Abstract:
This study researches whether potential indicators of auditor dependence will affect the negative relationship between audit office size and audit quality in growing audit offices. I consider high market concentration and the low average number of public clients available to auditors in a city as indicators of dependency, and an auditor being a market specialist as an indicator of independency. Although the majority of my tests proved inconclusive, I do find some evidence indicating that there may be more to the growth effect than workload balancing. I provide some evidence supporting the hypothesis that the growth effect would be weaker (stronger) when there are more (fewer) potential clients in a local audit market.

History
Ph.D.
The legacy of the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS) as the forerunner of the post-war Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is well chronicled. However, the professional path of those involved in covert American Intelligence special operations has been almost completely neglected. Popular writers have focused on OSS heroics while CIA-insiders have meticulously detailed the bureaucratic struggles fought by the OSS in Washington, D.C. The special skills and organization developed by the OSS were unlike any ever before utilized by an American institution. The OSS built an organizational and operational capability that sought to take advantage of resistance in German-occupied territory through the collection of secret intelligence and special operations supporting resistance groups. To accomplish this, the OSS established and utilized inventive new methods of recruitment, training, and operations to lay the groundwork for the new professional path of the American Intelligence officer. An analysis of OSS field operations in the Mediterranean Theater during the Second World War yields the best insight into this nascent professionalism as it grew from ideas into reality. The OSS developed its own definition of intelligence while grappling with incorporating old and new standards of professional behavior into the organization and among its members. Covert training and recruitment materials generously provided by British agents such as William Stephenson gave the OSS the jump start it needed to begin to forge a new path in subversive operations. British covert intelligence embodied traditional field craft, but OSS members would be the missionaries of a new uniquely American specialized covert operations working for American interests in conjunction with partisans in enemy-controlled territory. OSS members hailed from a wide-variety of American business, military, academic, and civilian backgrounds, bringing with them new ideas and old conceptions of what it meant to be a professional. While ultimately unsuccessful in maintaining its existence after the war, the OSS established a new path forward for American Intelligence which recognized the groundbreaking work done by the OSS and incorporated many facets of that into the new CIA.

Thesis (MPhil (Information Science))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The intelligence community throughout the world is still reeling after several intelligence failures. Proposals to improve Intelligence Analysis have had little impact as analysts, their managers and their organisations continue to cling to outdated threat perceptions, methodologies and organisational structures and cultures. This thesis looks through the lens of Knowledge Management at the various challenges that the Intelligence Analysis practice is faced with in the Knowledge Age. Firstly, theories and concepts from Intelligence Analysis are challenged when compared with those in Knowledge Management and the possibility of applying new vocabularies in intelligence is discussed. The second challenge intelligence analysts face is to understand and adapt to the changed world with its connected, non-linear and rapidly enfolding events and patterns which broadens their scope to a multi-faceted, complex and multi-disciplinary threat picture. The third challenge is to re-look the existing analytical methodologies, tools and techniques, realising that these are most probably inadequate in a complex environment. The fourth challenge Intelligence Analysis faces is to reach out to other disciplines and assess how new analytical techniques, both intuitive and structured, as well as cognitive models, collaborative and organisational structure concepts from within the Knowledge Management discipline can improve Intelligence Analysis’ grasp of the Knowledge Age. In conclusion, it is argued that intelligence analysts might be ready to reinvent themselves to address Knowledge Age issues, but that intelligence organisations are not able to support a new intelligence paradigm while still clinging to threat perceptions and structures befitting the Cold War.

Ustaoslu, Eda. "Hedonic Price Analysis Of Office Rents: A Case Study Of The Office Market In Ankara." Master's thesis, METU, 2003. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/1079342/index.pdf.

Abstract:
This thesis analyzes variations in office rents in Ankara. The theoretical background of this study is related to the hedonic methodology, which is extensively applied for explaining price or rental price variations of the real property. Given this theoretical framework, hedonic regression model is utilized for the estimation of hedonic price indices by using the cross sectional data of the office market in Ankara for the year 2002. Hedonic price function is specified in the log linear functional form and is estimated with the Ordinary Least Squares technique for two models. The models include the same variables
however, Model 1 differs from Model 2 in including the location variables. The estimation results obtained from the models suggest that height and construction quality of the building act as proxies for the locational characteristics. Also, it is found from Model 1 that locational characteristics have the greatest effect on the rental prices of the office units. In order to verify this fact, Model 1 is tested against Model 2 and vice versa based on alternative tests for non-nested models. The results of non-nested tests indicate that Model 1 is preferred to Model 2. This result is important in the sense that locational characteristics are found to be significant in explaining the rental price variations. Besides location variables, the other variables related to physical attributes and lease characteristics of the office property are also evaluated from the estimation results of Model 1. From the empirical results, it is finally concluded that locational characteristics explain the spatial rent variations of the office property in Ankara to a large extent.

Abstract:
Intelligence is vital for the outcome of battles. As long as humans wage war, there will be a need for decision support to military and civilian leaders regarding adversaries or potential adversaries. However, the production of intelligence is neither easy nor without pitfalls. There is a need to better understand the predicaments of intelligence analysis. Intelligence is bureaucratically produced as well as socially constructed and created in a distinct cultural context. The ‘institution’ captures these three aspects of influence. Therefore, with a particular focus on military intelligence, this thesis aims to deepen the understanding regarding institutional influence on intelligence assessments. The literature regarding intelligence has grown steadily over the last three decades. However, theories and frameworks aimed to understand the phenomenon are still sparse. This is even more true for literature regarding contemporary military intelligence. This thesis intends to contribute to bridging these research gaps. This is done by studying the Swedish military intelligence institution from several different perspectives: its rules-in-use, shared beliefs, and the incoming stimuli primarily related to conducting threat assessments. More precisely the thesis investigates the use of quantitative methods, doctrines (i.e. the formal rules), and shared beliefs connected to epistemological assumptions and threat assessments. The main contribution of this thesis is that it establishes and describes a casual link between a military intelligence institution and an assessment, by drawing upon rulesin-use and belief systems and their effect on the mental model and consequently the perception of the situation connected to a cognitive bias, and thereby its effect on a given assessment. The thesis makes an effort to render intelligence studies more generalizable, by way of adopting the Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) framework. The metatheoretical language of the IAD is a promising avenue for explaining and describing the institutional influence on intelligence assessments.

Abstract:
Intelligence analysts today are faced with many challenges, chief among them being the need to fuse disparate streams of data, as well as rapidly arrive at analytical decisions and quantitative predictions for use by policy makers. These problems are further exacerbated by the sheer volume of data that is available to intelligence analysts. Machine learning methods enable the automated transduction of such large datasets from raw feeds to actionable knowledge but successful use of such methods require integrated frameworks for contextualizing them within the work processes of the analyst. Intelligence analysts typically distinguish between three classes of problems: collections, analysis, and operations. This dissertation specifically focuses on two problems in analysis: i) the reconstruction of shredded documents using a visual analytic framework combining computer vision techniques and user input, and ii) the design and implementation of a system for event forecasting which allows an analyst to not just consume forecasts of significant societal events but also understand the rationale behind these alerts and the use of data ablation techniques to determine the strength of conclusions. This work does not attempt to replace the role of the analyst with machine learning but instead outlines several methods to augment the analyst with machine learning. In doing so this dissertation also explores the responsibilities of an analyst in evaluating complex models and decisions made by these models. Finally, this dissertation defines a list of responsibilities for models designed to aid the analyst's work in evaluating and verifying the models.

Abstract:
The relational database model is probably the most frequently used database model today. It has its strengths, but it doesn’t perform very well with complex queries and analysis of very large sets of data. As computers have grown more potent, resulting in the possibility to store very large data volumes, the need for efficient analysis and processing of such data sets has emerged. The concept of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) was developed to meet this need. The main OLAP component is the data cube, which is a multidimensional database model that with various techniques has accomplished an incredible speed-up of analysing and processing large data sets. A concept that is advancing in modern computing industry is Business Intelligence (BI), which is fully dependent upon OLAP cubes. The term refers to a set of tools used for multidimensional data analysis, with the main purpose to facilitate decision making. This thesis looks into the concept of BI, focusing on the OLAP technology and date cubes. Two different approaches to cubes are examined and compared; Multidimensiona lOnline Analytical Processing (MOLAP) and Relational Online Analytical Processing (ROLAP). As a practical part of the thesis, a BI project was implemented for the consulting company Sogeti Sverige AB. The aim of the project was to implement a prototype for easy access to, and visualisation of their internal economical data. There was no easy way for the consultants to view their reported data, such as how many hours they have been working every week, so the prototype was intended to propose a possible method. Finally, a performance study was conducted, including a small scale experiment comparing the performance of ROLAP, MOLAP and querying against the data warehouse. The results of the experiment indicates that ROLAP is generally the better choice for data cubing.

Abstract:
Buildings have a significant impact on the environment due to the energy required for the manufacture of construction materials. The method of assessing the energy embodied in a product is known as energy analysis. Detailed office building embodied energy case studies are very rare. However, there is evidence to suggest that the energy requirements for the construction phase of commercial buildings, including the energy embodied in materials, is a significant component of the life cycle energy requirements. This thesis sets out to examine the current state of energy analysis, determine the national average energy intensities < i.e. embodied energy rates < for building materials and assess the significance of using national average energy intensities for the energy analysis of a case study office building. Likely ranges of variation in the building material embodied energy rates from the national averages are estimated and the resulting distribution for total embodied energy in the case study building simulated. Strategies for improving the energy analysis methods and data are suggested. Detailed energy analysis is shown to be a useful indicative method of quantifying the energy required for the construction of buildings.

The work environment has experienced tremendous change in the past few decades. Technology has been the prime catalyst to transform the demand for office space into a search for more flexible solutions in a historically inflexible asset. Serviced offices combine office space, technology and support into a global network of fully furnished, staffed and equipped offices and meeting rooms, available to occupy or vacate on flexible terms, and tailored to the specific business needs of the users. This thesis explores the objectives of these users, product and service characteristics of the serviced office space delivered to them, and the relationship between the users and the providers of serviced office space. Further, it explores the similarities and differences of big and small providers emerging as the market of serviced office space matures. The methodologies of the service profit chain are used to compare the relevant service delivery methods used by big and small serviced office providers.

Abstract:
Analysts must filter through an ever-growing amount of data to obtain information relevant to their investigations. Looking at every piece of information individually is in many cases not feasible; there is hence a growing need for new filtering tools and techniques to improve the analyst process with large datasets. We present MineVis â an analytics system that integrates biclustering algorithms and visual analytics tools in one seamless environment. The combination of biclusters and visual data glyphs in a visual analytics spatial environment enables a novel type of filtering. This design allows for rapid exploration and navigation across connected documents. Through a user study we conclude that our system has the potential to help analysts filter data by allowing them to i) form hypotheses before reading documents and subsequently ii) validating them by reading a reduced and focused set of documents.

This thesis takes as its premise the proposition that the pattern of street rights-of-way (and, by implication, utility alignments), blocks and parcelization are together the strongest and most persistent determinants of urban form. Certain design objectives are postulated--among them, clearly defined street space--and three street patterns are tested with a program combining two building types (office and parking structure). One alternative is elaborated with illustrative diagrams. The hypothesis is that the street pattern will be sufficient to achieve the postulated design objectives. The thesis concludes that additional controls are required.

This study examines and forecasts the Seoul office market, which is going to face a big supply in the next few years. After reviewing several previous studies on the Dynamic model and the Seoul Office market, this thesis applies two structural econometric models to forecast trends of rent, vacancy, and new supply of office space of Seoul Office Market, which is going to face a big supply in the next a few years. The first model has rent and supply equations. The second model is a full model that consists of three simultaneous equations; rent, supply, and absorption equations Empirically, the simple model was tested against time-series data of the Seoul office market since 1975. Rent equation is explained by current office stock, current GDP and past rent and past GDP, both lagging one year. The supply equation explains new office supply by one year lagging completion, five and six years lagging rent and growth of GDP in two previous years. The second model is a full model that consists of three simultaneous equations: rent, supply, and absorption equations based on time-series data since 1991. In this model, rent is impacted by current vacancy rate, past rent and vacancy rate both lagging one year. The supply equation is explained by completion one year ago, five years lagging rent, and past vacancy rate lagging four years, and the absorption equation is expressed by GDP per employment, current GDP, one year ago rent, and occupied stocks. Using estimated models with exogenous supplies for the next six years, ten-year contingent forecasts are made based on three scenarios having different estimated GDP growths. The forecasts for both models demonstrate that untypical supply for next six years will impact office rent negatively in all of the scenarios. In short, the Seoul office market, strongly affected by big supply over demand until 2016, will tend to be become soft or tight during same period before supply goes down and rent reacts. Since late 2010s, however, the market will fully recover from oversupply.

This thesis applies a structural econometric model to the Seoul Office Market to forecast cyclic trends of rent and office space supply. The model consists of two simultaneous equations. The first equation explains office rent by past rent, office employment, and the stock of office space. The second equation explains new office supply by rent and office employment growth. Empirically, the model was tested against the data of the Seoul office market since 1974. The estimated rent equation suggests that rent seems to be fully explained by the immediate past rent, current office employment, and current office stock in the Seoul economy - but only when the previous rental boom in the late 1970s is accounted for with the effect of governmental land use policy. On the other hand, the estimated construction equation suggests that new office supply can be well explained by rent and office employment growth, both lagging long six years. The long lag implies that investors have expected current conditions to prevail in the future, a myopic expectation. This myopic expectation can generate market volatility because by the time a space enters the stock, market conditions have changed. Using the estimated model, ten-year contingent forecasts are made based on three scenarios having different estimated office employment growths. The forecasts for both rent and new supply demonstrate similar cyclic movements in all of the scenarios. In short, the Seoul office market, strongly impacted by the negative economic shock started in late 1997 and the large supply of office space in the 1990s, seems to remain soft or tight for two to three years before rent moves upward and supply reacts. By the middle of the 2000s, however, the market will be fully recovered from the economic shock and it will move toward a strong market.

With this amount of data, along with technical benefits such as computing power and exceeding algorithms, the companies can train their ma- chine learning models to levels which is hard for a local computing landscape to reach up to.Nowadays, the companies allow developers to use their services and this paper proclaims the benefits of using these. The aim for this thesis is to show how cloud based face recognition and speech recognition can be utilized to create a virtual assistant in Magic Mirror. This new concept opens new possibilities for human-computer interaction. The use case for the assistant was to aid visitors who comes into an office for an appointment with an employee. The prototype of the assistant showed 94% accuracy when identifying faces and fulfilled the task well when the employee name was internationally known, while having difficulties with others, e.g. Swedish names.

This project focuses on the complexity of stakeholder collaboration within the defense acquisition environment. An Army program office was identified as a case study because of a recently approved acquisition strategy by the Army Acquisition Executive. In coordination with this program office, eight key stakeholders were identified as being closely involved with the successful strategy decision. These individuals were given a survey to measure their collaborative capacity. Then, the participants were interviewed and asked to explain the impact and role that collaboration played in successfully constructing and staffing the acquisition strategy. Analyses revealed how effective collaboration was critical to achieving the successful high-level acquisition decision and revealed how the collaborative relationships changed over the events leading to the decision. The research concluded that developing and fostering effective collaboration with the stakeholder community contributes immensely to the success of the acquisition strategy and that the changing collaborative relationships can and should be supported with different levels of information.

Serguieva, Antoaneta. "Computational intelligence techniques in asset risk analysis." Thesis, Brunel University, 2004. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/5424.

Full text
Abstract:
The problem of asset risk analysis is positioned within the computational intelligence paradigm. We suggest an algorithm for reformulating asset pricing, which involves incorporating imprecise information into the pricing factors through fuzzy variables as well as a calibration procedure for their possibility distributions. Then fuzzy mathematics is used to process the imprecise factors and obtain an asset evaluation. This evaluation is further automated using neural networks with sign restrictions on their weights. While such type of networks has been only used for up to two network inputs and hypothetical data, here we apply thirty-six inputs and empirical data. To achieve successful training, we modify the Levenberg-Marquart backpropagation algorithm. The intermediate result achieved is that the fuzzy asset evaluation inherits features of the factor imprecision and provides the basis for risk analysis. Next, we formulate a risk measure and a risk robustness measure based on the fuzzy asset evaluation under different characteristics of the pricing factors as well as different calibrations. Our database, extracted from DataStream, includes thirty-five companies traded on the London Stock Exchange. For each company, the risk and robustness measures are evaluated and an asset risk analysis is carried out through these values, indicating the implications they have on company performance. A comparative company risk analysis is also provided. Then, we employ both risk measures to formulate a two-step asset ranking method. The assets are initially rated according to the investors' risk preference. In addition, an algorithm is suggested to incorporate the asset robustness information and refine further the ranking benefiting market analysts. The rationale provided by the ranking technique serves as a point of departure in designing an asset risk classifier. We identify the fuzzy neural network structure of the classifier and develop an evolutionary training algorithm. The algorithm starts with suggesting preliminary heuristics in constructing a sufficient training set of assets with various characteristics revealed by the values of the pricing factors and the asset risk values. Then, the training algorithm works at two levels, the inner level targets weight optimization, while the outer level efficiently guides the exploration of the search space. The latter is achieved by automatically decomposing the training set into subsets of decreasing complexity and then incrementing backward the corresponding subpopulations of partially trained networks. The empirical results prove that the developed algorithm is capable of training the identified fuzzy network structure. This is a problem of such complexity that prevents single-level evolution from attaining meaningful results. The final outcome is an automatic asset classifier, based on the investors’ perceptions of acceptable risk. All the steps described above constitute our approach to reformulating asset risk analysis within the approximate reasoning framework through the fusion of various computational intelligence techniques.

When applying machine learning and statistics techniques to real-world datasets, problems often arise due to missing data or errors from black-box predictive models that are difficult to understand or explain in terms of the model's inputs. This thesis explores the applicability of BayesDB, a probabilistic programming platform for data analysis, to three common problems in data analysis: (i) modeling patterns of missing data, (ii) imputing missing values in datasets, and (iii) characterizing the error behavior of predictive models. Experiments show that CrossCat, the default model discovery mechanism used by BayesDB, can address all three problems effectively. Examples are drawn from the American National Election Studies and the Gapminder database of global macroeconomic and public health indicators.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite the rather large literature concerning emotional intelligence, the vast majority of studies concerning development and validation of emotional intelligence scales have been done in the Western countries. Hence, a major limitation in this literature is its decidedly Western focus. The aim of this research was to assess the psychometric properties of the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT), the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue), and the Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SREIT) in a cross-cultural comparative context involving the collectivist Pakistani (Eastern culture) and the individualist French (Western culture) students. Results of this study showed that participants from the French culture scored higher than participants from the Pakistani sample on the MSCEIT but not on the TEIQue and the SREIT. Multi-sample analyses revealed that the MSCEIT, the TEIQue, and the SREIT factor structures remained invariant across both cultures. Regarding discriminant validity, in both cultures, self-ratings of emotional intelligence, as assessed by the SREIT and the TEIQue, and performance measure of emotional intelligence, as assessed by the MSCEIT, were not strongly correlated. Furthermore, in both cultures, scores on the MSCEIT, the TEIQue, and the SREIT revealed to be unrelated to cognitive intelligence and communication styles. Finally, low to moderate correlations were observed between the EI measures and the Big Five personality dimensions. Regarding convergent validity of the self-report EI measures, in both cultures the scores on the TEIQue strongly correlated with the scores on the SREIT. With regard to incremental validity, in both cultures, after statistically controlling for the Big Five personality dimensions and cognitive ability, the MSCEIT and the SREIT revealed to be unrelated to satisfaction with life, positive affect, negative affect, and psychological distress. In contrast, the TEIQue factors accounted for a significant amount of variance in outcome variables after controlling for the Big Five personality dimensions and the cognitive intelligence. However, further analyses revealed that the associations were mainly because of the TEIQue’s well-being factor. Finally, in both cultures, females scored higher than males on the MSCEIT but not on the TEIQue and the SREIT. In sum, the results of this study provide evidence for the factorial, discriminant, and convergent validity of these emotional intelligence measures in both cultures. However, results regarding incremental validity of these measures are less promising than anticipated

Abstract:
Conformational analysis provides a means of understanding a wide variety of chemical interactions. However, the complexity of the potential energy hypersurface for large molecules has restricted the use of conformational search in molecular modeling. The model building, or template joining, method employed by the WIZARD program is capable of overcoming many of the shortcomings of commonly used conformational search programs. While WIZARD has been shown to be widely applicable, the program still possesses a few limitations. This dissertation describes work done to overcome these limitations. When WIZARD is used to perform a conformational search on large, flexible molecules, the number of fragment combinations becomes very large and the conformational search can be extremely time consuming. Section I of this dissertation presents WIZARD III, a new version of the WIZARD program which is capable of applying a number of different search strategies to the conformational analysis problem. By employing search techniques such as genetic algorithms and simulated annealing, WIZARD III is capable of performing extremely rapid conformational analysis on large systems. Any program which performs molecular modeling based on an internal knowledge base will be only as good as the axioms it possesses. It would be desirable to create a program which is capable of integrating new knowledge with minimal interaction from the user. Section II of this thesis presents the MOUSE program, which utilizes inductive machine learning to derive new rules of conformational analysis. These new rules can be used to augment WIZARD's knowledge base and improve its ability to predict conformations.

Although monitoring financial health of small firms is decisive to their success, these firms commonly present difficulty when analysing their operational financial condition. In order to overcome this fact, the present thesis proposes a financial knowledge representation that is capable of proposing alternative actions whenever a deviation is detected. The knowledge representation developed recognizes the existence of different phases of analysis: one that looks for some clues about possible financial problems and another one that focuses on with more detail the potential problems detected by the prior phase. The vagueness present in many semantic rules was implemented by using the Theory of Fuzzy Sets. The uncertainty about the future behavior of some key financial variables is incorporated by means of managers perceptions about trends and events. A practical formulation of this proposal is done considering the retail bus sector.

The use of social media within the workplace as a tool for communication among employees is increasing at an astounding rate. The implications for such use, however, are widely unknown. This case study aims to increase the understanding of enterprise social media (ESM) and computer-mediated social support (CMSS) use within the Department of Defense (DOD) by examining three Facebook (FB) groups developed by the Navy’s Office of Women’s Policy (OWP). The research utilizes interviews and data collected from the FB groups to identify the purpose, content trends, and availability of social support. The analyses of the interviews and FB data are subsequently used to assess the groups’ effectiveness as platforms for ESM and CMSS. Results show that the FB groups are an effective resource for CMSS with complementary managerial benefits. The study implies that FB groups could be used to provide social support for other military members, especially those who are considered minority groups. Additionally, a richer understanding of the groups’ strengths and weaknesses will allow the OWP to develop a more succinct purpose and strategy for administering these FB groups.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work contains the efforts I have made in the last years in the field of Electrophysiological data analysis. Most of the work has been done at Starlab Barcelona S.L. and part of it at the Neurodynamics Laboratory of the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology of the University of Barcelona. The main work deals with the analysis of electroencephalography (EEG) signals, although other signals, such as electrocardiography (ECG), electroculography (EOG) and electromiography (EMG) have also been used. Several data sets have been collected and analysed applying advanced Signal Processing techniques. On a later stage Computational Intelligence techniques, such as Machine Learning and Genetic Algorithms, have been applied, mainly to classify the different conditions from the EEG data sets. 3 applications involving EEG and classification are proposed corresponding to each one of the 3 case studies presented in this thesis. Analysis of Electrophysiological signals for biometric purposes: We demonstrate the potential of using EEG signals for biometric purposes. Using the ENOBIO EEG amplifier, and using only two frontal EEG channels, we are able to authenticate subjects with a performance up to 96.6%. We also looked for features extracted from the ECG signals and in that case the performance was equal to 97.9%. We also fused the results of both modalities achieving a perfect performance. Our system is ready to use and since it only uses 4 channels (2 for EEG, 1 for ECG in the left wrist and 1 as active reference in the right ear lobe), the wireless ENOBIO sensor is perfectly suited for our application. EEG differences in First Psychotic Episode (FPE) Patients: From an EEG data set of 15 FPE patients and the same number of controls, we studied the differences in their EEG signals in order to train a classifier able to recognise to which group an EEG sample comes from. The feature we use are extracted from the EEG by computing the Synchronization Likelihood feature between all possible pairs of channels. The next step is to build a graph and from that graph we extracted the Mean Path Length and the Clustering Coefficient. Those features as a function of the connectivity threshold are then used in our classifiers. We then create several classification problems and we reach up to 100% of classification in some cases. Markers of stress in the EEG signal: In this research, we designed a protocol in which the participants where asked to perform different tasks, each one with a different stress level. Among these tasks we can find the Stroop Test, Mathematical arithmetics and also a fake blood sample test. By extracting the alpha asymmetry and the beta/alpha ration, we where able to discriminate between the different tasks with performances up to 88%. This application can be used with only 3 EEG electrodes, and it can also work in real time. Finally this application can also be used as a neurofeedback training to learn how to cope with stress.
