Abstract:
Many procedures performed by podiatric surgeons today require the use of a soft-tissue anchoring device. In recent years, many new anchoring devices have become available for use in the foot and ankle. The authors introduce a new soft-tissue anchoring device that has yet to be described in the podiatric literature and present two cases in which the new anchor was used.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to find out whether the Ogden and Richard theories are still worthy of being a reference for the current situation. This study intended to review the theories that are highly popular in the semantic environment. Ogden and Richard's theory is one of the most popular semantic theories in linguistics. This theory is a very simple theory related to thought/reference, symbol and referent. Besides, this theory is often referred to as a triangle of meaning and a semiotic triangle. Many researchers try to review the Ogden and Richard theory (Theory Triangle) based on the understanding and perspective of the researchers. This study described and compared the similarity and difference between five (5) studies on the triangle of meaning proposed by Ogden and Richard (1923) this study the analysis and employed a comparative study as a qualitative study in nature. This study explored five (5) articles e.g...“Ogden and Richards’ The Meaning of Meaning and early analytic philosophy, Semantic Triangle and Linguistic Sign, Controversies and Misunderstandings about Meaning: On the reception of Ogden and Richards book, (The Meaning of Meaning), Theories of Semantics; Merits and Limitations, Research on Translation Based on Semantic Triangle Theory”. This study sees that the theory of from Ogden and Richards is still worthy of being a reference until now. The studies being used as lens seems giving their positive credits to their study. This means that Ogden and Richards somehow acknowledged being as a prominent study in their field until now.

Abstract:
Schubert Ogden is often considered a process theologican because, drawing upon the philosophies of Alfred North Whitehead and Charles Hartshorne, he holds a “process” view of the nature of reality and of God. But the strategy used in his philosophical theology makes Ogden a sort of “transcendental” theologian as well. I refer to Ogden's argument in The Reality of God that a necessary condition of the possibility of scientific and moral activity is the kind of confidence in the meaning and worth of life that must be seen as an implicit faith in God. This faith might be characterized as innate or a priori because Ogden portrays it not as derived from, but as presupposed by, all our experience; indeed, Ogden claims that such faith is the necessary condition of the possibility of even “secular” scientific and moral experience. Thus one might see this part of his philosophical theology as pursuing a transcendental strategy of argument.

Abstract The Ogden strain-energy function for rubber appears to be gaining popularity among users of finite element analysis. This paper discusses some of the special features of this material model. It explains why nonlinear regression analysis of stress-strain data obtained from just one mode of deformation may yield an Ogden strain-energy function that is unsatisfactory for predicting behavior in other deformation modes. It suggests the regression analysis be constrained such that some of the coefficients are chosen based upon the known behavior of rubbery materials.

Abstract:
Via cyclic loading and unloading tests of natural/styrene-butadiene rubber (NSBR) blends at room temperature, the effects of the stretching, rate, temperature, and volume fraction of carbon black in the filled rubber on a permanent set (residual strain) were studied. The results showed that increasing the stretching, rate, and volume fraction of carbon black and reducing the temperature yielded greater residual strain. The uniaxial tensile behaviors of composites with the Mullins effect and residual strain were simulated using the ABAQUS software according to the aforementioned data. An Ogden-type constitutive model was derived, and the theory of pseudo-elasticity proposed by Ogden and Roxburgh was used in the model. It was found that the theory of pseudo-elasticity and the Ogden constitutive model are applicable to this composite, and if combined with plastic deformation, the models are more accurate for calculating the residual strain after unloading.

Ogden, John. "Altitudinal diversity gradients and the theory of island biogeography - an explanation." Pacific Conservation Biology 8, no. 3 (2002): 213. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/pc020213.

Full text
Abstract:
As part of a wider discussion of forest diversity in New Zealand, Ogden (1995) pointed out that the area available between any pair of contours on a conical mountain decreased with altitude in parallel with the decrease in species richness. This correlation is confounded with other environmental variables, such as temperature, which have been widely considered to be causal in the diversity decline. However, generalization has been elusive, and the supposed causal mechanisms are often couched in vague terms such as "harshness". Ogden chose to emphasize area, and invoked the theory of island biogeography of MacArthur and Wilson (1967) by drawing parallels between islands and successively superimposed areas on mountains. Kingston (this issue) objected, mainly on the grounds that the theory of island biogeography refers to "isolated" areas and deals with the equilibrium between immigration and extinction, on which Ogden presented no evidence. In the light of these criticisms the data presented in Ogden (1995) is re-assessed here. I conclude that the "area hypothesis" is at least as good as any other for "explaining" (correlating with) elevational diversity trends. Area is itself correlated with environmental heterogeneity, which is presumably more important as a causal agent. However, Kingston's insistence on the need for evidence on immigration and extinction to support the application of island biogeography theory is acknowledged.

Abstract The determination of the material coefficients for Ogden, Mooney-Rivlin, Peng, and Peng-Landel material models using simple ASTM D 412 tensile data is shown to be a manageable task. The application of the various material models are shown to be subject to the type and level of deformation expected, with Ogden showing the best correlation with experimental data over a large strain range for the three types of strain investigated. At low strains, all of the models showed reasonable correlation.

Polyurethane (PU) S80A was used as the material of the elastomer of the shock programmer in this paper. To validate Ogden hyper-elastic material model in simulation, the small impact test was performed. As the comparison for the time history of the acceleration between the impact test and simulation was performed. Using the cylindrical shock programmer, the constant used in Ogden hyper-elastic material model was calculated. The wave shape of the acceleration was obtained with the noised sign. To clearly obtain the wave shape of the acceleration the cylindrical shock programmer, the truncated conical shock programmer was used. Using the Ogden hyper-elastic material model, design variables of the shock programmer with the truncated conical shape was studied. Using the shock programmer with truncated conical shape the range on the level and time duration of the acceleration in simulation was from 494.9 m/s2 to 10941 m/s2 and from 1.3 msec to 23.5 msec, respectively.

Abstract:
Objectives: To report patient characteristics, fracture types, treatment methods, and clinical outcomes of children and adolescents treated for tibial tubercle fractures. Methods: Patients age 19 and under treated for tibial tubercle fractures at a single institution from 1995 to 2015 were identified and their medical records were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical and radiographic outcomes were reported for patients with a minimum follow up of 6 months. Associations were tested using Fisher’s exact test. Results: Two-hundred thirty seven tibial tubercle fractures were identified in 229 patients; 198 (86%) male. There were 139 (59%) left sided injuries. Mean age was 14.3 years (range 4.9 - 19.8). Mean body mass index (BMI) was 25. Osgood-Schlatters was identified in 72 (30%) cases and was most commonly associated with Ogden type I fractures (p<0.001). Two-hundred and four (86%) fractures occurred while participating in athletics, most commonly basketball (87, 43%). Of the 228 cases for which mechanism of injury was identified, 69 (30%) occurred while landing, 60 (26%) resulted from a direct blow to the knee, and 51 (22%) occurred while jumping. Ogden III fractures were most common (96, 41%) followed by Ogden I fractures (67, 28%). Initial treatment was surgical for 158 (67%) fractures, of which 58 (37%) underwent reoperation, 53 (34%) for hardware removal. Ogden I fractures were most commonly treated non-operatively (91%) and Ogden II-V fractures were most commonly treated operatively (89%, p<0.001). Elevated BMI was associated with Ogden II-V fractures (p=0.003) and injuries requiring operative treatment (p<0.001). Compartment syndrome was identified in 4 (2%) injuries and required emergent fasciotomy. Prophylactic anterior and/or lateral fasciotomy was performed in 35 (15%) operatively treated injuries. Of the 117 (49%) patients for whom minimum 6-month follow up was documented, 103 (88%) returned to sports; among those treated operatively (87), 2 (2%) developed symptomatic limb length discrepancy, 1 (1%) developed tibial recurvatum, and 6 (7%) developed post-operative infection. At last follow up, 39 (45%) of surgical patients reported pain at the tibial tubercle, 23 (26%) reported pain with squatting, and 13 (15%) had patellar tendonitis. Thirty-seven (43%) complained of hardware prominence. Conclusion: Tibial tubercle fractures occur most commonly in adolescent male athletes and are associated with basketball, elevated BMI, Osgood-Schlatters, and a risk of compartment syndrome. Following treatment, most patients return to sport. As the largest single series of tibial tubercle fractures reported, this study provides valuable insight into injury epidemiology, relationship with Osgood Schlatters, and clinical outcomes.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Four classic strain energy density (SED) functions for incompressible rubber-like materials, neo-Hookean, Mooney-Rivlin, Yeoh, and Ogden forms, are briefly reviewed. The strain–stress relations of the above-mentioned SED functions for uniaxial, planar (pure shear), and equibiaxial deformation modes and formulas for transforming tensile data to compressive data of these three special deformation modes are given. Three approximate criteria are proposed for judging the validity of test data obtained from various methods. It is found that Treloar's data are the most reasonable among six groups of published data judged using the proposed criteria. Different combinations of Treloar's data were used to determine the parameters of these SED functions. The effects of three special tests on determining the parameters of various SED functions using the curve-fitting tools provided by ABAQUS were analyzed. Uniaxial tension data were found to be sufficient for determining the neo-Hookean, Yeoh, and first-order Ogden models, whereas both uniaxial and equibiaxial data were necessary for determining the Mooney-Rivlin and Ogden (N = 2, 3) models, and planar data were unnecessary to determine the parameters for all reviewed SED functions.

Abstract:
Abstract Two classes of constitutive models are widely used in the current literature to describe the general strain state of rubber under large deformations: the Invariant-based (Rivlin type) and the Principal-value based (Ogden type). However, their predictive capabilities, coupled with the finite element method, will greatly depend on the material coefficients determined from experimental stress-strain curves by nonlinear curve fitting. In addition, special care must be exercised in their numerical implementations, which is particularly true for the Ogden type models, when evaluating the material tangent stiffness coefficients. Several issues in connection with these are discussed and a number of simulations and test comparisons are presented.
