Full textEn mixer kallas även omrörare, eftersom dess huvuduppgift är att hålla vätska i rörelse. Vid all typ av omrörning krävs någon form av turbulens och bulkflöde. Mixerns dragkraft är det som avgör hur stort bulkflödet kan bli. I en mixer passerar vätskan propellern snabbt och strömningen är på så vis huvudsakligen axiell. Vätskan sätts även i rotation, men rotationshastigheten på vätskan är mycket mindre än propellerns hastighet. Då vätskan passerar propellern ökas den totala energin i form av statiskt tryck och rörelseenergi. Det statiska trycket ger upphov till dragkraften. Rörelseenergin kommer av att vätskan sätts i rotation och är i många fall inte önskvärd. För att få maximalt statiskt tryck eller dragkraft ska därför vätskans rotation vara så liten som möjligt. Detta kan åstadkommas genom förrotation av vattnet. Målet med detta examensarbete är att utveckla ledskenor som kan skapa den förrotation som krävs för att eliminera vätskans rotationshastighet, samt att genom tester verifiera att detta fungerar. För att kunna genomföra tester i små tankar tillverkades nedskalade modeller av mixern 4620 med SLS-teknik i Duraform PA. Dessutom tillverkades en testrigg med syfte att mäta mixrarnas dragkraft. Testresultat för modellerna visade att vid användandet av ledskenor ökar mixerns dragkraft med mellan 10-20 % beroende på om mixern utrustats med jetring eller inte, jämfört med en vanlig mixer. Verkningsgraden var vid användandet av ledskenor mellan 1-5 % högre än för en vanlig mixer, beroende på om jetring användes eller inte. Jetstråletester på modellerna visade att jetstrålen blir längre, stabilare och får en högre hastighet vid användande av ledskenor och jetring. En fullskalig prototyp tillverkades genom friformsframställningsmetoden SLS, efter att sju koncept tagits fram och utvärderats. Dragkraftstester gjordes på prototypen på ITT Flygt i Lindås, som visade att dragkraften ökar med mellan 5-15 % beroende på vilken propellervinkel som användes och om mixern var utrustad med jetring eller inte. Verkningsgraden ökade med upp till 7,5 %.

Full textThe thesis in product development – design was carried out between February and June 2013 and includes 15 credits (C-level), and is the final course of the Bachelor Program in Engineering, Innovation and Product Design. The thesis dealt with the problem of adaptation to production and cost optimization of two pieces of electromagnetic stirrers at the company ABB, Process Automation, Metallurgy in Västerås. After contact with the supervisor from ABB, Jan-Erik Eriksson, the project work commenced to adapt the manufacturing design of the product ORD 43P and EM Stabilizer. To achieve cost-optimized production and production adapted design, the authors applied the following product development tools: Design for Cost, Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly. To verify that the design was optimal, but also that it did not break during stress, the authors used the computer based module finite element method of the CAD program SolidWorks. The selection of components was based on the component’s price per kilo. To select the optimum material, that is high strength and affordable, the authors used the material database software CES EduPack. The materials selected from CES EduPack could not be found by the authors as standard material at the market. Therefore, the authors changed strategy to compare and select materials based on market research of standard materials with suppliers. The components of ORD 43P were optimized in terms of design in comparison with existing components coil bracket and insulation boards. They were also cost reduced significantly. The component frame base was examined briefly. Through product development the components coil bracket, insulating boards and frame base the total cost of ORD 43P was reduced by 2,47 %. The authors found that the total cost of ORD 43P could be reduced between 10-25 % as many of its components are oversized and made of more expensive materials than needed. The components of EM Stabilizer, cover and pneumatic hose, were designed with optimum design and was cost reduced.Through product development the components cover and pneumatic hose the costs of EM stabilizer were reduced by 1,3 %. The authors assume that the costs of the EM Stabilizer can be reduced, because it is relatively new at the market. ABB want to ensure that the product reach its guaranteed life by over-sizing many of the components of the product and use more expensive material than necessary.

Full textLoussavaara Kirunavaara AB (LKAB) have been suffering from several agitator failures in their slurry tanks, part of their pellet plants. These failures have been caused by axle fractures, hub cross fractures and damaged bearings. These failures results in production losses that can cost the company sums around 10 million SEK. To minimize the number of future failures, a new concept been developed for the next generation of agitators. Criteria for this concept have been generated by analyzing the previous failures to identify flaws in the current solutions. Calculations, interviews, design concepts and comparisons between different partial solutions were preformed to generate partial concepts. These partial concepts were then compared using a morphological matrix. Selection of the suggested concept was made by evaluating all the developed concepts in comparison to the current solution using a Pugh-matrix. The author has throughout the work been drawing on his three-year full time experience of working as an automation technician at LKAB. The herein proposed concept is assessed to be usable for construction of the next generation of agitators. Partial concepts are assessed by the author to be able to implement on current agitator solutions at LKAB.

Full textThis report covers a project carried out as a course degree project for a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Karlstad University. For a long time there have been operational problems with the popedissolver in a process industry for pulp and paper, the availability of the equipment has been low for a long time and with several breakdowns. The thesis project has been aiming to make a service-friendly redesign of the stirrer with an increased availability of the equipment. The operational problems were initially seen as a result of long-term operation with too high rotational speed. This has resulted in heavy strain on the stirrer components, with mechanical wear and leakage as a consequence. The redesign has been planned for a long time before this project without attaining any results. To ensure that the correct problem were solved, a root cause analysis was made. Which together with a requirement analysis, was the foundation the project was based on. A number of concepts for different solutions were brainstormed and presented to the employer. Of these only one concept passed the Pahl and Bietz elimination matrix. The design underwent a continuous risk analysis to eliminate risks and redesign the equipment throughout the project. The work resulted in a redesigned driveline with a corrected output speed, along with a refurbishment of the stirrer components making the stirrer capable of managing the continuous operation and 100 % availability demanded by the employer. This was done with standard components where possible, in addition to that a few components has also been manufactured specifically for this project. For the new equipment, a preventive maintenance program was developed as a result of the root cause analysis, along with all technical documentation relating to the design it was handed over to the employer. The project was carried out within both the economic limitations and the timeframe. A quality improvement in the dissolved pulp became a positive side effect of the project. This was nothing that the project was attempting to solve initially but was growing as thought during the course of the project. It proved to be of great importance to the mills continuous quality work.

Full textHalmstad Högskola är för närvarande utrustad med en Ekofri kammare för att utföra EMCtestning, men ingen modväxlande kammare. Konstruktionen av en paddle-omrörare för användning i Halmstad Högskola skulle drastiskt minska tiden som krävs för att utföra EMC-testning, eftersom modväxlande kammaren är effektivare än en ekofri kammare för dessa typer av tester.Målet med detta projekt var att designa och utveckla en paddle-omrörare, både strukturen samt ett styrsystem som kan rotera den till specifika repeterbara absoluta vinklar med en noggrannhet av en tiondel av en grad, hantera en massa upp till 70 kg och rotera en massa upp till 20 kg fördelad på en 1x1m yta. För att uppnå detta mål har systemet konstruerats med en basstruktur gjord av metall, lager har placerats i axeln för att reducera friktion, en stegmotor är anslutentill kugghjul för att öka vridmomentet, en magnetisk roterande sensor och ett styrsystem med en dubbel återkoppling från interrupts och från sensorn för att förbättra systemets noggrannhet och tillförlitlighet. Resultatet är en helt fungerande prototyp som uppfyller alla krav, förutom hastigheten. Målhastigheten har inte uppnåtts på grund av otillräckligt vridmoment hos stegmotorn.
