O citalopram (CITA), inibidor seletivo da recaptação da serotonina, é disponível na clínica como mistura racêmica dos enantiômeros (+)-(S) e (-)-(R) ou como enantiômero puro (+)-(S)-CITA. O CITA é metabolizado pelo CYP2C19, CYP2D6 e CYP3A ao desmetilcitalopram (DCITA) e pelo CYP2D6 ao didesmetilcitalopram.
