Food production and food security in Niger Delta Region (NDR) have been hampered by oil spillage leading to poor agricultural output with possible negative implications on welfare of farming households. A four-stage sampling procedure was used. The states of Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers were randomly selected from the four major oil-producing states in NDR. Nine Local Government Areas (LGAs): 2, 3, and 4, respectively, were selected from Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers based on the prevalence of oil spillage. A total of 45 communities were chosen in the LGAs comprising 10, 15 and 20 communities propo

Abstract The prediction of the CO2 corrosion rate is quite important in the design of the corrosion control methods for well tubular, pipelines and other components in the Oil and Gas industry. The paper deals with the discussion of case histories relevant to the CO2 corrosion failure of carbon steel components in oil production. The morphology (uniform or localised attacks), corrosion rate, and operating conditions are examined and discussed comparing them to the output of the prediction models, available in the literature, for the CO2 corrosion prediction.

The objective of this paper is to study the oil spillage process which corresponds to various tank designs. For this purpose, analytical calculations and time domain simulations were applied. Numerical simulations have been performed to verify the models. Good agreement has been found between the results obtained from the simplified analytic model and those from the CFD calculations for predicting the oil spill from different hull designs. The volume and efflux rates of oil that are based on the suggested model are comparable to those obtained by means of numerical simulations.

This report highlights the changes between 2017 and 2019 for five APRA indicators, including agricultural commercialisation (input and output), employment, poverty (income, subjective poverty and household asset

Abstract:
By storing carbon dioxide CO2 captured from the atmosphere or point sources into oil fields, carbon capture and storage with enhanced oil recovery (CCS-EOR) increases the fields’ output by raising reservoir pressures. Since CO2-EOR has been experimented with for decades and the revenues from the additional oil production improve projects’ economics, CCS-EOR is the most readily deployable CCS technology. However, public support for CCS-EOR projects is sometimes contested on the grounds that the resulting increase in oil production undermines their environmental benefits. Addressing this concern

Abstract:
There is a growing wave of concern for the embodied carbon in traded goods. One manifestation of that concern is large economies such as the USA and the European Union enacting climate-related trade measures, including border carbon adjustment. This paper reviews more than ten climate-related trade measures that are currently enacted or under discussion globally and five initiatives from large companies to source low-carbon inputs. It then assesses Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Perus vulnerability to trade restrictions, based on estimated greenhouse gas intensity of their exported goods (usi

The last decade has brought a row of substantial changes that have profound implications for the traditional hydrocarbon resource-rich economies. Economic conditions may change radically either throughout a decade or within months. The question is whether there is no other option for a hydrocarbon resource-rich economy than to be held hostage to the fluctuations in global oil prices. The general answer to a changing environment is: Adapt! From the macroeconomic perspective, this means diversifying the economy to broaden the income base and significantly reduce the dependence on oil revenues. T

Islam, Wajid, and Junaid Ahmed. To Borrow or Not to Borrow: Empirical Evidence from the Public Debt Sustainability of Pakistan. Asian Development Bank Institute, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.56506/mowj8135.

Abstract:
We aim to evaluate the public debt sustainability of Pakistan using the debt sustainability analysis (DSA) framework and fiscal reaction function (FRF). For the empirical analysis, we use relevant important macroeconomic variables, such as public debt, external debt, primary balance, output growth, current account balance, and oil prices, over the period 1976–2021. The results of the DSA suggest that, at the 10% growth rate with a real interest rate lower than 10%, the public debt level can be brought under the 60% standard sustainable limit from the current 80% by the year 2030. Abstract:
This Working Paper assesses the impact on investment of a reduction in corporate taxes and the impact on employment, labor formality, and growth of a reduction in non-wage labor costs in Colombia. First, and following Hall and Jorgensen (1967), we estimate an investment function, which depends on the user cost of capital, one of whose determinants is the corporate tax rate. Our estimations suggest that a reduction of the corporate tax rate from 33 to 23 percent--as originally envisioned by the government in early 2012, but finally not included in the reform submitted to Congress--has very diff

Northern Ireland occupies a unique position following Brexit and the Windsor Framework. It is part of the UK fiscal, welfare and monetary unions – where the main policy levers are mostly exercised at a UK national level – along with its national economic policies for devolved administrations and regions. Simultaneously, it remains within the EU Single Market for goods with Dual EU/UK regulatory regimes, participates in the Common Travel Area (CTA) between the United Kingdom and Ireland and is supported by a commitment to continue specified areas of North-South cooperation. 1.1 Macroeconomic summary Economic recovery has consistently outperformed the technical staff’s expectations following a steep decline in activity in the second quarter of 2020. At the same time, total and core inflation rates have fallen and remain at low levels, suggesting that a significant element of the reactivation of Colombia’s economy has been related to recovery in potential GDP. This would support the technical staff’s diagnosis of weak aggregate demand and ample excess capacity. The most recently available data on 2020 growth suggests a contraction in economic activity of 6.8%, lowe
