAQ card as its core, LabWindows/CVI as VI software platform. By a method of dual-core parallel processing through OS kernel, system accomplishes multi-channel data acquisition with high real-timing and huge data throughput, and through TCP/IP, ODBC interface, remote measurement and database management is also accomplished. At the last, the system design a modularize software by DLL technology, packaging several functional modules in DLL form. This system implements the multi-thread mechanism and its synchronization, TCP/IP communication and parallel processing under LabWindows/CVI platform. Finally high real-timing and reliability of this system are validated by experiment.

Abstract:
Modern NIR analysers produce valuable data for closed-loop process control and optimisation practically in real time. Thus it is highly important to keep them in the best possible shape. Quality assurance (QA) of NIR analysers is an interesting and complex issue because it is not only the instrument and sample handling that has to be monitored. At the same time, validity of prediction models has to be assured. A system for fully automated QA of NIR analysers is described. The system takes care of collecting and organising spectra from various instruments, relevant laboratory, and process management system (PMS) data. Validation of spectra is based on simple diagnostics values derived from the spectra. Predictions are validated against laboratory (LIMS) or other online analyser results (collected from PMS). The system features automated alarming, reporting, trending, and charting functions for major key variables for easy visual inspection. Various textual and graphical reports are sent to maintenance people through email. The software was written with Borland Delphi 7 Enterprise. Oracle and PMS ODBC interfaces were used for accessing LIMS and PMS data using appropriate SQL queries. It will be shown that it is possible to take actions even before the quality of predictions is seriously affected, thus maximising the overall uptime of the instrument.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to find appropriate forms of analysis of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) to obtain an assessment method, as fair as possible, for the students. The authors intend to ascertain if it is possible to control the quality of the MCQ contained in a bank of questions, implemented in Moodle, presenting some evidence with Item Response Theory (IRT) and Classical Test Theory (CTT). The used techniques can be considered a type of Descriptive Learning Analytics since they allow the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data generated from students’ assessment. Design/methodology/approach A representative data set of students’ grades from tests, randomly generated with a bank of questions implemented in Moodle, was used for analysis. The data were extracted from a Moodle database using MySQL with an ODBC connector, and collected in MS ExcelTM worksheets, and appropriate macros programmed with VBA were used. The analysis with the CTT was done through appropriate MS ExcelTM formulas, and the analysis with the IRT was approached with an MS ExcelTM add-in. Findings The Difficulty and Discrimination Indexes were calculated for all the questions having enough answers. It was found that the majority of the questions presented values for these indexes, which leads to a conclusion that they have quality. The analysis also showed that the bank of questions presents some internal consistency and, consequently, some reliability. Groups of questions with similar features were obtained, which is very important for the teacher to develop tests as fair as possible. Originality/value The main contribution and originality that can be found in this research is the definition of groups of questions with similar features, regarding their difficulty and discrimination properties. These groups allow the identification of difficulty levels in the questions on the bank of questions, thus allowing teachers to build tests, randomly generated with Moodle, that include questions with several difficulty levels in the tests, as it should be done. As far as the authors’ knowledge, there are no similar results in the literature.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a software tool to monitor the system configuration for Hospital Management System. The OAM tool monitors the system configurations after the user installs it into the system. The aim of this software is to monitor the system about its configurations and install the required softwares to the respective system. There are four tools in this application, Fintal, Piston, Naavi and Mapel. To install these, a technique of single file installation using batch scripting is used. Batch scripting is used to execute the installation files of softwares and the softwares are installed. These installation files of softwares will be embedded as execution commands in a single file called “windows batch file”, which should be saved with the extension as “.bat”. The installation that starts will be displayed in the command prompt to know whether the softwares are getting installed correctly. After each installation, the configuration and initialization of installed softwares will be displayed. The required softwares are to be installed. Each of these performs particular tasks that are required for the management of Hospitals. Fintal is used for overall management of Hospital. This is the most user-friendly part of OAM Tool. This handles overall administrative part of Hospitals. Piston is used for storing patient’s details. This stores the patients’ reports in detailed manner of each test the patient has undergone. Naavi is used for storing Laboratory details. The tests of each patient are stored here. And the last one, i.e., Mapel which is used for storing pharmaceuticals details (Medicines). It stores the details of medicines such as from which pharmaceuticals the medicines are purchased. The license of the hospital is also stored in this part of OAM Tool. All these together form an OAM Tool. This tool also manages other required softwares like, MySQL, ODBC drivers, etc. The management of Hospitals is very important as there is a need to maintain the patient details. This technique of installation is proposed in this paper to make the installation from hardware to remote installation such as, giving the access to the system in which the tool needs to be installed and to save the time of installation process.

Abstract:
Background Occult dorsal ganglion cysts (ODGC) require imaging or an operation for detection. It is currently unknown how often a radiologist identifies an ODGC on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and whether surgeon indication for MRI aids the radiologist in detection. Questions/Purposes The aim of the study was to investigate the following questions: how accurately do radiologists identify ODGC on MRIs? What factors may be associated with missed ODGCs? Patients and Methods We retrospectively studied patients who underwent an operation for an ODGC and had a preoperative wrist MRI. Radiology report and surgeon's notes were evaluated to determine whether identification of the ODGC was noted and whether the surgeon indicated that the MRI was to evaluate for an ODGC. MRIs were reviewed, dimensions of cysts measured and volume of cyst calculated. Results Twenty-four patients and 25 MRIs were analyzed. The radiologist identified the ODGC in 19 cases (76%). Fifteen of the 25 MRIs (60%) ordered had ODGC listed in the requisition comment by the ordering surgeon. Thirteen of these 15 (87%) ODGCs were seen by the radiologist. Ten of the 25 MRIs (40%) ordered did not mention ODGC in the requisition. Six of these 10 (60%) ODGCs were seen by the radiologist. The volume of the ODGCs missed by radiologists was smaller (mean, 0.049 cm3) than those the radiologists identified (mean, 0.31 cm3; p = 0.004). Conclusions Radiologists will not always identify the ODGC on an MRI, but they were more likely to if the surgeon was concerned for one. Hand surgeons should report suspicion of an ODGC on MRI requisition and review all imaging independently. Level of Evidence This is a Level III, prognostic study.

Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 737 Lipid rafts are highly ordered membrane domains that are enriched in cholesterol and sphingolipids and function in providing a scaffold to signal transduction. Altered raft assembly has been implicated in breast and colorectal cancer progression; rafts are essential to sustained p38K activation by GM-CSF and VEGFa in acute myeloid leukemia (Saulle et al. BJH, 2009). In a previous study, we showed that 10-(Octyloxy) decyl-2-(trimethylammonium) ethyl phosphate (ODPC), an alkylphospholipid, targets raft like domains in model membranes and induces apoptosis in leukemia cells, (ED-50 25mM - NB4), but spares normal hematopoietic and epithelial cells (dos Santos et al. BBACTA 2010). Here, we performed an unbiased quantitative proteomic screen of ODPC targets in lipid rafts. We used stable isotope labeling in cell culture (SILAC) to reveal proteins that are modulated by ODPC before the installation of apoptosis, to gain access to the primary mechanisms of drug action (Fig 1A, B and C). We used successive detergent extraction (Fig 1D) to isolate detergent resistant membranes (DRM) enriched in lipid rafts; blots with specific markers prove the quality of fractionation (Fig 1E). Proteins were considered modulated if: fold change of 2/0.5 or greater plus two or more quantification events and a P value <0.1. A small fraction of proteins was modulated by ODPC (Fig 1F). Of the 1426 proteins identified in the total extract, only one protein (0.07%) was upregulated. Of the 1314 proteins identified in the DRM, 6 proteins (0.45%) were donwregulated. Of these, 4 have predicted or validated palmitoylation sites (Fig 1F). We validated that ODPC downregulates LAT-2 (Fig 2A), an adaptor protein that is target to rafts by palmitoylation and is expressed in B cells and myeloid cells. Interesting, LAT-2 was not expressed in K562 (Fig 2A), a cell resistant to ODPC-induced apoptosis (Fig 1A and B). Moreover, ODPC induced a loss of LAT-2 in the lipid rafts of NB4 cells after 3h of treatment (Fig 2B). Since LAT-2 may function as an adaptor protein in AKT signalization (Roget et al. J.Immunol. 2008) we evaluate the effect of ODPC on the ATK pathway. Fig 2C shows that ODPC induces a downregulation of all components from AKT signaling, compatible with a membrane target drug. However, in functional experiments, ODPC inhibited AKT activation in NB4 cells by myeloid growth factors (MGF), after few minutes of incubation, in a similar way of the specific PI3K inhibitor Wortmannin (Fig 2D). Moreover, in these experiments, MGF induced a rapid and translation-dependent up regulation in LAT-2 expression in control treated cells (Fig 2E). This effect was partially suppressed by ODPC treatment and was suppressed by Wortmannin (Fig 2D). This suggests that LAT-2 translation is highly regulated and dependent on a functional AKT pathway. Indeed, phosphorylation of 4EBP-1 and ribossomal S6 kinase (S6K) with consequent upregulation of translation in the ribosome is downstream of PI3K/AKT/mTOR (Mamane et al. Oncogene, 2006). Moreover, we confirmed a hypophosphorilation state of S6K in the presence of ODPC or Wortmannin (Fig 2D). Interesting, we have identified two potential-palmitoylated ribosomal proteins (RP) to be downregulated in the lipid raft fraction of ODPC treated cells (Fig 1F). This finding confirms previous reports that a raft disruption treatment (methyl-β-cyclodextrin) causes downregulation of several RP (Foster, De Hoog and Mann. PNAS, 2003) and that palmitoylation target ribosome proteins to lipid rafts (Wei et al. MCP, 2010). This indicates that ODPC may present also a direct or indirect inhibitory effect on translational apparatus. Our results strongly indicate that ODPC acts on LAT-2 by interference with its protein-lipid interactions, since experimental-induced disturbances in lipid raft physiology recapitulate or increase ODPC effects on LAT-2 expression (Fig 3A and B). To further clarify the mechanism of LAT-2 downregulation we evaluate if it is degraded by the proteasome after ODPC or 2BrPA treatments. Fig 3C and D reveals that this is the case. This confirms the findings of Orr and McVicar (J.Leuk.Biol. 2011) of ubiquitin-proteasomal regulation of LAT-2 stability. Taken together, our results demonstrate that a lipid raft targeting drug may present several effects on signal transduction, causing a severe toxicity to leukemia cells. Moreover, adaptor proteins like LAT-2 emerge as possible new therapeutic targets in leukemia. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Abstract:
A new method was developed for the assay of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC)-antizyme complex, in which alpha-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO)-inactivated ODC was used to release active ODC competitively from the complex. ODC-antizyme complex was present in the extracts of hepatoma tissue-culture (HTC) cells and of ODC-stabilized variant HMOA cells, in much larger amounts in the latter. Cellular amounts of the complex fluctuated after a change of medium in a similar manner in HTC and HMOA cells, increasing during the period of ODC decay. After treatment with cycloheximide, the decay of ODC-antizyme complex in HMOA cells was more rapid than the decay of free ODC, but it was much slower than the decay of free ODC or complexed ODC in HTC cells. Administration of putrescine caused a rapid increase in the amount of ODC-antizyme complex in both HTC and HMOA cells, but nevertheless the decay of total ODC (free ODC plus ODC-antizyme complex) was more rapid with putrescine than with cycloheximide. These results suggested the possibility that ODC is degraded through complex-formation with antizyme. In contrast with complexed antizyme, free antizyme was not stabilized in HMOA cells.

Abstract:
Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is degraded in an ATP-dependent manner in vitro by the 26 S proteasome in the presence of antizyme, an ODC destabilizing protein induced by polyamines. In the present study we examined whether the proteasome catalyses ODC degradation in living mammalian cells. Lactacystin, the most selective proteasome inhibitor, strongly inhibited the degradation of ODC that had been induced in hepatoma tissue-culture (HTC) cells by refeeding with fresh medium. Furthermore the inhibitor inhibited the rapid degradation of ODC that had been induced by hypotonic shock. Interestingly, hypertonic shock was found to increase the proportion of ODC present as a complex with antizyme (the ratio of ODC–antizyme complex to total ODC). Cycloheximide, which partly inhibits rapid ODC degradation caused by hypertonic shock, also partly inhibited the increase in the ratio of ODC–antizyme complex to total ODC. These results suggest that a common ODC degradation pathway, namely the antizyme-dependent and 26 S proteasome-catalysed ODC degradation pathway, is also operating in intact cells for osmoregulated ODC degradation.
