Abstract:
The verb valda ‘cause’ in Icelandic standardly has the past participle/supine valdið, but an alternative form is ollið (ollað). This verb governs dative case with objects, which is preserved in passive in standard Icelandic. However, in a few examples, nominative is found instead, in which case an inflected form of the participle shows up (ollnar), agreeing with the nominative sub-ject of the passive clause. Such instances can be understood on the pre-sumption that the speakers in question not only have the alternative form of the participle, but also substitute nominative for dative in passiv

Students frequently struggle to access important academic information on the existing college website. Navigating a standard college website to acquire key academic information can take time, especially during exam periods when students struggle to find facts such as faculty profiles, class calendars, and exam dates. To address these issues, our project introduces StudentEase, an AI-powered interactive chatbot that functions as a virtual assistant for students. In this dissertation based on empirical studies conducted by the author and reprinted as a series of articles in the text, Kuure studies the development of different types of bilingualism. The primary purpose of the studies is to determine the significance of age in the acquisition of a second language. Evidence is also provided for describing the acquisition and use of languages in various multicultural and multilingual settings. Data for the studies were obtained from Finnish-Swedish bilingual students between the ages of 13 and 15 for whom Swedish was the second language.

This paper explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) in power systems, focusing on their potential to revolutionize control, optimization, and decision-making processes. We present a comprehensive review of current research and applications, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in this emerging field. A practical example is provided, demonstrating the implementation of an LLM agent for power system control using Python. The power system is modeled using Pandapower, while the LLM agent is based on Llama 3, executed through Ollama. Our findings suggest that LLMs can signi

In the three decades surrounding the Spanish-American war (1880-1910), three prominent Puerto Rican artists, Francisco Oller (1833-1917), Manuel E. Using a set of motifs involving clothes, customs, domestic architecture and agricultural practices unique to rural Puerto Rico, they contributed to the imagination of a communal identity for creoles at the turn of the century. In the first half of the chapter, I focus specifically on the role of touch in dog-human language-games, drawing on insights about touch in phenomenology, critical animal studies, and the work of Irigaray. I then turn to animal politics, and investigate how we can take dog agency seriously politically, through an investigation of Olli’s diplomatic skills. Olli not only helped me to understand the kind of wisdom and insight that dogs have with regard to the multispecies community, but also showed me how this unde
