Abstract:

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中正大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>84<br>This paper describes a User Interface that is based on a model for persistentcollections and their operations as implemented in an ODMG-93 [Cat 96] compliant database. Our User Interface is implemented using Java* applet [Jav 96]on the client side. This client generates ODMG-93 based Object Definition Language and query code that is sent over the network to an ODMG-93 compliantdatabase server. Besides, it also provides multimedia functions such as displaying image files and playing music files, and visiting WWW sites via theirURLs.* Java is a registered trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中正大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>84<br>According information sharing of the World Wide Web (WWW), everyonewith network connections can easily obtain access to information distributedaround the world. There are some protocols that contribute to such applications.A number of browsers have been developed on the WWW with similarfunctions, offering interfaces to users for browsing the web. For those simplebrowsing applications on the WWW, the interface design is quite straightforward. Users do not need to receive any special training to be able to use thebrowsers. And applications just arrange their data in a format which uses theWWW protocols. It is effortless to make the data service visible throughout theworld. Furthermore, the types of WWW service have recently been changing fromstatic data to interactive operations of all kinds. This change confirms thesharing idea of the web. Through the browser, users can get access to moreresources; not just static data, but also hardware resources. For instance, adatabase service may move beyond simple data retrieval to the creation of newprocesses. That is, this database system receives a data schema from a remoteuser, and then creates and maintains databases which use this schema. Adatabase system which is based on the client-server model should support thedefinition and updating of such databases on a server, so that the clientsimply needs a fairly small network computer to access these resourcesthrough the browser. Creating the above-mentioned database system with object-orientedconcepts has some issues needing verification. Firstly, the client-servermodel has been adopted for this application on the WWW. On the client side, the user will use a language similar to the ODMG-93 standard. Because of theobject-oriented nature of the database system, the database system on theserver side has to do some additional work. This thesis focuses on the objectcreation, update, and maintenance processes on the server-side of thedatabase management system.
