The rheological properties of lithium grease and polyurea grease at different temperatures and consistencies were determined with a rotary rheometer. The plateau moduli of the greases were calculated, and the mechanism of influence of consistency and temperature on the rheological properties of the greases was explained. The tribological and wear properties of the two greases were measured by high-temperature friction and wear tester. The friction and wear mechanisms are probed by the rheological properties of lubricating grease. The results show that the plateau modulus GN can be used to asse

Deep groove ball bearings are important mechanical elements in the automotive and process industries, particularly in electric motors. One of the primary reasons for their failure is lubricant degradation due to stray shaft current. Thus, the present work exhibited the failure of bearings under simulated lubricated conditions similar to those of real time bearings failing in presence of stray electric current. The test was conducted using a full bearing test rig with an applied radial load, 496 N, an alternating current, 10 A, and a rotation of 2000 rpm for 24 h. The bearings (6206 series) wer

In this paper, the flow dynamics of polymer greases was investigated using micro-particle image velocimetry. Polymer greases have a different thickener structure, compared to widely used lithium-based greases, and they have the well-known ability to release oil. How these properties affect grease deformation and its ability to flow is investigated and compared to the corresponding behavior of a lithium complex grease with the same consistency. Two main tests were carried out, where velocity profiles in a straight channel were measured and analyzed, and velocity evolution during the transition

Grease hardening and dry-out have been part of the major challenges in grease usage in electrical industry. The findings obtained over the years related to the study of synthetic, specialty, and new grease have found that the usage of these greases are costly; hence, it is very necessary to find an alternative method to reduce the cost as much as possible. Increasing petroleum demands, depletion of petroleum reserves, and the environmental awareness have influenced a huge interest in the use of waste oil as the alternative of base oil for grease formulation. Boiler feed water (BFW) is utilized for steam generation in Once Through Steam Generator (OTSG). As the main source of BFW (~85%), produced water (PW) separated from produced emulsion is treated to lower the content of silicates, oil and grease, and clays, and is softened by anionic cation resin. However, it is hard to remove the colloidal/dissolved organic compounds, which causes fouling and corrosion issues in the boilers and boiler external piping. Unlike

Thermoplastic composites are serious competitor for classic epoxy composites. They have comparable properties to epoxy composites, but characterize much lower processing costs. There are several methods of manufacturing the components from thermoplastic composites. One of the most interesting method in terms of efficiency is thermoforming on a press. This technology allows to product of the aircraft parts such as: ribs, brackets, covers, stiffeners. Thermoplastic composites are resistant to most solvents such as grease, oil and aviation fuel. They are also non-flammable and heat-resistant. Thi

Abstract This paper discusses the reasons for chemically cleaning a boiler at both the pre-operation (pre-commission) stage and the post-operation (post-commission) stage. The internal surfaces of a steam boiler can be chemically cleaned to remove contaminants which effect the efficiency of heat transfer and may ultimately result in failure of the plant. Contaminants may be present inside the boiler as a result of the manufacturing and installation of the boiler, process contamination, poor quality feedwater, poor maintenance or ineffective water treatment. Constructed wetlands are intentionally created systems designed to emphasize specific characteristics of wetland ecosystems to improve landscape, retain stormwater, and enhance its quality. The application of this system has been widely used in several countries as this system is low-cost and sustainable. The treatment performance of constructed wetlands critically relies on the optimal operating parameters, including hydraulic retention time. This prompted the implementation of this study to analyze the effectiveness of retention time variation on constructed wetland performance for domestic

Full text
Abstract:
The advent of American shale oil and its prospects for continued production growth have raised concerns about whether oil refineries can handle the increasingly lighter crude oil supply. To provide a perspective on this issue, we run a global oil refining model for the years from 2017 to 2030. The model’s objective is to maximize refining industry profits in eight global regions, taking into account around 100 grades of crude oil.

Abstract:
Oil palm is the most important export crop in Ghana, aside from cocoa. Compared with cocoa, however, oil palm has a more extensive local value chain, including greater opportunity for local industrial and artisanal processing into palm oil and other products, which creates a high potential for employment generation and poverty reduction; as a result oil palm is classified as a priority crop. The selection of oil palm as a priority crop aims to promote agricultural commercialisation through domestic agroindustry development and exports. In spite of this, the oil palm economy has still not achie

We document the existence of a quantitative relevant banks' balance-sheet transmission channel of oil price shocks by estimating a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with banking and oil sectors. The associated amplification mechanism implies that those shocks explain a non-negligible share of US GDP growth fluctuations, up to 17 percent, instead of 6 percent absent the banking sector. Also, they mitigated the severity of the Great Recession’s trough. GDP growth would have been 2.48 percentage points more negative in 2008Q4 without the beneficial effect of low oil prices. Crown rot is a severe postharvest disease affecting tropical and subtropical fruits like mango, avocado, papaya, and banana. It is caused by fungal pathogens that penetrate the fruit, reducing its pulp and leading to premature ripening. Systemic fungicides have been used to control these fungi, typically applied to seeds, leaves, or fruits to prevent disease spread. However, traditional fungicides can pose toxicity risks to the environment and human health. Essential oils are chemical substances that can be found in plants and have antifungal capacity. Essential oils are being investigated as

Abstract:
This paper discusses recent trends in investment in the oil sector, amid new challenges for national and international oil companies in an increasingly supply-constrained environment. After more than a decade of stagnant investment rates, nominal investment has picked up sharply over the three years ending in 2007, but soaring costs (including from higher tax rates and royalties) meant that investment growth was minimal in real terms. The paper performs econometric tests using the Arellano-Bond GMM technique. It finds that `below ground¿ risks are statistically very important in deterring real

Mexico is one of the world's leading oil producers; it currently ranks tenth worldwide and first in the Latin American and Caribbean region. However, in the last 10 years, oil production has fallen by almost a million barrels a day. Declines in Crude oil exports have led to increases in imports, and negatively affected the balance of trade. To reverse this trend, the federal government promoted a reform in the energy sector which was approved in December 2013. This reform declared that oil and gas exploration and production were strategic activities, and promoted private investment in the hydr

Abstract:
Producing construction materials requires a great amount of energy, and in Saudi Arabia, this production currently entails the use of substantial amounts of liquid fuels. Liquid fuels are mostly sold at below-market prices domestically, and thus result in large opportunity costs for the government. Saudi Arabia’s interests reside in displacing higher-value liquid fuels with more appropriate alternatives. The Saudi government plans to encourage the displacement of oil by reforming the below-market oil prices. Alternatives could include other fuels and more energy-efficient manufacturing process

This discussion paper presents a survey of the changes in Latin America's energy consumption over the last 30 years, before considering the trends that will affect the region in the coming decades. It highlights several important issues, including the growing demand for oil, which has prompted a resurgence of resource nationalism and the revitalization of national oil companies in the region. Regional oil policy has also been boosted by the growth of China, which is now a major player in the Latin American energy sector, as both consumer and financier. Natural gas consumption has also grown in
