Results showed that the calculated t-value in experimental group was found to be 5.59 which is significant at 0.01 level. Calculated t-value in control group was found to be 1.00 which is not significant even at 0.05 level. Result reveals that there is a significant positive effect of ‘OM’ chanting meditation on the psychological well-being of adolescents.

Abstract:
A considerable interest has been generated since ages for knowledge about the bead with the universe symbol- Om. The word Om is known and considered as the beginning, middle and the end of present, past and the future. The chanting of Om brings awareness about the physical reality of the world and the human body, the subtle impressions of the mind, emotions, thoughts and beliefs of our life. According to the Indian philosophy, Om is a spiritual symbol referred to as Atman (soul) and Brahman (reality, entirety of the universe, truth, divine, supreme spirit, cosmic principles & knowledge). This syllable is one of the most important symbols in universal religion, and often found in Vedas, Upanishads & other ancient texts. It is the sacred spiritual chanting made during the recitation of spiritual texts, puja and prayers, ceremonies, weddings, meditations & Yoga. In the present work, morphological studies have been carried out to see the surface of rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) which indicates the presence of the universal symbol as a common sight in the divine beads of rudraksha. During microscopical studies it was observed that the Om symbol was present on the surface of various cells of rudraksha bead indicating the existence of Om at cellular level. The present study further strengthens the belief that the presence of symbol Om in Universal.

Abstract:
Throughout its history, church chanting practice and chant writing has constantly gone beyond the framework established by the ecclesiastical canon of the Octoechos. This can be clearly seen in the analysis of melodic samples of the most diverse hymnographic national traditions. The article is dedicated to the 16-mode system mentioned in the theoretical treatises on music by the prominent Armenian music theorist from Constantinople Grigor Gapasakalian (17401808) the Small Book Called Music Collection, the Book on Music and the Book of Octoehos. The study of these writings showed a presence of an extended canon that included 4 essential, 4 plagal, 4 medial and 4 phtoral modes, these corresponding to the 16-mode system of the asma in the byzantine theory of church music. This clarifies that the essence and purpose of the 16-mode system existed both among the Greeks and Armenians. And that testifies it as a complex, ramified and multi-tiered original modal system, which nonetheless does not exhaust the modal variety of living chanting art.

Abstract:
Meditation and yoga both have positive effects on physical, as well as mental health. Om mantra chanting, a simple and easy to practice, also comes under the aspect of meditation. The “Om” mantra is also considered as the very name of the absolute. Om meditation not only affects the various parts of the brain, such as pre-frontal cortex, vagus nerve, amygdala and others but also affects the heart rate and respiratory rate. Considering the healing effects of Om meditation, through this paper, we are trying to explore all the relevant work done in the field of Om meditation. The survey includes a large number of papers covering the research previously conducted by many researchers, their results and different techniques adopted to study the effect of Om meditation on human beings. Studies on Om meditation are categorized under four different heads: Neuroimaging studies, EEG studies, evoked potentials studies and other methods studies. Even though the existing research evidenced capability of Om meditation in curing anxiety and depression, more rigorous studies with better design, with larger sample size and with different control groups are required. Especially the need to explore untouched research areas of Loud Om meditation using EEG is suggested in the paper. Furthermore, future research directions are also suggested.
