Smith, Paul Philip. "The practice of office hysteroscopy." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2015. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/6061/.

Full text
Abstract:
Advances in technology have led to the miniaturisation of hysteroscopes without compromising optical performance. This development has facilitated the routine use of diagnostic hysteroscopy in an outpatient setting without the need for general anaesthesia. Further developments have expanded hysteroscopy from a simply diagnostic intervention to an operative one with a plethora of hysteroscopic surgical procedures. The work in this thesis has adopted a mixed methodological approach to rigorously evaluate patient selection, feasibility and efficacy of office hysteroscopy. Based on the results of this thesis we recommend: 1) Women with recurrent PMB should be investigated with either hysteroscopy or saline infusion sonography. 2) Vaginoscopy should probably be used in preference to other techniques to introduce the hysteroscope into the uterine cavity. 3) Women who have a uterine cavity >9cm or dysmenorrhoea should be warned they are more likely to require further intervention after endometrial ablation. 4) There appears to be no difference between the effectiveness of bipolar radiofrequency ablation and thermal balloon ablation at five years of follow up. 5) Women who present with abnormal uterine bleeding and an endometrial polyp should have it removed. 6) The hysteroscopic morcellator should be used in preference to bipolar resection for endometrial polyp removal.

Stutz, Peter. "Office automation." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/17222.

Full text
Abstract:
Bibliography: p. 100-104.
Office automation systems have become an essential tool for the operation of the modern office. With the emphasis of a modern office being placed on efficiency and ease of communication, office automation systems have become the backbone of successful businesses. COSNET is a prototype office automation system designed and implemented at the Department of the University of Cape Town and runs on Personal Computers that are linked to a NCR UNIX TOWER, which acts as the host. This dissertation investigates the different facilities supported by some of the office automation systems compared in this thesis, and describes the COSNET features. This prototype office automation system supports many of the facilities that are supported by large office automation systems. COSNET allows the user to define any MS-DOS based editor or word processor, and uses a simple editor for the creation of mail. The electronic filing facility allows documents to be created, filed, retrieved and deleted, and thus provides the users with the necessary features for document exchange. A user may set access permissions to each of his documents and may grant other users either read or write access to a specific document. The mail facility lets the user read, file, forward, delete and print a message, and supports classification of mail. A calendar facility is used as an electronic diary and stores all the user's schedules. These schedules may be viewed in either daily, weekly and monthly display modes. Read and write access to the calendar can be set by the user, in order to allow other users to manipulate his schedules. Any MS-DOS based application software can be added to COSNET. This facility allows the COSNET user to configure the office automation system to simulate the office environment. COSNET thus supports most of the necessary features required by an office automation system.

Amaravadi, Chandra Sekhar. "Towards a conceptual model for the office: An integrating approach." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/184813.

Full text
Abstract:
A persistent problem among researchers in office automation has been the absence of a comprehensive theory of office information systems. Commercial software such as spreadsheet and financial packages provide only limited support for tasks such as developing balance sheets and income statements. It also supports only limited software integration, usually at the interface and data levels. A model of an office is proposed as a basis for developing integrated office systems. Prior approaches to this problem have been mostly limited to only one or two aspects of the office with the exclusion of others. These approaches have been characterized as forms, data, information, procedural, functional, communication, and decision oriented. The integrated model synthesizes these different views of the office. The proposed model consists of macroscopic and microscopic components. The macroscopic structure is modelled with a semantic network which describes how "functions" of the office are related to one another. The lower level component of the model consists of "procedures" which support the functions described by the functional structure. These procedures use utilities and tools at a lower level of accomplishing standard operations. Thus support for functions is provided through procedures which rely on utilities at a lower level. The model is operationalized with a knowledge base/database containing the necessary knowledge/data for accomplishing the functions and procedures. Detailed designs of the components of the architecture are presented. A prototype based on the design has been implemented in Prolog. The contribution of the dissertation has five dimensions: these are the literature review, the office study, the conceptual model, and a prototype office system. The literature review provides a clarification of concepts and identification of research problems. The office study contributes to a better understanding of analyzing offices from the point of view of modelling. The conceptual model is a good starting point for designing and developing integrated office systems. The prototype system demonstrates the feasibility of the model for developing an integrated office system.

Abstract:
Professional Development to Enhance Instructional Leadership and Practice of Central Office Administrators by Cheryl A. R. McCue M. Ed., Lehigh University, 1990 BS, Kutztown University, 1987 Doctoral Study Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Education Walden University June 2016 Decades of research and practice suggest that educational administrators need to experience opportunities for professional development and continuous learning. This project study addressed the problem regarding the lack of a formal or systemic plan for professional development of central office administrators in a large suburban school district in northeastern United States. Supported by Lave and Wenger's communities of practice model and the work of Bandura in social learning theory, the research question investigated the ways in which central office administrators experienced continuous learning and professional development opportunities and the perceptions regarding the effectiveness of those practices as a vehicle for enhancing their knowledge of instructional leadership and practice. A descriptive qualitative case study design using the purposeful sampling of 18 central office administrators was used to collect data via an open-ended survey, plan analysis, and document reviews that were coded and analyzed for common themes. Themes that emerged revealed participants thought that collaborative and reflective practices were important to continuous learning and professional development and necessary to enhance knowledge of instructional leadership and practice. Study findings supported the need for increased time and an identified structure for professional development opportunities as well as an improved culture of learning for the district's central office administrative team. Providing a structure for more systemic professional development for central office administrators may lead to more quality instruction and leadership practice, thus influencing student learning in this district as an aspect of positive social change.

Tellier, Sonia L. "Tracking Turnaround: Understanding Data Use as a Shared Leadership Practice." Thesis, Boston College, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2345/bc-ir:107991.

Abstract:
Thesis advisor: Martin Scanlan
This qualitative case study examined leaders’ shared data use, a process of translating data into action (Bernhardt, 2013). Understanding data use is considered conceptually by attending to the assistance relationships shared between central office leaders and principals in the context of turnaround. Such relationships are marked by occasions during which members share expertise by modeling practices; the modeling informs how systems, structures and subsequent practices are introduced and even reinforced for newer members. I focused my analysis on four manifestations of data use: data’s influence on adjusting leadership practice, data’s ability to inform instruction, data use’s benefits from technological advancement, and the intentional promotion of resilience. Data collection included document review as well as interviews with central office leaders and principals. Findings evidenced the nature of both central office leaders’ and principals’ data use as well as revealed a remarkable degree of commonality in the language and practices these leaders shared. The results of this study indicated that assistance relationships are a functioning element of leadership in the turnaround context. This study supported the research that leaders’ shared practice of data use benefits student growth and achievement in line with state-determined assessment and accountability targets. Recommendations include additional research into Lawrence Public Schools’ data use to further inform a blueprint for comprehensive district-wide reform as well as the development of exit criteria from receivership

Kyprianou, Despina. "The role of the Cyprus Attorney General's Office in prosecutions : rhetoric, ideology and practice." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2006. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/2402/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is an exploratory study which attempts to shed light on the rhetoric, ideology and practice concerning the role of the Cyprus Attorney General's Office in prosecutions, and aims to enhance understanding of its functions. It is mainly based on empirical data gathered during a five-month period in the Office, involving observation, semi-structured interviews with Law Officers and examination of criminal files. The findings are supplemented by an examination of the internal circulars, press releases and documents of the four Attorney Generals who have served since the establishment of the Cyprus Republic; and by interviews carried out with three of those four office-holders. The Constitution, while recognising the right to private prosecutions, entrusts the Attorney General with the overall responsibility for all prosecutions and with broad powers in the execution of his functions. However, the statutory legislation has not determined the exact parameters of his broad role and has afforded great latitude to the post-holder in the specification and use of his powers. The findings of this research indicate that the Attorney General serves as the head of the prosecution system and exercises control over all prosecutions in the jurisdiction, although he is closely dealing with only the most serious cases, and those regarded as exceptional, complex, or in need of particular attention. Although his Office does not have an immediate investigatory role, its broad powers regarding investigations provide an obstacle to the absolute control of the investigative stage by the police. The Attorney General determines and formulates the prosecution policy of his Office, and also the overall prosecution policy in the jurisdiction. Furthermore, he provides a central and relatively tight control of all diversionary decisions. One of the most crucial functions that the Law Office appears to perform is that it serves as forum of appeal where all prosecutorial actions (or inaction) by other prosecuting agencies can be reviewed: the public require the Law Office's intervention in cases that do not usually belong to its workload, when they judge that they are not being handled properly by the police; they ask for its intervention when investigations are not carried out properly; and they apply for a review or overturn of police prosecutorial decisions.

Griggs, Kenneth Andrew. "GDI: (Goal Directed Interface): An intelligent, iconic, object-oriented interface for office systems." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/184751.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation presents the GDI (Goal Directed Interface) approach to the user interface for office systems. The primary objectives of the approach are to create an interface that (1) requires little user training and (2) tries to perform higher level task activities (ex. 'schedule a meeting') that have been excluded from computerization in the past. The GDI technique (1) postulates a simple model of the office environment consisting of persons, things, and processes, and a decomposable goal set, (2) represents knowledge in the office environment through rules, frames, and scripts, and object-oriented programming techniques, (3) creates an iconic visual representation consisting of persons, things, and processes that closely mimics the user's 'mental model' of the office world, (4) requires that the user's own 'person icon' be present for all interactions so that actions appear to take place in a user controllable context (the user's icon is, literally, in the interface), (5) provides a 'selection window' through which the user communicates his/her goal by grouping relevant icons, (6) uses a rule-based expert system to examine an icon configuration and, through its expertise, derives a user goal (despite ambiguous or faulty icon placements), (7) attempts to complete the user goal through the use of scripts and multiple expert systems.

Abstract:
Business practices have and will continue to greatly influence and determine the shape and viability of the built environment. Traditional practices have continued to use non renewable and polluting resources such as fossil fuels, and these are rapidly becoming unviable and unacceptable within the built environment. As an alternative to these traditional practices, concerned building practitioners are applying best practice initiatives in the-belief that these produce sustainable outcomes. The research titled 'A study of the Lithgow New Government Office Development; Using Best Practice to Deliver Sustainable Developments' is based on the hypothesis that applying building industry's best practice initiatives can deliver sustainability within the built environment. This hypothesis assumes links between the applied practices, the outcome achieved and sustainability. This research tests this hypothesis with a single 'critical' case project; the recently constructed Lithgow Government Office Building (GOB) Development, and against a theoretical framework that defines sustainability. The GOB Development is a best practice example procured by a long lived and socially responsible organisation, government organisation - the Department of Commerce. This organisation adopted and applied new government policies along with best practice initiatives to produce a new benchmark - an award wining, trend-setting, seemingly sustainable development. The industry successes of the GOB Development made this a suitable single case study, one that was most likely to fare better than any other development procured at that time and by other means. The research conducted provides an insight and understanding into all the different factors during the procurement of the GOB project and highlights how these influenced the eventual built outcome and determined whether sustainability would be attained. This research assessment is seen as a crucial step in understanding the many limitations of best practice and thereby enabling the building industry's progression towards achieving sustainability within the built environment. The potential insight that can be gained from this research can enable the relationship between practice and theory to be better understood, and thereby provide the means to influence all future built outcomes. It is believed that such insight can encourage building practitioners and organisations to adopt and apply best practice initiatives as a means to achieve sustainability within the built environment.

Abstract:

Culturally responsive practice (CRP) by educators is an essential tool to serve increasingly diverse public-school populations. This study examines the sensemaking and sensegiving that district central office administrators undertake regarding what it means for educators to be culturally responsive practitioners. This dissertation used a case study of a mid-sized urban district which has not yet undertaken systematic effort on CRP to explore three research questions: (1) How do district administrators understand what it means for educators to be culturally responsive practitioners? (2) How do district administrators seek to influence the cultural responsiveness of educators? (3) What does evidence suggest about the efficacy of these efforts to influence the cultural responsiveness of educators? Data included interviews with seven district administrators and nineteen teachers, a survey of 33 educators in the district, and a review of internal district documents. Findings included that administrators had limited understanding of CRP, though they believe it to be important. They connected CRP to methodologies and practices in which they were more fluent. Sensegiving by district administrators was more effective at conveying the importance of CRP than its meaning or how to implement it. Absent a shared definition of CRP, but with heavy signaling of its importance, educators developed varying conceptions through their sensemaking. This case study suggests several implications for research, policy, and practice, including for the study of sensemaking in multi-layered organizations grappling with multiple changes and for implementation by school districts of CRP, as well as barriers to such implementation

Abstract:
Architecture-Engineering-Construction industry has recently been altering the ways of managing its resources. Knowledge is considered to be among the most precious of these resources. Knowledge is a critical factor in choosing the right projects, preparing the winning bids and successfully realizing the projects. It is also a critical factor for organizations because of the fact that - due to its nature that it exists as tacit or explicit, or in between - it is hard to record and reuse. This study investigates the knowledge management issue in the practice of architecture. Face-to-face interviews have been carried out with 15 architectural offices in Ç
ankaya district of Ankara. The subject domain is assumed to be experiencing problems such as managing knowledge at a strategic level. This is due to the facts that the amount and importance of tacit knowledge is significant and communication of this knowledge to other parties is the responsibility of the architectural partners. The survey found out that management of architectural knowledge is considered to be beneficial for the overall productivity of architectural offices. However, challenges such as lack of standard procedures and low profit margins in the AEC industry render this activity to be less effective on profit and innovation in design.

Al-Ghailani, Rashid M. "Equal employment opportunity in public office in principle and practice : an empirical study of the Omani civil service." Thesis, University of Hull, 2005. http://hydra.hull.ac.uk/resources/hull:5650.

Full text
Abstract:
The conceptual focus of this thesis is equal employment opportunity (EEO) when applied to a public personnel management system. In particular it fills a void in evaluating the concepts of Representative Bureaucracy and Management Diversity in both principle and practice, and in comprehending the extent to which their objectives can be translated into practical recruitment procedures. Moreover, the importance of organisational context is crucial. The study investigates how the merit principle can be sustained in a work environment where culture adversely affects organisational efficiency and EEO issues. The Omani public bureaucracy was taken as a case study. The study evaluates whether merit recruitment is embedded into the HRM system as demanded by the country's 1996 Basic Law. Oman faces serious challenges that necessitate efficient recruitment policy that can lead to an effective workforce. On the economic front, while population is rising, oil reserves are decreasing. Thus, the hiring of qualified civil servants is now essential for the country's future development. Politically, the governing elite gather public institutions under their command and operate on informal, personalistic and tribally-oriented work values. The result is a personnel and administrative system where public posts are filled based on nepotism, favouritism and ascriptive criteria, rather than on the basis of achievement and merit. The study argues that the time for reform has arrived to deal with challenges efficiently. After building a generic model of merit-based HRM, analysing the context of the public bureaucracy in Oman, examining the functions of personnel laws and institutions, and evaluating current recruitment activity in both policy and practice, a field study was undertaken to answer the study's questions and to test its hypotheses. The findings suggest that a Weberian type of rational-legal bureaucracy needs to be established. Despite the argument of the collapse of this approach in some western liberal democracies public personnel systems, the research shows that the basic concept of merit still survives in professional practice in other parts of the world where cultural values and social norms are preserved in the work-place. It particularly 'fits' the Omani context and provides an efficient EEO approach. The study confirms that blind imitation of western approaches may not be applicable or useful in developing states. Finally, the theoretical implications of the research are highlighted, with specific recommendations to ensure responsiveness to the merit-based recruitment model adopted by the study. The thesis should be of interest to both students and practitioners of public administration in the Arab Gulf region in particular, and developing countries in general.

Abstract:
Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, is one of the United Nations (UN) core objectives. However, the UN has been struggling with achieving gender balance in its own organisation, despite numerous attempts. Men have been in numerical dominance at the UN since inception, especially on senior positions. This case study takes place just months after the System-wide strategy for gender parity was launched by Secretary-General Guterres. It captures the initial reactions through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with five women working in one UN body at the UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Through these stories and experiences, this thesis aims to analyse the UN as a gendered organisation, focusing on organisational structure and culture. I argue that gendered processes of the organisational structure and culture preserve the male-dominance by having including effects on men and excluding effects on women. In this thesis I use gendered processes (Acker 1992), combined with post-structural policy analysis (Bacchi 2009) and complex systems theory (Ramalingam 2013), as analytical tools to show how equality is constructed and understood as an idea and in practice.

Abstract:
This research is concerned with my personal leadership practice in the former Welsh Office and latterly the National Assembly for Wales. It has been a sociological study, critically exploring my leadership practice during a period of intense change. The study provides an auto-ethnographic account of my leadership practice through four discrete projects. My practice in relation to these projects was analysed through relevant action research methodologies, which involved reflection and reflexivity, together with a conceptual framework covering personal leadership and change, gender, identity and, power and psycho-dynamics. The analysis was informed by a comprehensive literature review of the key texts on leadership, gender, identity, power, and organisational psycho-dynamics. As the researcher and the researched, I attempted to understand how my personal characteristics and life experiences governed my actions and behaviours, the impact of my gender on my practice, the construction of personal and collective identities and the use of power and authority within the organisation. The overall aim was to contribute to leadership theories about the practice of women leaders and to improve my practice through this understanding. The theory that has emerged is that of accommodating leadership on the basis that to exercise effective leadership it is necessary to be accommodating of your personal, inherent traits, and learnt behaviours and those with whom you interact, whilst engendering a culture that encourages the practice of accommodation. The findings contribute to knowledge in the areas of leadership, change and learning, identity and power and psycho-dynamics in a public sector organisation from a feminist perspective on both personal and organisational levels.

Motiwalla, Luvai Fazlehusen. "A knowledge-based electronic messaging system: Framework, design, prototype development, and validation." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/184727.

Abstract:
Although electronic messaging systems (EMS) are an attractive business communication medium several studies on the usage and impact of EMS have shown that despite the benefits, they have been generally used for routine and informal communication activities. Theoretically, EMS have yet to find their niche in organizational communications. Technically, EMS designs are not flexible to support communication activities of managers, are not maintainable to permit easy integration with other office applications and access to information from data/knowledge bases, and are not easily extendible beyond the scope of their initial design. Behaviorally, end users are not directly involved in the development of EMS. This dissertation attempts to bridge the transition of EMS technology from message processing systems to communication support systems. First, the dissertation provides an analysis for a knowledge-based messaging system (KMS) through a framework. The framework provides a theoretical basis to link management theory to EMS technology. It suggests that the communication needs of the managers vary depending on the activity level, implying related variations in EMS functionality. Second, the dissertation provides a design for the KMS through an architecture which incorporates the design and implementation issues such as, flexibility, maintainability, and extendibility. The superimposition of the KMS on an existing EMS provides flexibility, the loose coupling between the KMS-interface components and the KMS-functions increases its maintainability, and the strong functional decomposition and cohesion enhances the extendibility of the system beyond the scope of its initial design. Finally, the dissertation provides a implementation through the development of a prototype KMS which involves users into the design process through a validation study conducted at University of Arizona. The prototype used GDSS tools in eliciting message attributes for the personal knowledge base. This method proved effective in reducing the bottleneck observed in the acquisition of knowledge from multiple experts, simultaneously. Similarly, the combination of observation with interviews proved effective in eliciting the organizational knowledge base. The validation method measured the system's accuracy (which was very accurate) in prioritizing messages for the users.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech(Human Resources Management))--Cape Technikon, Cape Town, 1996
Even though performance appraisal is used in most South African organisations, the information acquired is often not used for the purpose to which it pertains, i.e. improving work performance and identifying career, promotion and development opportunities. The former, together with the lack of formal post structures and goal orientated career plans when appointments are made, often results in secretarial personnel (especially executive secretaries and personal assistants) never receiving the necessary acknowledgement in spite of their training, competence and experience. This group of employees plays a very important support- , ing role at all levels of management; yet they are often overlooked for promotion to lower and middle management levels, despite the crucial shortage of people with high level skills. Since the largest percentage of these employees are women, they experience even more discrimination because of their gender. In the first place this investigation attempted to establish to what degree secretarial personnel's performance is appraised and to what end the results are employed. Secondly, an attempt was made to determine the degree to which the enterprises involved in the investigation have established career programmes and whether the results obtained from performance appraisals are used as criterion for promotion and career planning. Furthermore, the obstacles in the way of the development and promotion of secretarial personnel were investigated. At the same time the degree of discrimination against women in management positions was surveyed. As background to the investigation, a comprehensive literature review was conducted.

Abstract:
The compliance theory of Amitai Etizioni was employed as a base for the assessment of involvement and power to describe the role of the secretary in organizational administrative units. The majority of Certified Professional Secretaries reported their involvement as moral and the power exerted by their supervisors as normative. Moral involvement and normative power are congruent, and thus effectiveness is assumed. Most of the correlates of the compliance theory further supported the described congruency of moral involvement and normative power. Those organizational elites who serve in supervisory roles with the Certified Professional Secretaries supported the moral involvement and normative power descriptions reported by the CPSs. In a majority of cases, noncertified secretaries in the administrative units also supported the congruency reported by the Certified Professional Secretaries. The minority group of Certified Secretaries who reported moral involvement but remunerative power described incongruent situations. Much of the correlational data further described situations of disharmony in these incongruent units. However, the power and involvement reported by the supervisors and the noncertified secretaries in these units failed to support the incongruencies reported by the CPSs. The defined role of the secretary morally involved and normatively controlled is a description of an entrenchment in a traditional role for a large group of workers who are hindered in their attempts to reach goals which are more supportive of their societal role and recent status attainments. The congruency of moral involvement and normative power is a natural and historically reinforced · situation. Recent emphasis on professionalism for secretaries further reinforces the entrenchment. If a movement is to occur, it is most likely to be successful if initiated and powered from within with efforts which are directed against reinforcement of normative power and moral involvement and toward remunerative power and calculative involvement. Role and title changes for secretaries are suggested and educational training activities which give emphasis to calculative involvements and remunerative power control are recommended.

Integrating Project Management practices with other management practices and processes such as Knowledge Management, Total Quality Management, Concurrent Engineering, Risk Management and Change Management has become a coping mechanism for many organisations operating in volatile business environments (Kerzner 2000). Companies have come to realize that leveraging knowledge gained on projects is an important resource to improve performance and have started to look for strategies that help them to achieve 'excellence' and 'maturity' in PM and help formally "manage" this intellectual property gained on projects (Kerzner 2003). One of the strategies that many companies are adopting for the structured collection, distribution, and updating of the intellectual property gained on projects and to facilitate their maturity in PM practices is the 'project management office' (PMO) (Dai & Wells 2004; PMI 2004a; Santosus 2003; Rad & Levin 2002; Bates 1998). This is referred to by different writers alternatively as the project office (PO) (Englund et al. 2003; Kermer 2003; Turbit 2003; PM! 2000a), PM centre of excellence (COE) (Kermer 2001) or Project support office (PSO) (Marsh 2001; Marsh 2000).

Abstract:
Emerging from a joint AHRC/ESRC-funded project, The Experience of Worship in late medieval Cathedral and Parish Church (2009–13), this doctoral thesis offers a chronological trajectory of the liturgical development of the Mass and Office of the Holy Name of Jesus, and in so doing, seeks to provide fresh perspectives on the significance of the name ‘Jesus’. Jesus Mass was one of a number of liturgies chosen by the project research team to enact as worship, with the texts, chants, spaces, ritual artefacts, vestments and furniture appropriate for the 1530s. My brief was to collaborate with other members of the research team in preparing the Jesus Mass texts and other textual resources for enactments in two different spaces, to participate as a singer in the enactment itself, and to reflect upon the experience after its last iteration. As a result of this high degree of involvement, a possible direction for research presented itself, as summarised below. Section I addresses the wider contextual issues of the devotion to the Holy Name, beginning with a study of the origins and occurrences of the Holy Name in the New Testament. It then traces the later development of the Name as the object of devotion in the West and more specifically in England during the Middle Ages, until it attains an officially recognised liturgical expression in the late fifteenth century. Section II of the thesis then focuses on the emerging Sarum Feast of the Holy Name (7 August) more specifically, with reference to the associated Mass and Office. It offers a survey of the evolvement of the observance through manuscript and printed liturgical sources of Sarum and other Uses, and of the extent of guild activity and musical provision during the period 1480–1530, both indicative of the extent of its practice nationwide. Section III provides an analysis of the emerging themes in both Mass and Office Propers, drawn from a variety of associated sources – scriptural, devotional and theological, which help construct an understanding of the significance of the Name. This is further enriched in Section IV by an exploration of the Feast of the Transfiguration (6 August), celebrated the day before the Holy Name, according to the Sarum Kalendar. In the final section the focus returns to the enactment, and explains the process whereby the Mass texts were transformed into a working edition with text, notation and rubrics, ready to be animated into an act of worship taking place as if in the late Middle Ages, but in 2011.

Abstract:
The Communities of Practice (CP) are identified as conductive structures for learning and knowledge transfer between members of the organization. Besides practitioners in management, many researchers were interested in these groups. Some have highlighted their operational roles in organizations (Lave et Wenger 1991 ; Brown et Duguid, 1991 ; Wenger 1998 ; Smith et Farquhar 2000 ; Lesser et Stork 2001 ; Mc Dermott 2002 ; Guérin 2005 ; Schenkel et Teigland, 2008 ; Hemmasi et Csanda, 2009), and others have tried to identify their structural and epistemic characteristics (Wenger 1998 ; Chanal 2000 ; Cohendet et al., 2003 ; Blunt, 2003 ; Josserand et St Leger, 2004 ; Guérin 2005 ; Thompson 2005.). However, the link between such communities and employee performance is seldom investi¬gated, especially in service firms. This has encouraged us to conduct our study on the relationship between CP and member’s performance in the context of service relationships and more specifically in the front office of these companies. Furthermore, our thesis is part of the Human Resource Management sciences, and we aim to draw some lessons for HRM practices in organizations. This is an attempt to bring the concept of CP and HRM that gives a certain originality in our work. This allows us to get some current common and dominant in the field of study of CP, where contributions are often recorded mainly in the approach to Knowledge Management in organization. • Our problemOur problem is based on the understanding and analysis of the CP's links with the performance of its members. The CP does contribute to the performance of its members in service relationships? To develop these questions, we decided to decompose it as follows:- Is there link between membership of an employee to a CP and its performance in the context of service relationships?- If this link exists, how this last one is built? What are the different mechanisms by which it was constuct in service relationships?- If this link exists, what are the lessons that may have drawn some HRM practices in organizations? • Our Method Following several authors’ advices, we turned in our empirical part to the case study approach. Un empirical work investigating a contemporary phenomenon in its context of real life (Yin, on 1994; Eisenhardt, on 1989 ; Baumard and Ibert, on 1998; Hoepfl, on 2007; Giordano, 2003) Our study is led in the front-office of two public organizations and in a bank (private sector). Eight units composing these devices of reception were studied : four call centers and four reception desks. Our study revealed interesting results. They have greatly enriched the knowledge in the various areas covered, as well as lessons for certain practices in organizations

The white coat effect (WCE) has been known for many years. Its diagnosis is made difficult by the multiple blood pressure measurements to be carried out (in clinic and outpatient). In addition, its cardiovascular influence is poorly understood. In this context, we have developed a concept of office white coat effect tail (OWCET), making it possible to reduce the number of blood pressure measurements to be carried out (in clinic only). It is well correlated with the WCE and less with white coat hypertension. Its cardiovascular impact is significant, especially in women, making EBBR a full-blown cardiovascular risk factor. The recommendations should better understand the WCE to improve its management in clinical practice

Abstract: The aim of this research is to analyze two federal laws: the "Law of Good" and the Law of Informatics. These laws are part of the set of measures related to the scope of the technological policies developed by the Brazilian government, whose instrument is the concession of fiscal incentives. The main intention is to analyze the conception and formulation of these laws, with emphasis on the analysis of government assessment (when it exists). This work presumes that the governmental assessmentof these laws is nonexistent or qualitatively insufficient, which constitutes a major failure of governmental management, since technological policies based on fiscal incentives require from beneficiary companies to achieve some goals as well as financial compensation for the tax incentives. The possible contribution of this research would be to raise shortcomings and failures and to suggest improvements in the formulation of technological policies based on fiscal incentives
