Chondrostereum purpureum the casual fungus of silverleaf disease was grown on solid media supplemented with a range of oligosaccaride carbon sources Extracellular extracts were analysed for a range of wooddegrading enzymes The results indicate that C purpureum is a highly specialised plant pathogen which does not produce lignin degrading enzymes Cellulose substrates produced slow growth of the fungus but induced large amounts of enzymes able to degrade celluloses xyloglucans and pectins Growth on Link pectin and pectin was rapid with the induction of enzymes able to degrade pectins and cellula

β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) is a cyclic oligosaccaride with an apolar cavity that shows a certain degree of selectivity in binding organic and inorganic compounds. Lauryl sulfobetaine (LSB) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), having the same hydrophobic and different polar groups are used in order to compare the influence of the polar group on complex formation with β-CD. The surface tension increased as β-CD is added to premicellar region of amphoteric (LSB) and cationic surfactant (DTAB) solutions. Application of mid infrared spectroscopy in diabetic tissues will be presented which highlight the promise of this technique in medical research. Examples presented mainly will focus on diabetic rat heart crude membranes. Diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced in rats by streptozotocin (STZ) injection that is one of the most popular experimental models for the study of type I diabetes. The shift in the peak positions, bandwidths and the intensity of the bands in FTIR spectra were analyzed to have valuable structural and functional information, which may have diagnostic value. The adsorption properties of water molecules on oligo and polysaccharides are attributed to the OH groups of the glucose rings in the molecules. The water molecules are adsorbed onto OH groups by hydrogen bond formation. Near infrared spectroscopic and gravimetric techniques were used in analysing the adsorption characteristics of malto-oligosaccharides and some polysaccharides. Near infrared spectra of the dry oligo and polysaccharides were acquired during the adsorption of water molecules at a relative humidity of 50-55%. Methods PD patients with constipation (ROME III criteria) were randomized to receive a multi-strain probiotic (Lactobacillus sp and Bifidobacterium sp at 30 X 109 CFU) with fructo-oligosaccaride or placebo (fermented milk) twice daily for 8 weeks. Abstract Chitinase and chitin-oligosaccaride can be used in multiple field, so it is important to develop a high-yield chitinase producing strain. Here, a recombinant Pichia pastoris with 4 copies of ChiA gene from Bacillus licheniformis and co-expression of molecular chaperon HAC1 was constructed. The amount of recombinant ChiA in the supernatant of high-cell-density fermentation reaches a maximum of 12.7 mg/mL, which is 24-fold higher than that reported in the previous study. The recombinant ChiA can hydrolyze 30% collodidal chitin with 74% conversion ratio, and GlcNAc is the most abundant h

The growth and the metabolism of Bifidobacterium adolescentis MB 239 fermenting GOS, lactose, galactose, and glucose were investigated. An unstructerd unsegregated model for growth of B. adolescentis MB 239 in batch cultures was developed and kinetic parameters were calculated with a Matlab algorithm. Galactose was the best carbon source; lactose and GOS led to lower growth rate and cellular yield, but glucose was the poorest carbon source.
