ABSTRACT Introduction Olympic weightlifting has been adopted as an alternative to plyometric exercise. However, the effects of these exercises in young handball athletes is not known. Objective To compare the effect of Olympic weightlifting training with traditional strength training on jumping, squatting and acceleration performance in young handball athletes. Ten female handball athletes were evaluated. After six weeks of regular training, the athletes underwent eight weeks of training specifically designed for the survey, with equivalence of the total volume of training and differences in t

BACKGROUND: The multifidus muscle is located near the spine and controls the erection of the spine and stabilization during movements of the spine and extremities, and assists in all other spinal movements. Differences in paraspinal muscles between sides and levels, particularly in he multifidus, have been proposed as possible indicators of low back pain or spinal pathology. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the cross-sectional area of the lumbar multifidus muscle at L4-L5 vertebral levels on ultrasound images of athletes in Olympic-style weightlifting, judo athletes and sedentary individu

<p> Recent motor control literature has demonstrated that using verbal cues to direct a performer&rsquo;s attention externally (i.e. toward movement outcome) enhances motor skill performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate how an athlete&rsquo;s focus of attention impacts kinematic performance of the snatch. 12 competitively trained athletes performed blocks of 3 snatch repetitions at 80% 1RM following internal and external instructions. The results indicated that athletes adopting an internal focus increased elbow velocity relative to an external, while an external focus increa

Abstract:
Rugby is a power-oriented sport for which the Olympic lifts are considered supplementary activities in developing explosive strength. However, as complex specialist skills, many strength and conditioning coaches find these difficult to teach. This is compounded by the lack of research into skill acquisition aspects of the Olympic weightlifting, and the conflicting advice offered by cognitive and ecological camps within the motor learning literature. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the influence of learning strategy on co-ordination when acquiring the weightlifting clean.

Twelve unexperienced participants and 7 weightlifters performed sets of power cleans, and muscle synergies were extracted from electromyography (EMG) data of 16 muscles. First, we analyzed mus
