Full textBackground: Burnout is a pathological condition that happens when the worker exceeds his capacity to deal with work stress. Health professionals on the oncology area are prone to suffer from burnout since their routine includes ethical dilemmas, pain control and suffering of the cancer patient and his family, diagnosis of terminal illnesses, information about bad news and death. Methodology: The present systematic literature review aims to answer the research question “how does burnout affect Portuguese oncology professionals?” with information from 13 scientific articles from the “EBSCO Discovery Service” and “PubMed” databases. Results: From the content analysis of the selected articles, it is not possible to strictly circumscribe the prevalence of burnout in Portuguese oncology professionals due to the scarcity of information and divergence of data. In the sesame articles, only eminently the factors influencing the emergence of personal burnout are highlighted. As for the treatment of burnout in these professionals, only complementary medicine techniques (mindfulness, reiki and acupuncture) were addressed. Conclusion: Although burnout in Portuguese oncology professionals is relevant to the quality of healthcare provided in Portugal, the scientific information identified in this RSL about the pathology is scarce.

Participaram no estudo 112 enfermeiros (79 do IPO e 33 do HSM).
Emotional intelligence and job engagement are constructs that have been mainly studied in the context of psychology. However, recent investigations of these constructs in nursing has promoted the understanding of the role of emotions in human interaction of care in the context of physical health. Nurses who hold positions in oncology live moments of high emotional intensity, so as to be well managed (ie, while ensuring the welfare of professional and quality of care), imply the development of emotional intelligence competencies. Conversely, regular exposure to emotional stress situations impacts regarding the individual's ability to work and engagement job. The study is based on a quantitative, observational and cross-sectional approach, in which a factor analysis of the data was taken. The sample is non-probabilistic nature (intentional), comprises 112 nurses serving in Santa Maria Hospital and the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Lisbon. In the case in the study population, oncology nurses in the context in which it was intended to measure your emotional intelligence in combination with job engagement. All dimensions of emotional intelligence and its global feature values that are above the mean of the average value possible for the scales. The results show that there is significant correlation between emotional intelligence and job engagement. It was found out that nurses who have higher levels of emotional intelligence are more engaged.

Full textProject derives from the Latin projectu and refers to the transformation of an idea into a concrete act, involving a reflection and a motivation of the individual. It presupposes the construction of a path, the expression of a desire to carry out an action, through planning, and where necessary must be reformulated to implement the change in mind. The whole project has a fundamental or starting question that motivates and leads the new knowledge in the search of answers to the identified problem / needs. The growing concern with the improvement of quality and efficiency in the health system in Portugal has given greater importance to the analysis of the organizational culture, since technological innovation as well as its investment has become one of the biggest challenges to the expenses in the last century in an area as important as oncology. This permanent analysis of the organizational culture change strategy for a new VBHC strategy aims to provide information of relevance to the decision making about the alternatives that best answer the management needs and changes of the internal philosophy of a health organization. In the present paper, we sought to fill gaps with regard to the information required to comparatively evaluate the impact of introducing a VBHC methodology that has a significant impact on organizational culture, its impact on the quality of life of relevant patients, as well as the effective results of leadership and group culture. The decision was based on the objective of the real analysis of the effectiveness of the implementation of VBHC strategies on the organizational culture, in a private oncology group, based on the multiple tools of measurement of strategies change in organizational culture at different times (2017 and 2018). The analyzes demonstrated a high degree of sensitivity for the measurement of the multiple variables that characterize the organizational culture and group leadership in the various stages of implementation of the VBHC strategy. The justification described in the pertinence of the accomplishment of this case study served as motivation for the conduct of the same and point of departure for other research studies that need to analyze the gap in the literature of the initial model created by Prof Michael Porter.
