Full textThe purpose of this study is to examine the influence of leadership on co-workers during a re-organization. Our framing of the problem is based on a book written by Lee G. Bolman and Terrence E. Deal (2007) “Reframing organizations – artistry, choice and leadership” and their four perspectives on leadership. The questions that our study is based on are:
- What leadership perspective was characteristic for the chief of staff during the re-organization?
- How did the employees experience the leadership of the chiefs during the re-organization?
- In what way do the chiefs of staff feel that their leadership affected the employees during the re-organization?
To get a deeper understanding in this subject we conducted interviews with the two chiefs of staff and their employees in a small suburb to Stockholm, Sweden. In our background we described the history of the suburb and why this re-organization is taking place. Thereafter we account for research in this area of expertise. In chapter five we account for the four perspectives and organization culture. We analyzed our interviewed material from these four perspectives and organization culture. Thereafter we conducted a conclusion based on the analyzed material. We concluded that both chiefs of staff were influenced by all four perspectives and this influence had different impacts on their employees. One chief were influenced by a Human Resource-perspective and a perspective focusing on structure. The second chief was also influenced by a perspective focusing on structure but also the perspective that focuses on politics.

Full textIn this study, experiences of the Police Agency reorganization were investigated. The study is based on a qualitative method where semi-structured interviews have been conducted with eight active police officers which were working while the implementation of the reorganization occurred. The purpose of the degree project was to create a deeper understanding of the police officer's experiences of the Police Authority's reorganization. In order to fulfill the purpose, three questions had been formulated: "how do the police describe the reorganization of the Police Authority?", "if and in what way do the police feel that the reorganization has affected their sense of organizational belonging?" and "if and in what way do police officers feel that the reorganization has affected their professional practice?". The collected empirical data was analyzed on the basis of the theoretical framework, which consisted of theory of organizational culture, organizational identity and the demand, control and support model. The result indicated that all of the informants felt that the reorganization changed their professional practice, but also the organizational belonging. The implementation of the reorganization was perceived as confusing and the information exchange inadequate for the work of change to be carried out satisfactorily. There are also no resources to implement the change work as planned, instead they have been placed at Regional Management Centers around the country. It leaves the local business without resources and the local presence highly valued among the police officers is overridden. However, it became clear how supportive the social support among the informants was in dealing with the demanding work situation. A well-functioning interaction with colleagues and superiors became a prerequisite for coping with the physically and mentally stressful work that the reorganization generated, something that indicated the importance of having the organizational culture in mind when reorganizing.

Full textThe aim was to investigate how communication between managers and employees during an organizational change is experienced. Five subjects participated, notified of staying in the organization or having been laid off. Results indicated five themes: Clear communication, Same information to all employees, External influences, Empathic communication and Support. Given this, results indicate that a major focus should be on communication between manager and employees during a reorganization. A relation between clear communication was of importance to the employees' mood, it was also shown that same type of information should be released at the same time to all employees in order to avoid rumor spread and concern. Finally, results suggest that management and managers should show empathy and be supportive during a reorganization.

Full textAim The municipalities in Norway have for the last decades been given a lot of new tasks and the economy has been poor. In order to reduce costs many municipalities has chosen to restructure the organisation. There has been little attention given to what a reorganisation really costs in terms of loss of time, frustrations, stress, increased sick leave and actual expenditures. Method 14 employees from all over the organisation were interviewed on their experiences with reorganisations. These results were put together with the results of the sick leave statistics and the numbers from the accounts. Result The employees were very concerned not to exaggerate the use of time. They would rather not estimate any time used. All the same, the time used was of incredible dimensions. This municipality’s statistics on sick leave did not give any evidence that the reorganisations caused more sickness in the organisation. But the employees told about being sick from the processes. The expenses for the reorganisation process were accounted for in the ordinary accounting system. It was not possible to identify and extract the actual expenses 3 – 4 years later. The exception was the expenses connected to the consultants. Conclusions The expenses in terms of time used are huge. The employees get sick from stress and lack of control, increased workload, pressure and uncertainty. Expenses as the costs of consultants, expenditures of new outfits and moving expenditures must also be considered. In an evaluation of the savings made through a reorganisation, the all expenses must be considered in full in order to have a true evaluation. Until today such evaluation do not seem to have been done. It is a recommended to do further research on this subject

Full textAtt välja rätt nätverksoperativsystem för verksamheten vid en omorganisation av nätverket är en svår uppgift. Rätt nätverksoperativsystem är avgörande för hur nätverket i organisationen eller företaget skall fungera. När en omorganisation planeras kan andra nätverksoperativsystem, som kan passa verksamheten bättre, än det existerande systemet väljas. Valet av system beror till exempel på vilken nivå av säkerhet, åtkomlighet, utbyggbarhet, ekonomisk kostnad och driftsäkerhet nätverket skall ha.
Denna rapport fokuserar på val av nätverksoperativsystem. Detta görs med avseende på hur det är möjligt att implementera säkerhet, åtkomlighet och driftsäkerhet. Målet är att förse Högskolan i Skövde med ett förslag på nätverksoperativsystem. Förslaget baseras på de problem, krav och önskemål på ett framtida nätverk, som har framkommit under de intervjuer som har gjorts. Rapporten resulterar i ett förslag på det nätverksoperativsystem som borde passa skolan bäst. Förslaget grundas alltså på de aspekter som utrönades i litteraturstudien för systemen jämfört med de aspekter som gavs i de intervjuer som gjorts. Valet stod mellan de tre olika nätverksoperativsystemen: Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT och Sun Solaris.

Full textThis thesis examines the subject of change in public administration from an instrumental and an institutional structure perspective. The purpose of the thesis is to examine whether institutional structures affect the development of instrumental structures and if it in turn is possible to affect institutional structures by changing the instrumental structures. This case study is primarily based on a series of deep interviews with senior administrators and politicians within two new administrations in the municipality Karlstad, both which have been created by merging several smaller administrations, but also thorough analysis of several official document such as protocols from the municipal council meetings, Tjänsterskrivelser and internal PMs. The result of the analysis indicates that both institutional structures and the forming instrumental structures affect each other and that their ability to affect each other depends on the dominance over the organization each structure has. In my specific research case we can see that the institutional structure of the city-technical and housing administration has affected the outcome but the institutional structure of the cultural and tourism administration hasn’t. While the structural change of the city-technical and housing administration hasn’t effected the institutional structure but the structural change of the cultural and tourism administration has affected the institutional structure of this specific administration.
