Full textBakgrund: Svensk lagstiftning kräver att arbetsgivare arbetar med systematiskt arbetsmiljöarbete (SAM). Under 2016 ledde 44 % av Arbetsmiljöverkets inspektioner till anmärkningar på grund av brister i SAM. Lagen definierar företagshälsovård (FHV) som en objektiv part med expertkunskap inom arbetsmiljö och rehabilitering. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur arbetsmiljöingenjörer inom FHV hjälper kundföretag med arbetet att utveckla och underhålla ledningssystem för arbetsmiljö. Studien syftar också till att identifiera resurser, framgångsfaktorer, nödvändig kompetens samt andra faktorer som främjar arbetet med SAM. Metod: Sex semi-strukturerade intervjuer utfördes med arbetsmiljöingenjörer anställda i ett av Sveriges fem största företag inom företagshälsovård. Resultat och analys: Respondenterna använde liknande arbetssätt i arbetet med att stötta kunders SAM. Detta trots att de arbetade i olika regioner inom företaget samt avsaknad av nationella riktlinjer. I arbetet med SAM använde arbetsmiljöingenjörerna framförallt egenproducerade, flexibla verktyg samt externa checklistor och mallar. Dialog, aktiv deltagande av kund under utveckling av SAM, intern motivation hos kundföretaget samt erfarenhet och kompetens hos arbetsmiljöingenjören beskrevs som de viktigaste framgångsfaktorerna. Slutsatser: Studien visar att de intervjuade arbetsmiljöingenjörernas arbete med SAM i stor utsträckning överensstämmer med vad andra studier funnit vara ett framgångsrikt samarbete med kundföretag. Förbättringsområden för FHV-företaget inkluderar fördjupande av kundrelationer, kontrakt som bättre stödjer sådant samarbete och rutiner för att upptäcka brister i SAM tidigare.En utmaning är att hitta en lämplig balans mellan arbetsmiljöingenjörens behov av fritt arbetssätt, erbjuda kunden flexibla lösningar och samtidigt säkerställa en likartad service inom företaget.Behov av ett mentorprogram, som inkluderar handledning inom både arbetsmiljöarbete och konsultrollen, för arbetsmiljöingenjörer inom FHV-företaget identifierades.Slutligen kan arbetsmiljöingenjörer behöva utveckla kompetens inom arbetsmiljöekonomi samt hur arbetsmiljöarbetet kan integreras med affärsstrategier inom kundföretagen.

Full textCorporate ethics, companies’ adoption of a management focused on the common good, is recognised as a necessary condition for sustainable development. Many companies, especially large companies, have ethics management programmes, but those programmes are often reactive, partial and very dependent on leadership. How do we move from this situation to an effective incorporation of ethics into the company’s culture? We believe a systemic approach is needed. With such premise, the aim of this thesis is to identify what are the necessary conditions for moving to a systemic approach to ethics in companies. We start from five research questions: what characteristics should an ethical performance management system have? What are the characteristics of an ethics-oriented company? What is companies’ approach to ethics? What are the conditions for a Code of Ethics’ adoption in different countries and cultures? And finally, is an ethical culture completely dependent on leaders? In order to answer the above-mentioned questions, in addition to the business and academic literature review, we used multiple methodological approaches and strategies: case study, action research, storytelling, oral history, and grounded theory (with support of MAXQDA software for content analysis). We started by analysing the application questionnaire to the Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies index, which distinguishes companies with excellence in management in the field of ethics. We made that to draw a portrait of what could be considered an ethicsoriented company. Based on this portrait and using grounded theory we started the content analysis of the reports of the 18 European companies distinguished in the 2019 index. We chose that methodology because we wanted to guarantee an open approach to the information provided by companies and to understand, solely through this approach, as well as the cross-checking between different indicators, how ethics was being lived in corporations. We also conducted two case studies: the process of reviewing a code of ethics in a transnational company and the narrative of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), about the impact of a leadership change in the ethical culture of a multinational company. In terms of results, we conclude from our research that a system for ethical management is necessarily a complex system; that a purpose for ethics, clearly assumed and assimilated by companies, is lacking; and that the existence of this purpose is a necessary condition for the system’s existence. We conclude that the system can hardly be based on those who are now the companies’ top managers because they hardly have an ethical leadership, they were not educated to consider ethics as a priority and the shadow of an ethical break would always be present in every change of leadership. One of promotion rather than of ethics management, the system needs, at this point, to be developed by and for the 10 % of the companies’ population that consistently have an ethical behaviour. Those will be the leaders, formal or informal, who can make ethics consistently embedded in the company’s culture.

Full textDados os complexos desafios com os quais o nosso mundo de hoje está confrontado, as universidades são solicitadas a responder à necessidade de criar um futuro sustentável, que ambiciona uma vida digna para as gerações actuais sem comprometer a das gerações futuras. Este trabalho está inserido no debate sobre o desenvolvimento sustentável e sobre o papel das universidades em contribuírem para a construção de sociedades sustentáveis. Incide sobre as oportunidades que sistemas de gestão ambiental (SGA) oferecem para melhorar a sustentabilidade do campus, para envolver a comunidade institucional e para aumentar a sensibilização para práticas sustentáveis na vida académica, profissional e pessoal. O trabalho está baseado numa combinação de métodos qualitativos e quantitativos, utilizando-se uma extensiva revisão de literatura, um questionário online com um desenho de tipo transversal e uma análise de estatística descritiva e bivariada. Os processos de implementação top-down foram comparados com abordagens participativas, e as últimas têm sido utilizadas para desenvolver um grau de desempenho participativo. Fornece-se uma visão geral de 47 instituições de ensino superior na Europa com um SGA no campus, e apresenta-se, com base nos resultados do questionário respondido por 35 universidades, uma análise detalhada dos processos de implementação do SGA nos campi europeus. Entre vários reconhecimentos e aspectos práticos para o envolvimento dos estudantes e colaboradores, os resultados mostram que um SGA pode ser um instrumento fundamental no processo global do reforço da sustentabilidade no campus. Relativamente à abordagem da implementação de um SGA, consideramos como mais eficaz uma abordagem participativa ou uma que combine elementos top-down e participativos, para realizar a dupla missão de uma universidade: (1) Reduzir o impacto ambiental da instituição (2) Executar investigação e ensino, que oferecem oportunidades para aumentar a sensibilização para coerências complexas e desenvolver competências que conduzam a práticas mais sustentáveis.Os resultados podem contribuir para o debate em curso sobre a sustentabilidade do campus e ser de utilidade para as universidades que têm implementado um SGA, ou que desejam obter inspirações das actividades de outras instituições nesta área. Oferece-se sugestões para a prática profissional. In the light of the complex challenges our world of today is confronted with, universities are requested to respond to the need of creating a sustainable future that envisions a dignified life for the current generations without compromising those of next generations. This research is embedded within the debate about sustainable development and about the role universities play in contributing to build sustainable societies. It focuses on the opportunities environmental management systems (EMS) can offer to enhance campus sustainability, student and staff engagement and awareness raising for sustainable practices in the academic, professional and personal life. The research is based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, using an extensive literature review, an internet-mediated questionnaire of a cross-sectional survey design and a descriptive statistical data analysis, including in some cases a bivariate analysis. Top-down implementation processes were compared to participatory approaches and the latter have been used to develop a degree of participatory performance. We provide an overview about 47 higher education institutions in Europe with an EMS at the campus and present, based on the results of the survey answered by 35 universities, a detailed analysis of EMS implementation processes and practices in European campuses. Among a number of insights and practical aspects for student and staff involvement, the results show that an EMS can be a key tool in the overall process to enhance campus sustainability. With respect to the implementation approach of an EMS, we regard a participatory approach or a mix of top-down and participatory elements as most effective to accomplish the twofold mission of a university: (1) To reduce the institutional environmental impact and (2) to carry out research and teaching, offering opportunities to increase awareness for complex coherences and to develop competencies that lead to more sustainable practices. The results shall contribute to the ongoing discussion about campus sustainability and be of use for universities that have implemented an EMS or that wish to get inspirations from other institutions‘ activities in this field. Implications for the professional practice are provided.

Full textThis research, for Master in Environmental Citizenship and Participation (MCAP) studies the relationship between waste-to-energy (WtE) as a form of municipal solid waste treatment in Portugal and Switzerland and its energetic efficiency and potential in attempt to defend this type of disposable is a viable alternative as well preferable to other forms of disposable pathways such as landfill, as well as a energy source. Municipal solid waste has become a Government priority since the half 20th Century, associated to environmental problems and contamination and seen as resource to respond to natural resources depletion. The increase of waste per capita is directly linked both to consumption and better quality of life of modern societies and demands a combination of strategies and managements systems that allows and priorities the reuse of goods and recycling and a profitable way of disposal. Ever since european framework on landfill prohibit the disposal of organic waste as well limited other types of waste has become necessary to find new ways to address the problem of disposal that assures the public health and environmental safety. Therefor WtE immerges as a viable and efficient alternative both as a disposal and electrical energy production. In this context, this research addresses the different municipal waste management systems in Portugal and Switzerland, directed to energy recovery systems, thermal waste treatment and evaluates the potential electrical energy production in WtE facilities in both countries. To do so, a project was accompanied by the author, to a WtE facility in Switzerland, in which an external economizer was installed to increase it the energy potential and the possibility to apply the same methodology in both portuguese WtE. This study is based on thermodynamic calculations, to determent the impacts that this equipment will have in the system as a whole and evaluate if there is a potential waste that could be capture and eventually use in the process, and based on evaluation in place to determent if, in fact, there is enough space to apply and built this structure. Both WtE in Portugal were visit and interviews took place with chef’s departments, to understand the process and collect data that would allow to stablish the potential. Dude to a lack of detail and specific information, it wasn´t possible to make a more exhaustive study. However, is was possible to conclude that the system in Switzerland can be applied in Portugal, were production can be diversified, steam and electrical energy, diversifying incomes as well.

Full textA implementação de um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental (SGA) provoca mudanças significativas no contexto da organização. As alterações proveem de um conjunto de requisitos normativos e disposições legais que deverão ser colocadas em prática por todos os Colaboradores. Pretende-se com o este trabalho relacionar o aumento de conhecimentos em matéria de ambiente com a alteração de comportamentos por parte dos Colaboradores fora do seu contexto de trabalho. Este estudo pretendeu dar um contributo para que se relacione a mudança de atitude/comportamento dos Colaboradores de um setor específico na vertente ambiental, através do seu envolvimento na implementação e manutenção do Sistema de Gestão Ambiental. Esta mudança de atitudes/comportamentos, a nível empresarial, poderá contribuir para uma mudança no desenvolvimento da Sociedade. Trabalhadores formados são Cidadãos informados. Os dados apresentados são resultado de um estudo de caso realizado numa empresa da indústria gráfica. A partir da análise dos questionários realizados a um grupo de trabalhadores de uma indústria gráfica conclui-se que existe uma ligação entre a implementação de um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental e a alteração de comportamentos dentro e fora da empresa. As alterações referidas pelos colaboradores focam-se sobretudo na separação dos resíduos ao nível doméstico e melhoria no controlo de consumos (água e energia). Estabeleceu-se ainda um plano de comunicação e participação com o objetivo de potenciar a formação e a sensibilização dos Colaboradores e outras Partes Interessadas no contexto de implementação de um SGA.
The implementation of an environmental management system (EMS) leads to significant changes in business. Those changes are based in normative and legal requirements and must be put into practice by all employees. The main goal of this work is to relate the growth of environmental knowledge and the of employees behavior changes out of their business context. The study tried to give a contribution towards this relationship between the change of attitudes/behavior of employees - belonging to a specific sector - regarding environmental issues, through their involvement in the development and maintenance of the environmental management system of their company. This type of phenomenon, at the entrepreneurial level, could contribute to a positive change in what concerns the development of our society. Trained workers are better informed citizens. The results presented are the outcome of a case study developed and applied in a printing industry company. From the analysis of a questionnaire survey given to the employees , we conclude that there is a connection between the implementation of an environmental management system and the changes of attitudes and behaviors adopted by workers inside and outside the labor context. The most significant modifications referred by employees are related to the improvement verified in waste management procedures and in control procedures regarding water and energy consumption. In this study a communication and participation plan was also established in order to raise the training of the employees and other stakeholders, within the process of EMS implementation.

Full textThe present work is the result of the case study CEEBJA (Centro Estadual de Educação Básica para Jovens e Adultos) Doutor Mário Faraco. From this investigation, the main object of this paper is the Educational Administration and Management in prison contexto in the city of Piraquara, Parana, Brazil. In this context the problem which involves the theme is founded in the need and absolute necessity for further studies in the environment of prison education. The main objectives of this work are: analyse the context of prison education based on a case study and understand the organizational structure of the educational prison system considering the education of adults. The scientific methodology used is the exploratory Case Study using as a method to collect data the semi-structured interview having as target public collaborators being 1 assistant principal 1 pedagogue, 1 secretary, and 7 teachers who are all part of the administrative and pedagogical organization and execution. As results we present the perspectives of the interviewees, advancements and challenges that have to be overcome as well as aspects of the reality in prison education in the prison system specifically in the investigated case study.

Full textO aumento da dependência de informações, por parte das organizações, levou a um aumento da necessidade de integridade, confidencialidade e disponibilidade dessas mesmas informações. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho procurou estudar os processos de gestão da segurança da informação em uma organização aduaneira, a fim de identificar os principais elementos dessa gestão. Para isso, foi necessário abordar alguns conceitos fundamentais, designadamente: valor da informação, sistemas de informação e segurança da informação. Para alcançar os objetivos da investigação, foi elaborado um estudo sobre o Sistema de Gestão Aduaneiro – ASYCUDA, tendo sido analisandos aspetos relevantes como o conceito, o contexto histórico, a arquitetura e as principais funcionalidades desse sistema. Como resultado da investigação, foi proposta a implementação de um framework das boas práticas de Gestão da Segurança, visando a proteção dos Sistemas de Informação das Organizações. Para isso, foi realizada uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativo e exploratório. Como instrumentos de coleta de dados, foram utilizadas: entrevistas informais; pesquisa bibliográfica e pesquisa documental. Para a análise e tratamento dos dados, foi utilizada a análise de conteúdo. Cocluiu-se que, com a adoção de boas práticas em Segurança da Informação, as organizações podem diminuir os riscos de insegurança, gerando maior valor e garantindo que os investimentos estejam alinhados às estratégias organizacionais. Constata-se, portanto, que quanto mais efetivos forem os mecanismos utilizados para a manutenção da Segurança da Informação, melhor será o desempenho na gestão dos sistemas de informação dentro das organizações.
The increased reliance on information by organizations has led to an increased need for integrity, confidentiality and availability of that information. In this sense, the present work sought to study the information security management processes in a Customs Organization, in order to identify the main elements of this management. For this, it was necessary to address some fundamental concepts, namely: value of information, information systems and information security. o achieve the objectives of the investigation, a study was prepared on the Customs Management System - ASYCUDA, analysing relevant aspects such as the concept, the historical context, the architecture and the main functionalities of this system. Because of the investigation, it was proposed to implement a framework of good security management practices, aiming to protect the Information Systems of Organizations. For this, a qualitative and exploratory research was carried out. As instruments of data collection, the techniques of informal interview were used; bibliographic and documentary research. For data analysis and treatment, it was use content analysis. It was concluded that, with the adoption of good practices in Information Security, organizations could reduce the risks of insecurity, and generating greater value and ensuring that investments are align with organizational strategies. It appears, therefore, that the more effective the mechanisms used to maintain Information Security, the better the performance in the management of information systems within organizations.

Full textTendo em conta os atuais desafios ambientais, sociais e económicos com que os cidadãos se deparam numa base diária, existe uma exigência imposta aos jovens de hoje e decisores do futuro no que concerne à sua preparação para lidar com os desafios de sustentabilidade ambiental vindouros. Impõe-se por propósitos ambientais, sociais e económicos, uma análise do atual estado da educação na sua componente ambiental, não estritamente curricular, e numa etapa menos destacada - o terceiro ciclo e ensino secundário. O atual estudo explora de uma forma global a sustentabilidade ambiental implementada e percecionada nas instituições de ensino de terceiro ciclo e ensino secundário Portuguesas, recorrendo a uma análise quantitativa e qualitativa. Os resultados do presente ensaio, discussão e conclusões, suportam-se num conceito de triangulação de dados. A recolha de dados baseou-se na aplicação e estudo de um inquérito por questionário enviado por correio eletrónico às diversas instituições de ensino do país e na realização e análise de um conjunto de entrevistas telefónicas a instituições selecionadas, tendo por base a primeira recolha dos dados do questionário. A discussão realizada e resultados obtidos, pela baixa taxa de retorno, não permitem compreender de forma fiável o panorama nacional, mas deixam antever grande heterogeneidade e o pequeno número de iniciativas ambientais realizadas pelas instituições escolares. A reduzida sensibilização em relação à temática é também comum. A sustentabilidade ambiental implementada é muitas vezes mínima, tendo frequentemente na sua génese a simples redução de custos, sem qualquer planeamento ambiental e integração associados. A interação entre as entidades de ensino e o tecido empresarial envolvente, juntas de freguesia, câmaras municipais e mesmo governo central, em relação a iniciativas de sustentabilidade ambiental, é diminuta. A existência de sistemas de gestão ambiental é escassa e frequentemente muito simplificada. Falta de motivação, orientação e fraca sensibilidade ambiental são problemas reconhecidos. No curto e médio prazo, no entanto, muitas soluções estão disponíveis, sendo propostas neste trabalho.
The environmental, social and economic issues that citizens face in every-day life demand from the youth of today, - tomorrow decision-makers -, an adequate preparation to deal with the upcoming challenges. A study about the current non-curricular environmental education in middle and high-school institutions is essential at this time of great environmental challenges. This study explores the implemented environmentally sustainable measures and the attitudes toward them in Portuguese middle and high-school educational institutions, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis. This work´s results, discussion and conclusions, are supported through data triangulation. The relevant pillars of this investigation were the implementation and study of an e-mailed questionnaire survey to the several educational institutions in the country and the analysis of twenty two telephonic interviews, conducted to selected institutions based on data collected on the questionnaire. Given the low return rate of questionnaire responses, it was not possible to reliably understand the national panorama in this area of study. The data that were collected, however, pointed to a wide variety of implemented procedures, initiatives and knowledge, with a disappointing trend toward very little environmental awareness, commitment and responsibility, throughout Portuguese schools. Implemented environmental sustainability in Portuguese schools is often reduced to simple cost-reduction measures, with no other planning or integration. The interaction between educational institutions and the business and corporate structure of the region, as well as with municipalities, city-hall´s and even the central government, is almost non-existent. The implementation of environmental management systems is uncommon and usually oversimplified. Lack of motivation, guidance, and weak environmental awareness are recognized problems in Portuguese schools. In the short and medium-term, however, many solutions are available and are proposed in this work.
