Abstract:
The paper summarizes and examined extensive evidence on the environmental, geological and technological challenges of exploration and production of oil and gas, encountered during the development of the gigantic fields. Investigated environmental problems of underground disposal of wastes, the formation of zones of technogenic pollution, ecology megalonyx pressures and many others. Describes the environmental effects of oil and gas companies on the environment. The proposal for reducing the negative anthropogenic influence on the geoecological conditions of the environment. Justified the monitoring of the exploration and exploitation of deposits of natural raw materials. Is designed to masters, post-graduate students and students studying on the specialty "Environmental Geology", "Geology and Geochemistry of combustible minerals", "Geology of marine oil and gas fields", "Hydrogeology and engineering Geology", a wide range of scientific and industrial workers of the oil and gas industry, high school teachers and graduate students geoenvironmental, environmental, oil and gas fields.

Christopherson, Susan. Outside Regional Paths: Constructing an Economic Geography of Energy Transitions. Edited by Gordon L. Clark, Maryann P. Feldman, Meric S. Gertler, and Dariusz Wójcik. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780198755609.013.52.

Abstract:
Moving beyond theories of socio-technical adaptation, a new economic geography of energy transitions is developing that contributes to a deeper understanding of adaptation and change in energy systems. This new geography of energy transitions draws on concepts in evolutionary economic geography but moves beyond regional analysis to recognize the nation state as a critical venue for strategic action by firms. The dependence on the nation state for access to the resource; financing of exploration and production; favourable regulatory oversight; and the infrastructure to transport the commodity to profitable markets, make it the essential venue for strategic action. Drawing on the US case of shale gas and oil extraction, this chapter argues that, despite the emergence of global production networks in the oil and gas industry, national-scale governance remains central to understanding energy transitions.

Abstract:
While the literature on the water-energy nexus tends to focus on scarcity and security, scientific research is revealing increasing concerns with the impact of energy production on water quality. This chapter explores the politics of energy and water quality, with a focus on water contamination associated with coal and shale gas development. It presents evidence of the effects of fossil fuel exploration and production on water quality, noting the life cycle water quality impacts of the coal industry and emerging work on the effects of unconventional shale gas and tight oil associated with hydraulic fracturing. While the science is drawn primarily from the United States, the chapter then considers the global implications of these findings for policy design. It argues that current regulatory approaches are mismatched with the environmental risks and calls instead for a holistic approach to policy design and management that brings together the energy and water sectors.

John, Dewar. 6 International Projects—Sector Focus. Oxford University Press, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/law/9780198715559.003.0007.

Abstract:
This chapter describes a number of international projects in various areas: oil and gas; mining projects; conventional power; renewable energy; nuclear power projects; and the infrastructure of public and private partnerships. Oil and gas projects span a broad range of activities from upstream ‘exploration and production’ projects to downstream LNG and petrochemicals projects. The second part of the chapter begins with a brief overview of the current American, UK, French, Japanese, Korean, and Saudi Arabian power markets focusing on current electricity generation mix policies in these markets and the current and future place of conventional power therein. The text then looks at renewable energy projects. These share many of the characteristics of conventional power projects. However, there are certain crucial differences which will impact upon the contractual structure and risk allocation employed in the development of these projects. Nuclear power projects are perhaps the most challenging power/infrastructure projects to develop and finance. The chapter finally provides a discussion of the applicability of project finance principles and disciplines to a unique and challenging segment of the power/infrastructure sector.
